Abscess tooth old root canal

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth old root canal

abscess

Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar f tn It was on a tooth than previously had a root canal performed on it. I was put on antibiotics, but the abscess moved into my cheek and my face became huge. My Endo. was unable to drain the abscess because of where it was located (under my cheek muscle), but went ahead and did the re-do root canal anyway after I was on antibiotics for four days. Presently, he cleaned out the old roots that were missed, but no pus or other type of discharge was cleaned out (I watched the whole thing).
Avatar n tn If there's an abscess, root canal treatment should resolve the problem. If not, a re-treatment of the root canal is possible or an apicoectomy in which they remove the tip of the infected root along with the infection in that area. Referral to a specialist for the procedure may be necessary.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am 20 years old. I had a root canal job done a couple of years ago, but it was unfinished due to lack of money. I have been reading online that it can lead to brain abscess and things of that nature. I have been feeling some symptoms lately. Such as tingling around my jaw, and a bit of a tinglnig-fuzzy feeling around the back of my head. I don't have any pain or anything like that. I wanted to know if these symptoms were brain abscess symptoms.

Avatar f tn my dentist says he cant check the root canal work done previously until the infection clears., i am so worried about loosing my tooth. when will the anti botics start to work. i look forward to hearing from you, many thanks.
Avatar f tn That did not help and was switched to amoxicillin, followed by a root canal. The root canal was a week ago but the lump from the abscess is still on my gum. Is this normal? I was not put on antibiotics after the root canal but I took the last 2 amox. From the prescrip I had been given the week before.
Avatar n tn If there is a tooth root abscess it is very wise to have the affected tooth extracted. Although the tooth itself may appear to be healthy the root is already compromised. Once you treat the current Abscess with antibiotic's another abscess will probably return unless a curative treatment, such as a root canal is performed. Root canal's are rarely performed in pets since the procedure is more complex than an extraction, and therefore much more costly.
Avatar f tn I went to the dentist last sunday with an abscess tooth which is going to have to be a root canal started taking amoxicillin mon its now friday and still swollen no sign of abscess subsiding quite painful still planning to go to doctor or dentist tomorrow are there any symptoms i shoud be worried about and maybe go to emergency
1307768 tn?1273363703 You may just be experiencing some post-operative pain from the root canal procedure. Did you have an abscess or anything prior to the root canal? I would call your doctor to let them know but I think over the counter pain medication along with some time should resolve the problem. They might want to put you on antibiotics just in case.
Avatar m tn Yes i have they give me tablets then said come back Monday to have it out, but all the swelling as now spread to my neck so a bit worries
Avatar n tn It is best to get an appropriate evaluation and treatment done. If there was a root canal done in the above tooth? In few cases root canals can fail due to branching and convolutions of the tooth roots. See your dentist at the earliest. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn If the source of abscess is associated with dental pulp, root canal treatment can help clear up infection. Further delay of treatment is detrimental.
Avatar n tn Either pull the tooth or save the tooth by getting a root canal.
Avatar m tn The nerve and pulp of the tooth are removed, and the interior is cleaned and sealed during a root canal operation. Without treatment, the tissue around the tooth may get infected, resulting in an abscess.
Avatar n tn So a few years ago tooth #10 had to have a root canal (the one between the front tooth and the canine) and after i had it done, an abscess formed on the gum above the tooth and I had to go back in (don't know if they redid the root canal; do they do that to fix an abscess?) in any case, it hurt a lot for a long time after the root canal, but eventually it calmed down. A few months ago, the tooth started hurting again.
Avatar n tn I was told by my dentist that I have an abcess above a tooth that I have already had a root canal done on 18years ago and that I have to see an endodontics for treatment. First I would like to know if they are going to do another root canal or if they're going to perform surgery through my gum to remove this ball of infection? And can only an Endodonitcs fix this problem or can a oral surgeon do this as well? If they go through my gum this would be surgry right?
