Abscess after root canal causes

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess after root canal causes

Avatar m tn Hello, There are various causes of dental abscess after root canal. Improperly done root canal, cracked or perforated root, reinfection, faulty crown etc are few of them. An improperly done root canal is the commonest cause of abscess after root canal. It may happen that the canals may be very curved or the filling may extend up to the tip and may fall short.
Avatar f tn Hello, It is common to have mild pain after a root canal procedure. But persistent pain after root canal can be an indication of complications. Few common causes are irritation of periodontal tissues, formation of periapical abscess, failed root canal or formation of a sterile abscess. Improper cleaning of root canal, infected tissue left inside the tooth, improper filling and sealing of root canal are few possibilities. If the pain is severe visit your dentist and get examined.
Avatar m tn So now I'm wondering if I shouldn't see an endodontic specialist that I've had in the past, just in case he's not able to find the root. Also, one more question, has anyone had a filling replace after a root canal? Why do I need a crown? I'm stressing over this..don't want to spend the time or money on it right now, but if I have no choice, I will. Should I have a consult w/an endodontic specialist or another dentist?
Avatar f tn Hi I had a root canal retreatment tooth # 3 last Thur/Mon + abscess pus was draining Thur. pressure in my face continues to increase. Monday changed antibiotics to Keflex 500 QID finished root canal. Pain continued to worsen unable to bite down or touch tooth or gums so I called Endodontist today sent me to oral surgeon for I & D. Had the I & D not much pus came out, he talked about trying to get through the bone not sure if he was successful or not.
Avatar m tn A tooth becoming loose after a root canal is not normal, and indicates a failure to diagnose or treat correctly. Three possible causes: 1) Major infection prior to the root canal around the tooth that ate away all the supporting bone. If this is the case, a root canal should never have been done. 2) Does it feel like you hit that tooth first or harder when you bite down or slide your teeth together right or left?
Avatar n tn While I had the temporary crown, everything seemed fine - it was as if nothing happened. But after receiving the permanent crown, I began having sensitivity to hot and cold. It really wasn't that bad, so I didn't think much of it. But about 2 weeks after getting the permanent crown, my gum (cheek side) started to hurt (slight throbbing) and became a little inflamed and pulled back. When I massaged the gum with my finger, I got a really foul taste from the gum. So I went to the dentist.
Avatar f tn She tried to make me feel it's my fault for not wearing my nightguard. However, she is the one who told me to stop wearing the nightguard, after my last root canal. BTW, even room temperature water now causes a very bad pain in the inflamed area under my crown. I had to beg her for penicillin because I am absolutely sure I have an infection. She claimed to have not seen anything. She does this a lot. I don't know what to think.
Avatar f tn I am terrified of the dentist and after reading WAY too much about 'upper front tooth abscesses' I just want to know exactly what to expect. Will they do a root canal on my first appointment, after the drainage? Is it incredibley painful during and after? And how often are teeth removed? I don't have any rotten teeth or fillings and after wearing a brace and looking after my teeth really well I am so upset!
Avatar n tn After that I had biting pain in one area. Tried new crown etc. Finally had root canal, last january, after root canal had biting pain on all areas of tooth and can even feel something when touching sides and top of tooth. Last molar in back on bottom. I do have tmj, I can feel a high point in that area when I have my mouth closed. Dentist, endo and oral surgeon say they see no high spots, so I guess I must be crazy, it's only my mouth!
Avatar m tn Hi, Well, I was at two dentists today. I finally think I need a root canal. So I may be rid of the tooth/gum pain soon. So when they looked at your eyes they didn't see any cataracts? Sometimes you can get them earlier if you are in the sun and don't wear sunglasses or just genetics. My sister in law just got both eyes done early. Being cold like that sounds like your thyroid is off. I am like that too always cold and tired.
Avatar f tn And then I gave her root canal treatment.During that treatment, she had no pain and no swelling. But 3days after obturating that tooth, she suffered swelling and slightly pain,I want to know what cause it is. I requested my senior dentist about that case. He precribed Lincomycin and Metronidazole 200mg for 10 days.
Avatar n tn Hence it could be Trigeminal neuralgia, abscess in tooth, exposed root canal, internal ear infection, maxillary sinusitis, TMJ, migraine, herpes (recurrent) without rash or fibromyalgia localized to face. Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
660300 tn?1224793961 I have a permanent case of both (at the same time!) after a dentist used a root canal filling material that contains FORMALDEHYDE, lead and mercury. Since they weren't supposed to be using this stuff, they decided to tell me that it was likely from the novacaine injection. That is a common ploy for these dentists to divert the attention away from what they used because they know it is a malpractice suit in the making.
Avatar n tn Sharp pain in the side of face could be due to injury to a nerve or pinched nerve, an infection or a trauma. Hence it could be Trigeminal neuralgia, abscess in tooth, exposed root canal, internal ear infection, maxillary sinusitis, TMJ, migraine, herpes (recurrent) without rash or fibromyalgia localized to face. These other possibilities too should be looked into. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar n tn I had to have a root canal several years ago and about a week afterwards I started experiencing pain. I think the dentist thought I just wanted pills or something. He gave me some vicodin and said it was probably because my tooth was too high and just causing pressure on root. The pain continued to increase and I insisted that something wasn't right. They did an x-ray of the tooth and discovered that a piece of the root was still inside and sent me to a periodontist to have it repaired.
