MrGreen is spot on, as usual. It is very common to have both at the same time. I sometimes think it's a bit of the "chicken or the egg" thing. Are we depressed because of the anxiety or are we anxious because we're depressed? And I do suppose one can have both as entirely seperate conditions. I personally had panic attacks years before I ever became depressed and I'm sure there are those out there who could say the exact opposite.
I think that abilify is meant to be taken with antidepressants and xanax isn't an antidepressant. I'd ask a doc about it.
I am not schizophrenic, Bi-Polar, or Autistic. I just suffer from Panic Attacks. My Doctor prescribed me Abilify as an enhancer for my Paxil/Xanax cocktail. Long story short, I was taking 2mg of abilify once a day. Recently My Insurance decided they were going to be the Doctor and my funding for the Abilify ran out. I am not going to pay $543.00 for meds can't afford it and think that price is ludicrous. So now I am in cold turkey wean from Abilify.
Okay, I had a terrible experience with Abilify in 2006. I was given the prescription as I left the hospital after having my youngest son and I took it for about 3 weeks or so. I was on the generic version (which is why I couldn't remember the name of it until I just recently received my records.)
The first thing was I became really jittery in a very physical way. Now, I am normally a fidgeter but this was really bad. I always had to be tapping my foot or my hand. Rocking quickly.
I went to the local ER again. And they put me on Zoloft and Abilify, as well as Vistiral for my panic attacks. So here's where I'm concerned, because I haven't felt this low in years. Am I going to be okay? With me feeling like this and the Abilify Side effects as scary as they are I just need some reassurance. I forgot how scary this was. I'm not really sleeping or eating. I've lost 20lbs in one week. Does anyone have any advice? Has anyone ever been through this?
For anyone out there who is trying to get off Abilify, it will be the scariest/worst experience of your life, but it DOES get better. It took 6 weeks for me to begin to stop having the delusional terrors and panic attacks, but I feel better. I'm writing to catalog what a dangerous drug this is and to give anyone who is trying to withdraw from it hope.
I was put on Paxil and that really saved me. It took my panic away completely. After a while, the panic attacks started again. At this time, I started talking to (my current girlfriend) who lived in Florida, and we talked about me moving down to Florida since my life at home was bad. Anxious and all, I finally made the move. I have been living in Florida for almost three years. Now today, I am 22, and my panic attacks are extreme. I can’t go to any store without having a panic attack.
You know I believe if the child is suffering, then they need medication to end the suffering. Social Anxiety is awful, I have it and it is miserable. I would go for the mood stabelizer over the klonipin since klonipin is only a bandage and not really treating the anxiety. Plus it is addicting and that's another issue you don't need to deal with. I would ask the doc if he could come off the Risperdal and go on a mood stabelizer rather than add it to the mix.
I'll try to keep this brief but here's my situation:
About 5 years ago, I was having occasional panic attacks, mostly triggered when I was traveling (plane, train or car). Then the panic was happening more often (at home, at work, etc.) and lasting longer/more severe. I saw a doctor, told I have panic disorder (I think I have Agoraphobia too, but I was not told that) and was prescribed Paxil, with Xanax as needed.
Hi, I am glad to have found this site. I have suffered panic attacks on and off throughout most of my life. Until three weeks ago, I have pretty much been able to deal with them and go without medication. It usually happens after a period of stress or loss in my life and I tend to have a delayed reaction to the stress and then it manifests itself in the form of panic attacks.....
When stopped suffered panic attack consecutive for 2 weeks, with sever sense of lonliness, and despair. I then saw a psychiatrist, who increased my zoloft dose to 100mg and changed brands. My heart stopped thudding two days ago, but still have sense of despair severe. no eating, severe diarrhea, can't get out of bed. and numerous small panic attacks during the day. I am so sorry to keep bugging you guys, I just need help. will this ever end? Is there a happy ending?
Background, about a year ago, my father-in-law who is 62 years old, suffered from severe panic attacks and depression that landed him in the phych ward twice. He would hyperventilate and tremble to the point that he could not function for hours at a time. Although he could stop the symptoms when his mind was not on the thing that we agreed was causing the panic attacks.
It has been a few weeks now and I fell into an even deeper depression, became suicidal and started having panic attacks. I saw my doctor again, she upped my Effexor to the highest dose and put me on xanax, I also started seeing a therapist because I am having extreme obsessive thoughts about my ex and his new gf, I have learned everything I could learn about her online, I stalk their FB and Linkin pages.
I take Methadone 80mg a day once in the morning, and have been prescribed to psychiatric medication for a long period of time. These consist of Abilify and at one time Zoloft I kept on having very strong panic attacks followed immediately by loss of breath like asthma but to the point of hyperventilating . This concerned me I discontinued Zoloft and kept taking abilify but still experience the same problem what do I do help!!!
