Avatar m tn My 7 yr old female cat has developed what appears to be dandruff thick skin flakes that slough off. Is this a cat's allergy or a dietary problem?
Avatar n tn Have a vet do a skin scraping of the bald spots to make sure it's not mange. If it's mange, the mite that causes it will show up on the microscope slide and the appropriate treatment can be instituted. You want to have this done as soon as possible, since some types of mange can be transmitted to humans. Demodectic mange is caused by a mite found in the skin of all dogs. Sometimes the mites begin localized infestations and that's when hair loss results.
Avatar f tn I believe you're overthinking it. Greasy hair has nothing to do with patm. I can greasy hair as well if I don't shower in 2 or 3 days. And I used to have dandruff (if you call that film) like crazy way before I developed patm. To have greasy hair and dandruff is normal.
Avatar f tn Well cats unlike humans can adapt to being blind. I wouldn't worry too much about his being able to see. The walking in circles is more concerning.
Avatar n tn t seem to have made much of a dent in the dandruff. Like I said, the dandruff is minimal on some days and heavier on other days with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I've tried adding some olive oil to his food, and even rubbing some on him because I read it might help, but really when I massaged some olive oil into his skin it almost seemed to make the dandruff worse. What do you all think? I have read they sell dog balm and dog moisturizers, which I'd never even heard of before.
Avatar n tn i have a fungi and cyst in my head, i don't know how i manage to catch it,it itches,i went and get meds ,i was given advantan cream and exoderil cream,it goes away but comes back again,do you think i am spreading it with my finges when i apply the cream?when will this thing go away?
675347 tn?1365460645 ) It does seem to be more like dead skin-cells She also is not inclined to lick her fur, except the hair-free parts of her belly, (and dog-bits!) When I rub my hands in her fur for a while, shaking loose hairs and dandruff, my hands come away slightly white, with a slightly waxy film on them. She smells very clean, and seems to keep naturally clean, and because I didn't want to get rid of her natural oils I haven't bathed her for quite a while.
Avatar n tn Bird mites have to be treated with a bug bomb and the bird or rodent nest removed. Pet mites(or walking dandruff) look like tiny white dandruff that moves. This is treated with a strong flea/mite shampoo weekly for 4 weeks plus the carpet/upholstery must be treated with a flea carpet spray weekly for 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn I experience a lot of itching in them. I oil my scalp regularly and use an anti dandruff shampoo but so far no improvement. I have 4-5 such patches on my scalp and every time i brush my hair, a lot of dandruff comes out. Someone please advise!
Avatar n tn i dont know if its dandruff or wat, but it doesnt come in flakey form. it comes in tiny hair forms. they are white dust like particles which are in my hair and they never run out. what may the cause be and what should i do to stop it? i used to wash my hair every day/twice a day if i play ball. for the last 3 days ive tried shampooing every other day, but i do still wash my hair with water. but no good, there are still a massive amount of dust in my hair. What sort of illness is this?
Avatar m tn S) -My scalp itches LOADs when I even become a bit hot/sweaty (this started about my 3rd year of dandruff, wasnt there in the 1st 2 years). I.e when I take a walk/go to the gym. I have recently gone to the gym, and it is all fine walking into the gym. But then when my body temp begins to warm up, not even started sweating, my scalp would itch like crazy. I would have to go to the toilet to douse it with cold water.
436973 tn?1217947089 There are also some parasitic skin disorders such as Cheyletiella (known as “walking dandruff”) that can cause the coat to appear flaky and dry. This problem is more common during the winter when the air becomes drier than normal. Other than that, a good source of Omega-3 fatty acid will certainly help you. I wanted, however, to talk to you about this particular subject: Omega-3.
763572 tn?1274174679 I have a staffie who also scratches a LOT and loses a lot of fur. The only way I've managed to control this, even with trying all the fancy pet products, is using anti dandruff shampoo for humans, but ONLY certain brands that aren't harsh, like Head & Shoulders.
Avatar f tn I breed toy poodles. I have three pups right now that arec10weeks and within the last 3 weeks I'm noticing more scratching in all three pups and hairless on their necks from scratching. No fleas. Vet has given them one dose of advantage once a week, their second treatment will be this monday. He thought MAYBE it could be walking dandruff but he says may not be as there's no dander full or flakey skin at all.
Avatar n tn Apply it twice in a week at night and keep overnight. There are many anti dandruff shampoos in the market which you can use. Comb your hair well and massage your scalp well. If dandruff persists consult a skin specialist. Once this resolves the lymph nodes will disappear on their own. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
1608004 tn?1390770990 I noticed yesterday she seems to be having a bad case of the flakes. she has a lot of dandruff in her hair. she only eats grain free food (both wet and dry) should I be giving her something to counteract this dandruff? maybe some sardines or olive oil or something. thank you!
Avatar f tn As Dr. Smith recommends, you need to contact your physician about treatment options in humans; as in dogs, some people are more sensitive to the bites. I would also recommend that all mammals in the household be treated with a more reliable insecticide for cheyletiella, such as Revolution, ivermectin, or Frontline spray, as I have had less success with Frontline Spot on. I usually will treat every 2 weeks for 4 treatments, as well as continue environmental control.
Avatar n tn It felt like someone is pouring acid on it. It even felt painful to move my hair in any direction. It was so excruciating I ended up in the urgent care twice. They ran a bunch of thyroid and hormonal tests which came back fine.
Avatar n tn html and believe this to be walking dandruff or the Cheyletiella mite. But this time it was worse. More sever itching and this time all over my head and face including inside my ears and up inside my nostrils. Also in my eyelids and eyebrows and lashes. In desperation I rubbed surgical spirit into the most affected areas and this helps a lot. But it stings like hell for a couple of minutes - like after-shave but worse.
Avatar m tn The purpose of patents is to protect ideas that investigators hope to investigate. There is no credible evidence that I am aware of that FIV causes disease in humans. Please do not worry and do not worry about your cat, the possiblity of it infecting you or you infecting your girlfriend.
535822 tn?1443976780 well its raining here today and Tweety went out in it she doesnt like the rain but its better than staying in ...She came in wet and I ot a towel to dry her, I noticed many white bits on her fur, got the wire brush and brushed her, it looks like dandruff do, cats get that ,its not flea eggs as when I looked through the magnifying glass you can se its like of flaky bits.. Avatar m tn I first started getting dandruff a while back; now I have spots that are very visible, especially when I get out of the shower. They don't really itch or hurt but they do have a redness to them, but its just really dry patches; I've tried treating them with over-the-counter dandruff shampoo but to no avail. I also have a dry-skin problem on my face and my doctor gave me Ketoconazole cream which helped, but the same cream does not remedy my scalp problems.
Avatar n tn Sometimes an allergy to dairy products, nuts and chocolates may cause dandruff, in which case you should avoid them for about eight weeks to be able to access its effect. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help.