Avatar f tn If the root exposure causes injury and death of the inner living pulp tissue, a root canal is essential. A severe tooth abscess if left untreated may become large enough to perforate bone and extend into soft tissue eventually becoming osteomyelitis and cellulitis respectively. This may follow path of least resistance spreading internally and externally.
Avatar f tn I been having sex all week frm the 20th of April to last night hoping we will get pregnant again . We lost our bby on the 2nd of March & hoping we conceive . I need to know when i should take a pregnancy test ? & also should i still go through with dental actions ie root canal and cavities before im sure ?
6780421 tn?1384733927 I finally got into see a perodontist and I definitely need a root canal. He said that this is actually common to get vertigo symptoms. The infection is severe so I am on penicillin for a couple of days then I get my root canal!! Again I have no pain just feel slight pressure on tooth and the gum isn't as sore anymore. So happy that this will be over in a couple days!!
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. There can be numbness after a root canal. The possible causes are using too much filling material can penetrate the main sensory nerve and chemically burning it. In case of underfilling the tooth, bacteria can grow, and the resulting inflammation or abscess can put pressure on the nerve which can further cause pain, numbness, or tingling.
Avatar n tn I know that the tooth extraction only cost $94.00....He said the root canal will cost $1,000.00....Also this is a small town, and the businesses help each other out through referrals....but what about the patients...I don't know if I am being taken advantage of for money, or really being helped...also, should I just go to another dentist and just get the tooth pulled and live my life not worrying about a life threatening abcess....I don't know what to do, very concerned....
Avatar m tn Hi! Possibility of an exposed root canal should be looked into. This can cause excruciating pain after the molars are removed and the socket has exposed nerve endings. Arthritis of upper jaw, temperomandibular joint disorders, and abscess in the tooth socket are other possibilities. Please discuss these possibilities with your father’s dentist. If any of these causes are identified, then they can be treated. Otherwise only your neurosurgeon can explain how risky is the surgery. Take care!
Avatar m tn Tooth decay if left untreated can result in tooth abscess. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications. You may need antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs if there is pain associated with it. Amoxicillin is drug of choice.Metrogyl can be used as an alternative drug. Discuss your concerns with your dentist. Do write to me again. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn Hi in around April last year my son age 11 years became very ill with an abscess that we could not see until xray (so ill they thought he has swine flu) , approx 1 month before this he started complaining of a `fuzzy`head, now after at least 10 courses of antibiotics, 1 failed root canal-they drilled to release pressure and no fluid came out so did a temporary filling in it- now we are waiting to have the tooth out under a general as he has a needle phobia.
Avatar m tn The teeth were chipped, and the dentist performed a root canal on both- but did not cap them... ??? Anyway, about 5yrs or so later (during the fall season) I had a HUGE infection of some kind that began as only pressure above the left tooth. Over the next few days it grew and grew- eventually becoming this enormous swelling beneath the left side of my nose, face, and also swelled up my entire top lip/// I looked like the elephant man. Upon going to the doctor- he wasn't sure what it was.
Avatar n tn Dentist recommended NTI and got that. I still have pain. X-Ray show no abscess or infection and root seem to be fine. Per Dentist, it is my bite and has to be corrected (going to get braces some day to have that issue corrected) but in the mean time don't know what exactly is the source of this pain? Could it be some kind of nerve or bone damage?
Avatar f tn About two weeks before the procedure when my heart was doing that atrial fib dance and knocking my heart rate up into the 300's i unfortunately had to have my last root canal. Talk about scared!! I almost asked them to call my heart doc to be on stand by i was so worried...but no worries...i had it done w. the anesthesia and was absolutely fine. I know everyone is different but i think the incident rate from what i understand is incredibly low .....
Avatar f tn Well I know it's not that when I found out about the Hep C I was tested for every thing known to man and again before treatment because I was flipped out! I had a crown and a root canal 2 weeks prior to treatment and its about the same tooth and I thought it was from the med's I guess it's time to go to the dentist and make sure I had time to heal and didn't get a infection hope not on top of this tx!
16361457 tn?1449656421 I also recently had tooth infection (abscess) which was treated with antibiotics but I need a root canal as well. My cardiologist said the heart symptoms could also be caused by this infection. Did she mean sepsis?? Because it certainly feels like something very bad is happening in my body.
Avatar f tn I had the headaches as the original symptom and the tooth abscess was found on the CAT scan. It was a very old root canal that had the abscess. So, could this possibly be the tooth? Still? Maybe the infection isn't cleared up? I was on penicillin and then a Z pac after the tooth was extracted! This is totally consuming my life. I feel like doing nothing and all I do is worry that this is a brain tumor or something more serious.
Avatar f tn i go to the dentist i brush, floss, no bad breath, my gums dont bleed either but for these past few years after having that root canal i been in the hospital more than 30 times for an infection the doctors could not find.
