Not quite in the same manner. Abilify does have mood stabilization effects. An SSRI generally is of concern for someone with bipolar and can easily worsen mania. Abilify like all antipsychotics can treat it. Abilify and Geodon are activating, that is they will make a person more likely to be awake instead of being sedating. I know when I was on Geodon and Abilify they kept me up practically the whole night but they didn't make me manic.
Nobody knows -- people react differently. A weight gainer for some isn't for others. I do question why you're adding a drug if the wellbutrin is working well -- they tend to work better the longer you take them. Buspar usually doesn't work that well, but my guess is, wellbutrin is the most stimulating anitdepressant out there short of taking speed, and you're posting on the anxiety forum so I'm guessing you suffer from anxiety.
Doctors can prescribe Abilify as an 'enhancer' to an SSRI if it is not having the full desired effect. Ativan is a benzo that is usually prescribed short term on an as needed basis. Have you been on other SSRIs in the past?
Weight gain is a known common side-effect of Abilify. I have attended inservices with Abilify marketers where weight management techniques (diet and exercise) were emphasized. As suggested, speak with your doctor about it. If it becomes a problem, maybe a weight-neutral antidepressant (Wellbutrin, for example) would be equally effective. However, it's important to continue to take the meds as prescribed while discussing your concerns with your MD.
m just saying that I do know that Gabapentin can be combined with other anti-sezier meds like Abilify. Now, logic would say that a simple SSRI like Zoloft would not cause any issues, but don't take that as fact.
If your seriuosly in doubt about that three med combo, you realy should ask your Psychiatrist just to be sure.
I just started Pristiq and Im also on ativan and abilify............wondering if anyone else has taken these meds together.I felt great after taking the pill last night now today im kinda scared and spacey feeling...any thoughts?
Abilify can be used to augment antidepressants such as Lexapro.
I use Lamictal to augment my Pristiq and it works much better than just the Antidepressant alone.
Combining SSRI's or SNRI's with mood stabilizing drugs such as Abilify or Lamictal can often help a lot. Although they do take a good few weeks to kick in.
In the past I have taken just about every drug you mentioned above, but I am supprised that your doctor has never tried you on an SNRI such as Effexor XR or Pristiq.
Went to docs with unrelated problems but in talking my anxiety was evident and she asked about depression and I told her I wasn't suicidal and no desire to hurt myself or anyone else just was having a difficult time seeing the good in anything. Everyday tasks seemed very hard to do. Zero motivation although i do function well enough to get thru my days. i have never taken antidepressants before I am 33 yo male. She recommended I try meds.
Are you seeing a psychiatrist or a regular doc? I'm neither a pharmacist or a psychopharmacologist, but Buspar is supposedly a relaxant although it has never been shown to work well in clinical trials. Most often these days, and this has been a drug that for many many years has been in search of a use that it proves to work for, it is used as an adjunct to an antidepressant when anxiety persists.
I have been on Zoloft 150mg for about a week and feel more agitated, nervous, anxiety and still depressed so my psychiatrist just added Abilify (5mg) and Remeron along with a thyroid RX to my Zoloft 150mg. I feel this is way too much as I was hoping to change to a different SSRI instead but he didn't feel that would help. I've been taking Ativan .
psychiatric meds take a toll on weight gain i gained 66 lbs. from abilify in that same amount of time i take geodon now.
But the fog has caused me severe agitation and i was raging all the time.They said in the hospital that my raging was part of bipolar ii disorder. they put me on abilify with neurontin and prozac. The depression lifted and I had more energy than ever, (although mentally i was still in a fog). That lasted about a month and I got of the abilify cause of bad restlessness in my legs.It felt so good to not be depressed and then it came back.
I take Abilify & Zoloft, the abilify is a great, I mean great drug.
I've only been on Zoloft 3 months & it is working so far, so good.
As far as a 9 yr. old? Not sure?

I'm only 19 with ADHD, depression/anxiety issues. I had been on Effexor XR 75 mg for 6 years and Paxil 20 mg for 4 years. My liver enzymes (ALT 120) were elevated and both psychiatrist and primary doctor agreed to discontinue these drugs. I was tapered off each drug one at a time over a 6 week period plus my Straterra 60mg for ADHD. It has now been 3 weeks since no further meds. t affected our marriage and I think I finally found a medication that is working for me. I just started Abilify, and I am only on 10 mg right now, but I see my doctor again Wednesday and I hope she increases my dose. But, we have noticed a HUGE difference in my "bipolarness" since I started it. I also don't sleep well at all....when I am finally asleep, I have these terrible, horrible, frightening and very vivid dreams. So needless to say I don't sleep well at all.