Avatar f tn An Endodontics can do the root canal without removing the crown, they just drill through the crown, do the root canal and seal entry of the crown. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn My other front tooth had a root canal before the crowns were done. 3 years or so ago. Had an abscess in there from a failed pulp cap. I let it go, only found the abscess on a dental xray, had no symptoms. Now out of the blue this tooth hurts a little when you tap on it. No other pain other than that. Tooth has a post. Both teeth showed clean on the x-rays taken 6-8 weeks ago. I am afraid that I may have fractured it due to my tooth grinding. I am going nuts over these two teeth.
Avatar m tn Well, it does have an abscess, a root canal should solve the problem as long as there's not a fracture in the tooth itself. They don't necessarily have to pull the tooth. You may not even need a root canal. Hopefully its something simple. I've had a patient who had swelling and discomfort and when I went to check it out, I found a popcorn shell stuck in the gums causing the problem.
Avatar f tn they only thing to get rid of the abscess is to take antibiotics to get rid of the infection and after baby is born they may have to do a root canal or pull tooth all together. mine had to be pulled out. but definitely get it checked out i was told by my dentist that it can get bad enough and get into your blood stream...
Avatar m tn 2 months ago i decided to have 2 new crowns for my front teeth for cosmetic reasons (#8 already post crown with RCT 15 years back). I am 39 years old. Following the crown procedure (2 weeks after) i experienced intermittent pain in the previously healthy tooth (#9) and had to embark on 3 weeks of treatment / draining etc. due to abscess formation. The tooth was left 'open' for 2 weeks during this time to to the infection which eventually subsided.
Avatar f tn The next day after i had the crown i felt an throbing pain on the crowned tooth. I went to the doctor and he advised me of doing root canal. 2 days later he cleaned my canal and injected antibiotics in my canals. My question is that 1) In how many days abscess is going to heal? 2) why he didnt prescirbed me any antibiotics? 3) if the infection is healed can i put crown without doing root canal?
Avatar f tn So far, my dentist said I may have to get the root canal redone. When I asked him if this would save the tooth, he said not necessarily. So, if I have the tooth extracted, what can be done to fill the void? He doesn't think an implant is feasible. Just trying to find out what other options I might have before I spend thousands on a tooth that may not be worth saving. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn You may want to have the endodontist (root canal specialist) take a look at the tooth and see if it needs a root canal. Sometimes excess cement can cause tooth pain in the area as well. Sometimes if the cavity is deep, it can take some time before the teeth develop symptoms and its unpredictable when that'll happen. Another issue may be pulpal degeneration, in which the nerve will begin to die and develop problems due to its long history of fillings, cavities, crowns, etc.
Avatar f tn If there is no pain then I think it may not be the failure. Checkout some more details about root canal at root canal Rockville MD.
Avatar m tn I was told I need a root canal and given antibiotics. After the infection cleared up and stopped hurting I forgot about it, with the intention of eventually going back and getting it taken care of. Well now I have a painless lump on the outside gum right below that tooth. It seems to have appeared over night. I thought I felt food in there and noticed it. It feels like a blister but doesn't hurt at all. Is this something I can wait a few days and see if it goes away, I just discovered it.
Avatar n tn d prefer the root canal filling be removed and the procedure redone by a specialist rather than draining the infection by making an incision. there is no harm in seeing a root canal specialist for an opinion on the quality of the root canal procedure if your symptoms persist or if you are not satisfied.. go to someone your dentist does not refer to. if the antibiotic is effective you should start to see improvement in 24-48 hrs.
Avatar n tn I had the first part of a root canal done (on the last tooth on the upper left side of my mouth) 2wks ago&after that procedure there was almost no pain.I went back for the 2nd part of the root canal 10 days later&the dentist said the tooth was still infected&was bleeding during the procedure.I have been on really strong antibiotics (Clindamycin 500mg 3x/day;Clarithromycin 500 mg 2x/day;Amoxicillin 500mg 2x/day)for 2wks now.I am also taking 600mg of Ibuprofen 2x/day for 2 wks.
