Abilify and tics

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify and tics

abilify

Avatar n tn tics also, but they went away and the motor tics remain and seemed to be increasing. He is taking Lamictal and Focalin XR and so far the psychiatrist thinks that it is not Tourette's. We are going to see a neurologist in a couple weeks. Is there any other help out there or something else that we could be doing. Lamictal is for his mood disorder and Focalin is for his ADHD. It you have any insight or answers, we would appreciate it.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar n tn I wonder if it is just the normal coming and going of tics. Once thing I have learned about the tics is to be patient as they will pass. I know that is hard.....I can hardly stand when he starts a new tic, but they have always stopped (or moved on to another tic). I think he is on way too many meds. Risperdal made my normally too skinny son overweight too. I can't say for sure, but I think the Intuniv might have been the one that gave my son more tics???
Avatar f tn He is taking vyvanse now but it is causing him to have hallucinations and very bad tics where he will jerk and shudder and make noises out of the blue and they are getting worse. What does your son take Tenex for? If you dont mind me asking.
Avatar f tn Sometimes, and this is if you want to stay on the meds, these kinds of meds affect magnesium absorption, and some find relief for the muscle aches and spasms and tics by supplementing with it. Take it with a meal apart from when you take your meds or before bedtime and see if it helps, but only assuming you're going to stay on these meds.
Avatar m tn That might be of concern as Cogentin should help and not worsen things (it is usually helpful on temporary movement disorders but can worsen permanent movement disorders but only a doctor would understand the specifics of this in full). They should do an evaluation for the potential of permanent movement disorders which generally they should do at reasonable intervals as they did with me (and other people I know).
Avatar n tn My son has PANDAS and tics and compulsions and ADHD. We have been dealing with his symptoms for five years. How do you find a Dr. who understand and can help you deal with this horrible disease? I don't know how to deal with these repetitive behaviors he gets after illness or being around strep. This fall he has been exposed to strep and he is now doing toe curling tics and finger cracking over and over. It is going on six weeks since they started.
Avatar m tn The medication was effecting his motor skills, his reaction time was very slow, like his reaction in the game was horrible, and he had alot of twitching and tics... He is now back on strattera and abilfy... He is doing great in school straight "A".. still hyper.... The only thing is that when on this medication don't know which one is it but it affect his personality..... He doesn't smile and always so serious.
Avatar m tn Blu: The link didn't post properly, but we're not allowed to post links in public forums. We have to PM for that (I didn't realize it either until someone told me--oops!) OP: What drugs were you on before? Were you on any atypical antipsychotics, like Seroquel or Abilify (which can be added to SSRI antidepressants)? The antipsychotics can cause tardive dyskinesia, which is a movement disorder that is sometimes permanent.
644988 tn?1236364548 initially said it might be but to wait and see. Finally at age six and attention issues and obsessions creeping in and tics going on pretty strong on and off for a year the neurologist called it tourettes and gave him meds called Abilify. It seemed to work well at first but wore off and we had to up it a couple times to 5 mg now. Then this fall the tics were worse and the anxiety and we added zoloft 12 mg. It doesn't seem to be working.
Avatar f tn I am usually a tired person overall, but after this episode of tics, I have been so very, very, exhausted and have been missing classes and sleeping much more. It's almost as if the tic episode wiped me out, I feel a marked difference in my energy level since this has happened.
Avatar n tn However, within the past year she has started displaying frequent motor tics and recently vocal tics. Her motor tics started with blinking/rolling her eyes. They have progressed to neck shrugs and hand twists. Lately, she makes a "un" gutteral sound. The vocal tics are occuring as often as 1-2 times a minute. Is there any connection between her early seizures and tics?
712802 tn?1274645485 What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.
Avatar f tn ve been reading about food allergies/intolerence to certain foods causing Tourettes tics...some claim the tics completely stopped after getting off dairy and/or gluten.
Avatar m tn I am on 90 mg of Cymbalta and just started 15 mg of Abilify for depression. My doctor has titrated me up on the Abilify gradually. My question is for anyone who take 15 mg of Abilify for depression. Have you experienced any side effects? When you're depressed and trying to get your medications right it just isn't fun. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I have tourrette's and to be honest, whenever I drink, my motor tics (I blink a lot and shake my head a bit) seem to bother me the lease. Even when I just have a few beers and have a little buzz going, I hardly notice them at all. I've even done some experimenting where before I start drinking, I'll notice myself needing to twitch quite often. Then I'll have like 2 beers, I'll find myself not feeling the urge to tic at all.
Avatar f tn I have only started the Abilify so far on day 3 … I was supposed to start together but I dropped the pristiq bottle and pills fell on floor now because of contamination ocd I can’t take them and insurance won’t pay for a refill yet so doctor says just take the Abilify for now , I’m noticing it is helping me to change my behavior versus the ssri just kinda helped me manage my existing behaviors but never had courage or motivation to change my behaviors so I’m hoping that’s where Abilify will come
Avatar f tn Hi I have been on 5 mg of abilify and also klonopin since jan..09.Recently i have been having severe dizziness.,y ear hurt so wen to dr put me on antibotic...Abilify has helped my depression so much but im wondering f it would start causing dizziness after being on it since jan 20 09...
Avatar m tn Hello, For the past 3+ weeks i've noticed in association with my frequent headaches (daily) i am getting a "tic" or twitch in the neck. It is quick and unnoticed by others (so far). The tic seems to mainly occur when i'm having or about to have a headache. I did go to the doctor regarding this (walk-in clinic) and she stated that there was a lot of strep going around and had to be the cause of my headaches with no explanation of my "tics".
1565420 tn?1304572548 Hello, I took abilify for five years, One thing is that when you take ablilify it is added with another medication usually, and i lost all of my hair while taking it but not because of they abilify, it was from the depicote or what ever-eles i took, but after i got off the depecote, my hair grew back my hair is growing now, but if you havent took it very long you may be having other side effects like the shaking, i will say that dose go away and you get very much better..
Avatar f tn I have two children with Tourestte's - one with Asperger's. My dad has Tourette's. I had Tourette's as a kid - the tics aren't the big deal - the underlying problems behind the tics are. They see doctors that specialize in Tourette's. My children's tics did not start until 5 or 6. My son's tics which involved hand licking and sniffing pretty much disappeared by 9. My daughter had throat clearing and also a hand lick.
Avatar n tn There is a connection with taking Abilify and acne .
Avatar f tn 5 years he has been involved with pot (it helps his tics) and then moved on to meth. He said he was very focused on the meth and it did not bother his tics. I am completely puzzeled how adderall could have bothered his tics and on meth did not????? He said he is sure his tics were not worse on Meth, he was around people while on the meth and they would have told him??
Avatar m tn other possibilities are chromosomal disorders like down syndrome, kleinfelter’s syndrome, etc. acquired causes of tics include drug induced tics, head trauma, stroke etc. Tests to rule out other conditions like EEG, hypothyroidism, MRI, urine drug screen for cocaine and stimulants. If a positive family history of liver disease, serum copper and ceruloplasmin levels can rule out Wilson’s disease. Consult a neurologist for a detailed evaluation and management. Take care.
