Common Questions and Answers about Walking dandruff mites on humans

dandruff

Avatar n tn My daughter rescued a puppy and we believe it has walking dandruff...Me and my daughter are broken out in an itchy rash...Is there a natural treatment that will get rid of this on us?
Avatar n tn Have a vet do a skin scraping of the bald spots to make sure it's not mange. If it's mange, the mite that causes it will show up on the microscope slide and the appropriate treatment can be instituted. You want to have this done as soon as possible, since some types of mange can be transmitted to humans. Demodectic mange is caused by a mite found in the skin of all dogs. Sometimes the mites begin localized infestations and that's when hair loss results.
Avatar n tn Bird mites have to be treated with a bug bomb and the bird or rodent nest removed. Pet mites(or walking dandruff) look like tiny white dandruff that moves. This is treated with a strong flea/mite shampoo weekly for 4 weeks plus the carpet/upholstery must be treated with a flea carpet spray weekly for 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn s not mites or walking dandruff. Advantage multi kill many mites so were playing safe. We now have moved on thinking its a fungal infection, it's only making one pup really lose hair the other two have the itch but aren't losing near as much hair.
Avatar n tn In a previous thread you mentioned flakes on your face, Facial dandruff is a symptom. The problem really is why are the mites out of control. Sometimes an autoimmune disorder is the root cause. There are many autoimmune disorders. Some serious, some not so serious and treatable. Large amounts can cause these symptoms. Normal amounts would normally not be noticed. There are treatments for this if you do some research and contact your Dermatologist. Most treatments need a prescription.
Avatar m tn In some cases it has not been confirmed if the vectors (mosquitoes, flies, mites, etc) can transmit the spirochetes to animals or humans. There are some studies indicating this may be possible, but more research is needed. In the meantime, do not rule out the possibility!" From: https://sites.google.com/site/marylandlyme/mosquitoes-flies-mites-etc The link you gave us is from Mercola talking about Dr. K in WA state. That raises some red flags for me.
784128 tn?1236278645 No. This type of condition does not affect humans; that is, humans can't get it from cats. Don't worry. My cat had it and the vet said it was ok for him to keep sleeping with us in the bed. I treated that with Mitaclear. It got rid of ear mites in a week, and his case was pretty bad!!!!
20901864 tn?1609460338 I have been suffering from a bug ish for almost 2 years now pictures included started out thinking it was dandruff or mites there reproduction is amazingly supper fast it floats around the room I have seen the older ones fly there living in my skin nose and its been torcher I have seen 3 dermatologist all say no mites so I am at a lose I'm starting to think doctors no what this is I started looking into nano technology and Magallanes all the chemicals they have been spraying us with I think
Avatar n tn Treat the area with an approved insecticide to ensure that there will be no future infestation. Bird mites will feed on humans but do not live for long as they cannot complete their life cycle on humans. Infestations are generally self-limiting especially if birds and nesting have been eradicated. Bites from bird mites can cause severe irritation, itching, swelling and raised reddish spots on the skin. An anti-itch cream or lotion may help reduce irritation. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn Our cat is not shy with family and if our natural body oil helps at all, Catalina should be helped if she has dry skin, because she often loves to be petted and scratched! I think it is because scientists recognize there's a difference that they prefer to experiment on animals to humans. As a female not fond of rats and mice, I think they make a fine contribution to humans when they help advance medicine! Of course, cats are fond of those animals for prey!
Avatar m tn The fact that they are outside would support it being even more difficult to have these mites on a person. In my opinion, medical doctors should be more careful when concluding that these mites are from the cats without any solid proof because some people may interpret that as needing to get rid of their pets..ok, off of my soapbox...

Avatar m tn There is A LOT of misinformation about these mites on the internet and with veterinarians. I have yet to find a vet that knows anything about these mites, been to three, but can't afford any more. This is one of the best articles i have found on the subject. Look up "what's eating you? Cheyletiella Mites" by HH Reynolds. There is a free pdf available from the Semantic Scholar website.
1380814 tn?1285965586 Canine or feline scabies mites can bite humans and cause itchy red bumps, but they cannot reproduce on our skin, and so the mites usually die a couple of weeks after exposure, unless the affected pets continue to expose their owners. Humans can also have their own species of scabies, so if you have concerns about a skin condition, please consult your medical doctor or dermatologist. Below is more info about scabies. Transmission or Cause: Canine scabies is highly contagious to other dogs.
Avatar m tn In general, the scabies mites that infect humans are not transmitted to animals. If your dog had gotten scabies from you, I suspect that a flea shampoo should take care of things.
436973 tn?1217947089 Well, if you are sure this isn't dander, then it could be mites, fleas, sunburn or sensitivity to something new in the house, like new carpet, or new odor eliminating spray. Anything new in the house that you recall? Usually, winter is a season when many places become extremely dry. What are the humidity levels in your place? If your hands feel very dry, then your cat might be experiencing this as well. Check her for parasites, fleas, mites etc. Is she indoors or outdoors?
Avatar n tn I have always had horrible dandruff(psoriasis) only on my scalp so its hard to tell what is dandruff or if there really could be lice or some other kind of mites crawling up there. How do I tell the difference between scabies, lice, bedbugs, tiny white worms, and dandruff flakes?
1608004 tn?1390770990 Hi Nance, Your little girl is adorable. We need to find an answer to the dandruff problem so she look her best healthy self. Could just be dry skin from inside air without humidity , could be an allergy to cleaning products or other environmental factors, could also be a parasitic infestation. There is such a thing as "walking dandruff" it walks because it is caused by a large reddish mite. This mite will cause mild itching with a tremendous amount of dry skin.
Avatar m tn Sarcoptic mange mites on the other hand, CAN infect humans - also known as crabs. Both of these mites are well known and easily identifiable which makes it doubtful that they are what you're dealing with. Get copies of all pathology reports and use that as the starting point of your research. Best of luck to you - you truly have my sympathy!
Avatar f tn Does anyone have the name of a dermatologist who is knowledgeable about bird mites infestation in humans?
Avatar n tn t seem to have made much of a dent in the dandruff. Like I said, the dandruff is minimal on some days and heavier on other days with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I've tried adding some olive oil to his food, and even rubbing some on him because I read it might help, but really when I massaged some olive oil into his skin it almost seemed to make the dandruff worse. What do you all think? I have read they sell dog balm and dog moisturizers, which I'd never even heard of before.
Avatar m tn Quite a few abnormalities going on here. Due to the response of the ivomec I would predict that yes your dog has skin mites. Likely a condition called "walking dandruff" (cheyletiella species is the type of mite). This should respond to ivomec however recurring infections are often due to immune deficiencies in the patient or an autoimmune disorder. Prednisone is a good temporary anti-inflammatory however to use it on a young dog long term is not recommended.

Avatar n tn I think there's more going on, too. The sores and scabs can be from flea bites, yeast, or bacterial infections such as Staph. The flaking can be from any of these, but the "Weird Smell" points towards "Mange". Although some Yeast infections have an Odd odor, Mange has such an unusual smell that it's hard to forget. Your dog needs to have a skin scraping done, to determine which of these things to treat.
Avatar m tn Ok my question is if it is mite can you take the D E to help our systm inside as well as will it take care of those mites? and if it does can she put some on her cheeks to kill those mites and be done with it? is that recomended? We are thinking about getting some for the detox program.
