Avatar m tn Yes i have they give me tablets then said come back Monday to have it out, but all the swelling as now spread to my neck so a bit worries
Avatar m tn But if I was willing to pay $1800.00 he would go in from up top through the gum and do a upper root canal on the same tooth. I did decide to go forward do the upper root canal much to Dr. surprise when he open up the top root the infection stunk up his whole office he cleaned it out and filled it and I have not had any problems for 2 1/2 years. Now I am on vacation am on a immune suppressor and all of sudden I get a massive tooth ache the same bicuspid. Went ER got antibiotics and painkiller.
Avatar m tn It could be a dental infection/abscess and in that case, it is highly advised to see what the problem is and to resolve it. Antibiotics most likely will not fix the problem. A root canal or extraction may be needed.
Avatar m tn Hi I just had a second root canal and two days after I start getting a bubble on my gum above my tooth. A little history, the first root canal was done over a decade ago and last month I had terrible pain and the appearance of the abscess on my gum just above the problem tooth. I went on antibiotics first and then after popping the abscess on several occasions only to have the abscess come back. I know it isn't recommended. The pain went away but the abscess remained.
Avatar n tn He said what the old dentist did to these teeth shouldn't even be called root canal. He left so many canals untreated and drilled through where there were nerve. I'm gonna try to check with a lawyer if I have a case... has anyone been in a similar situation?
Avatar n tn If there is a tooth root abscess it is very wise to have the affected tooth extracted. Although the tooth itself may appear to be healthy the root is already compromised. Once you treat the current Abscess with antibiotic's another abscess will probably return unless a curative treatment, such as a root canal is performed. Root canal's are rarely performed in pets since the procedure is more complex than an extraction, and therefore much more costly.
Avatar f tn I've had a tooth abscess since the beginning of this year sometime. I went to the ER because my jaw had become so swollen that it was completely ridiculous. They gave me penicillin which I took (28 pills, 3 times a day with food). When I finished that bottle I realized that there was still a sort of blister on my gum even though it was much smaller than it used to be.
Avatar f tn I am a 24 yr old female and recently had a tooth abscess that I took care of with 2 different antibiotics (Clyndmiacin and cephelexin). I went to the ER and got the abscess lanced to relieve some of the pressure. I went to my dentist and received a partial root canal. I am feeling no pain in my mouth and the swelling is all gone. Now I'm not sure if the infection is in my heart.
Avatar n tn My crowned tooth #19, which had a previous root canal, unknown number of years ago, developed an absess at the bottom of the roots. During my 2nd visit, while Endo doc was removing the previous old post to gain access to the abscess, he told me he caused a small perforation in the root. After an hour and a half, he finished the treatment...and filled the tooth. I'm on Penicillin. Doc told me to expect some discomfort and called last night to check on me. Good Doc. And, complications happen!
Avatar m tn This dentist noted that there was a little bit of inflammation visible on the x-ray, but that didn't explain how severe the pain was and the fact that the tooth behind was very sore as well. This dentist recommended root canal or extraction. This pain subsided after about 3 weeks, however the tooth still didn't feel quite right (not sure how to explain the feeling, significantly less pain though).
Avatar n tn I had a root canal about 1 month ago on #14, and still have a sense of pressure above that tooth. There's some pain if I bite or tap just right, but no evident swelling or redness in the gum area. The pain seems to be a dull burning ache that radiates to my inner ear and even behind the ear into the neck area. I haven't done the crown prep yet because I'm waiting for it to be pain free before putting a $700 crown on it.
Avatar n tn If you are going to place a crown on this tooth and the old root canal has been exposed to the bacteria in your mouth(cotton ball had nothing to do with it) then it would behoove you to make sure the rct is in good order. I would suggest you have the rct retreated and the crown placed.
Avatar n tn I have posted a few times on this site in the last year. I have had 3 teeth extracted now due to failed root canal treatments. I am currently having another one fail on me and the tooth was re-done on Thursday and my dentist has left the tooth open without a dressing to allow it to drain (as there was discharge coming out of it)in a last attempt to save the tooth. The x-ray showed no problem but obviously there is one. The tooth is a lower pre-molar.
Avatar f tn It was on a tooth than previously had a root canal performed on it. I was put on antibiotics, but the abscess moved into my cheek and my face became huge. My Endo. was unable to drain the abscess because of where it was located (under my cheek muscle), but went ahead and did the re-do root canal anyway after I was on antibiotics for four days. Presently, he cleaned out the old roots that were missed, but no pus or other type of discharge was cleaned out (I watched the whole thing).

