Walking dandruff mites in humans

Common Questions and Answers about Walking dandruff mites in humans

dandruff

Avatar n tn My daughter rescued a puppy and we believe it has walking dandruff...Me and my daughter are broken out in an itchy rash...Is there a natural treatment that will get rid of this on us?
Avatar n tn Have a vet do a skin scraping of the bald spots to make sure it's not mange. If it's mange, the mite that causes it will show up on the microscope slide and the appropriate treatment can be instituted. You want to have this done as soon as possible, since some types of mange can be transmitted to humans. Demodectic mange is caused by a mite found in the skin of all dogs. Sometimes the mites begin localized infestations and that's when hair loss results.
Avatar n tn Bird mites have to be treated with a bug bomb and the bird or rodent nest removed. Pet mites(or walking dandruff) look like tiny white dandruff that moves. This is treated with a strong flea/mite shampoo weekly for 4 weeks plus the carpet/upholstery must be treated with a flea carpet spray weekly for 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn It's advantage multi, he was thinking maybe it was walking dandruff but I went back to the vets again yesterday and we did a skin scraping and it's not mites or walking dandruff. Advantage multi kill many mites so were playing safe. We now have moved on thinking its a fungal infection, it's only making one pup really lose hair the other two have the itch but aren't losing near as much hair.
Avatar m tn The fact that they are outside would support it being even more difficult to have these mites on a person. In my opinion, medical doctors should be more careful when concluding that these mites are from the cats without any solid proof because some people may interpret that as needing to get rid of their pets..ok, off of my soapbox...
784128 tn?1236278645 Thanks 4 answering my question both my cats sleep with me and my daugther so now i wont worry my cats prince and patches love to sleep close to our face i still wanted to be able to give them the attention they love your answer was helpful

Avatar m tn My 7 yr old female cat has developed what appears to be dandruff thick skin flakes that slough off. Is this a cat's allergy or a dietary problem?
Avatar n tn My pets have this as well as my friend, who mowed my yard at my old place, so we moved in together to try to zap these mites. We live in lufkin tx, where are you from?
Avatar n tn Treat the area with an approved insecticide to ensure that there will be no future infestation. Bird mites will feed on humans but do not live for long as they cannot complete their life cycle on humans. Infestations are generally self-limiting especially if birds and nesting have been eradicated. Bites from bird mites can cause severe irritation, itching, swelling and raised reddish spots on the skin. An anti-itch cream or lotion may help reduce irritation. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn In general, the scabies mites that infect humans are not transmitted to animals. If your dog had gotten scabies from you, I suspect that a flea shampoo should take care of things.
1380814 tn?1285965586 Canine or feline scabies mites can bite humans and cause itchy red bumps, but they cannot reproduce on our skin, and so the mites usually die a couple of weeks after exposure, unless the affected pets continue to expose their owners. Humans can also have their own species of scabies, so if you have concerns about a skin condition, please consult your medical doctor or dermatologist. Below is more info about scabies. Transmission or Cause: Canine scabies is highly contagious to other dogs.
436973 tn?1217947089 There are also some parasitic skin disorders such as Cheyletiella (known as “walking dandruff”) that can cause the coat to appear flaky and dry. This problem is more common during the winter when the air becomes drier than normal. Other than that, a good source of Omega-3 fatty acid will certainly help you. I wanted, however, to talk to you about this particular subject: Omega-3.
1608004 tn?1390770990 I noticed yesterday she seems to be having a bad case of the flakes. she has a lot of dandruff in her hair. she only eats grain free food (both wet and dry) should I be giving her something to counteract this dandruff? maybe some sardines or olive oil or something. thank you!
Avatar m tn Sarcoptic mange mites on the other hand, CAN infect humans - also known as crabs. Both of these mites are well known and easily identifiable which makes it doubtful that they are what you're dealing with. Get copies of all pathology reports and use that as the starting point of your research. Best of luck to you - you truly have my sympathy!
Avatar n tn I have always had horrible dandruff(psoriasis) only on my scalp so its hard to tell what is dandruff or if there really could be lice or some other kind of mites crawling up there. How do I tell the difference between scabies, lice, bedbugs, tiny white worms, and dandruff flakes?
Avatar m tn He will either offer you the medicated shampoo for lice, or make another suggestion. You might have him wash his beard with Listerine; my mother-in-law did that for dry scalp and dandruff and it is a refreshing rinse that will not hurt him. If neither of these work, consult a physician or dermatologist; he could have a skin condition and need to shave to be able to treat it adequately. Consult a professional if it continues.
Avatar f tn I believe you're overthinking it. Greasy hair has nothing to do with patm. I can greasy hair as well if I don't shower in 2 or 3 days. And I used to have dandruff (if you call that film) like crazy way before I developed patm. To have greasy hair and dandruff is normal.
Avatar f tn Annesco, We learn in life that what is indeed mysterious do have solutions. All along I used to believe that bird mites are a myth, and that the patient hasa parasitophobia. Now I know that atleat some cases of parasitophobia do have possibly bird mites. Avatar m tn In some cases it has not been confirmed if the vectors (mosquitoes, flies, mites, etc) can transmit the spirochetes to animals or humans. There are some studies indicating this may be possible, but more research is needed. In the meantime, do not rule out the possibility!" From: https://sites.google.com/site/marylandlyme/mosquitoes-flies-mites-etc The link you gave us is from Mercola talking about Dr. K in WA state. That raises some red flags for me.
Avatar n tn t seem to have made much of a dent in the dandruff. Like I said, the dandruff is minimal on some days and heavier on other days with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I've tried adding some olive oil to his food, and even rubbing some on him because I read it might help, but really when I massaged some olive oil into his skin it almost seemed to make the dandruff worse. What do you all think? I have read they sell dog balm and dog moisturizers, which I'd never even heard of before.
209987 tn?1451935465 The last time she was here ( last Christmas after dad passed ) I had taken her in because of this...they said it was mites. They never even did a swab! I've had many cats in the past and they ALWAYS did a swab to check for mites. They put the mite drops in her ears and told me to continue doing this for X number of days. It did nothing but make her more irritable, and the shaking was so violent that I thought she would snap her neck.
Avatar m tn Quite a few abnormalities going on here. Due to the response of the ivomec I would predict that yes your dog has skin mites. Likely a condition called "walking dandruff" (cheyletiella species is the type of mite). This should respond to ivomec however recurring infections are often due to immune deficiencies in the patient or an autoimmune disorder. Prednisone is a good temporary anti-inflammatory however to use it on a young dog long term is not recommended.

Avatar n tn and dry skin, and have found they are tiny light orange mites. The orange mites are hard to find as they are buried in loads of skin flakes, but after spraying myself and my dog with topical ivermectin (intended for cattle and sheep), you will find them. The ivermectin causes them to move which you can definately feel as it basically makes them unable to stop moving and thus eventually die. They eat keratin, which is in skin, hair and nails.