Avatar m tn Hi. I am 20 years old. I had a root canal job done a couple of years ago, but it was unfinished due to lack of money. I have been reading online that it can lead to brain abscess and things of that nature. I have been feeling some symptoms lately. Such as tingling around my jaw, and a bit of a tinglnig-fuzzy feeling around the back of my head. I don't have any pain or anything like that. I wanted to know if these symptoms were brain abscess symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have had a vague on again/off again pain in that tooth since the root canal. It was a complex R.C.; it had needed to be done for 3 yrs, but it took me that long to find a dentist who would do it, since the problem never showed on xray...the canals had become ***? I forget the word. Anyway, the last 2 weeks, I've noticed an increased discomfort while chewing, also foul taste, then 2 days ago, blood while brushing...
Avatar n tn My question is, how does one detect that an old root canal needs to be redone? What are the symptoms and who will diagnose it? A dentist or must it be an endodontist? Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn We were taking pano on each other and I noticed that I had a radiolucent area around the apex of tooth #19. This tooth had root canal done 3 years ago and I got a nice crown on it too. I visited my dentist regurlaly. I had no pain or discomfort prior to the pano that we took on Nov 18. Since then, I visited my dentist and he told me it is an abscess. I started the Amoxicillin on monday, I also noticed that I had a throbbing pain since last sunday.Well...
Avatar n tn My dentist did a pain test and numbed just the never of that tooth, and sure enough I needed a root canal, now I had to fork out $900 for the root canal procedure. After the root canal was preformed I had the usual pain, but I took my antibiotic and pain meds and I was able to deal with it. I was schedule to come back in two weeks for the final filling and fitting of my permanent crown. A few days before my apt, my temporary crown came off while I was eating.
Avatar n tn I had a root canal un my upper back tooth on Friday. I woke up Saturday with a facial droop, a kanka sore and swelling from my eye to my jaw bone. I knew I had an abscess when they started. My face hurts to the touch and the kanka hurts as well. I look like a chipmunk. I am on antibiotics. When can I expect the swelling to go down? When will it stop hurting? Does anyone know why this happened. It was a repair of an old root canal done 25 years ago.
Avatar f tn Last Wednesday I went to my Endodontist for a root canal re-treatment on my #3 molar. Prior to this procedure, I was aware that I had an infection (abscess) at one of the tooth's roots. (The original root canal done about 9 years ago.) They removed the existing crown because it was a bad crown and I was planning to get a new crown anyway. They searched for any missed canals but did not find any.
Avatar n tn The first one done by an endodontist was a disaster, my mouth blew up like a bowling bowl and he didn't care to see me afterward, he said there was nothing he could do if there was an abscess on my gum. Then I needed another root canal so I went to a different endo, this was about 4 months ago. Again after it was done I had pain and called him 2 weeks later and he said it was normal and it was a bad infection and would take awhile.
Avatar f tn The first root canal i had - the tooth was opened to begin the root canal whilst the tooth still had a raging infection - it was absolute agony - i spent the next 6 months going to and from the dentist trying to clear the infection - they kept putting temporary fillings on and having to take them off as the pain was unbearable and the infection had to drain - it took a total of 7 months to complete the rc, with at least 1 if not 2 trips a week to the dentist.
Avatar m tn i have a blinding headache (sharp 'stabby' feeling) my face is very swollen on one side, and experiencing ear ache as well as really acute pain in the jaw directly above the root canal tooth. (repeated dosing with high level pain killers offering no relief) I know I will not be sleeping at all tonight.. I know I should have gone to the dentist (insert crazy, busy work, wife hit by car this week while walking and sick kids) well before i got to this point..
Avatar n tn So a few years ago tooth #10 had to have a root canal (the one between the front tooth and the canine) and after i had it done, an abscess formed on the gum above the tooth and I had to go back in (don't know if they redid the root canal; do they do that to fix an abscess?) in any case, it hurt a lot for a long time after the root canal, but eventually it calmed down. A few months ago, the tooth started hurting again.
Avatar n tn I would, due to no insurance and little money coming in at this time, to watch and wait, then and follow up with an inspection of the tooth again in six months. It is my understanding that a root canal too, has its own list of risks and side effects. Is there any "Best Practice" of monitoring such a tooth, if a patient is currently unable to afford a procedure? Thanks for any information you may be able to provide.
Avatar n tn 2) Is it possible the tooth is cracked? 3) Is it more likely the root canal was not successful? The Endodontic stated today he had no way of knowing if the tooth was cracked, if the root canal was the cause, if the shortened post was the cause (which his one X-ray didn't reveal)... etc.
