Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting cat with diabetes

vomiting

Avatar m tn OHHHHH, I am sorry-I should've included all of that!! OOPS!! ={ ALL of these conditions are treatable!! That is really great! But, if left untreated, these conditions can be very very dangerous. Since, you said she's not vomiting, then I'm leaning more toward diabetes or hyperthyroid disease. It's more likely diabetes. Diabetes can damage the kidneys if it's left untreated. I am very concerned for her right now because of all of the water she's drinking.
Avatar m tn We have now switched to 1mg of Budesonide a day to help with the inflammation and to try and bring the diabetes under control, we are giving our cat 1cc of insulin a day and we have switched his diet to Nature's Variety Instinct brand of cat food in the rabbit formulation. Our cat also gets 1/2 tablet of viokase 16 before each meal to help him digest his food as he was having very loose stools and urinating throughout the house.
Avatar f tn Vomiting in cats can be caused by many different things. Diabetes is one cause that is high on the list. Please bring him to the vet and have him checked for diabetes ASAP. Other possible causes include: inflammatory bowel disease or other digestive disorder, gastrointestinal parasites, food allergy, constipation and anal gland problems, gastrointestinal neoplasm, and others. Only a vet visit and appropriate diagnostic testing can sort this out.
Avatar n tn Yout vet IS right, high protein diets will harm you cat's kidneys...but the thing I don't get, you cat is diabetic or you're just scared that diets with carbs will cause diabetes?? Because it's not carbs that cause diabetes, it's a really high sugar diet that causes it in animals, commercial food have just the carbs and proteins and fats that your cat need (the good ones, of course there are some brands that can damage pets).
Avatar f tn I have one cat that vomits everyday. When this first happened she was on dry food and the vomiting was so bad that she was losing a large amount of weight (starving to death). Took her in to the vet couldn't find anything wrong with her so they gave her some meds to take before she ate. I took the food and soaked in water to soften it up seemed to help for awhile.
Avatar f tn Are you giving your cat a pro-biotic along with the anti-biotic? Probiotics, such as acidophilus help replenish the gut with the good bacteria that the antibiotic kills off along with the infectious bacteria. The "good" bacteria from the probiotic may help with the nausea. Ginger capsules may also help. The average size cat can take one ginger capsule up to four times daily.
Avatar n tn My husband accidentally gave our cat 20 mg of hcg used for his weight loss instead of the 6mg of insulin that is for the cat's diabetes. what side effects will occur in the cat, hopefully it won't kill him..
654228 tn?1224277672 I have a 10 year old male, declawed, indoor, neutered, siamese short hair cat. About 5 days ago he was 100% fine but all of a sudden hes lost his balance, he still can walk , but he cant jump or make fast turns very well. Also hes gotten skinnier out of the blue this past 2 weeks. He was throwing up about every time we feed him but we bought a different kind of cat food and hes stopped but he still does it like once a week. Also this past month his fur has been getting knots like crazy.
Avatar f tn The vomiting and twitching might not be something serious. A cat will naturally twitch when they're in a deep sleep. My cat does it all the time and it's NOT a seizure. If you're seeing only the paws twitching and no other symptoms, then you have nothing to worry about. The vomiting, depending on how long it's been going on, may not be serious. Sometimes vomiting can be caused from a new diet change and other times it can be caused from hairballs.
Avatar f tn Hello my 12 yo cat has lost half her weight vomiting with diarrhea containing partially formed stool. Her stomach makes a symphony of gurgling noises. Vet did blood tests and physical exam and everything was normal. He couldn't get fecal sample treated her for worms with no improvement. She eats constantly, drinks a large amount of water but is losing weight and becoming weak. We already spent $200 trying to diagnose her ailment and I'm at a loss as to solutions.
Avatar n tn My cat was diagnosed with diabetes about a month ago. He was up to 9 units of Vetsulin and his blood sugar was still over 500. The vet switched him to PZI at 4 units twice a day. For the last month he has been losing urine. If he lays in a spot, when he gets up his fur on the back of his legs is wet. His bladder gets huge and when I find the wet spots I take him to the litter box and he goes and goes and goes. One day he walked on the counter and was dripping urine the whole time.
Avatar f tn My cat has recently began ripping her hair out in the last week. She is an indoors cat mostly, but she has slipped outside a few times, as well. We live in the country. In the last week, she has been ripping her hair out and now has large bald patches (some are bleeding and scabbing). Tonight she vomited her food on the kitchen floor. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm very concerned.
Avatar f tn If she is not eating, what is she vomiting up? What is she currently being treated for?
436973 tn?1217947089 Hi, my cat does this sometimes a couple of times a week and goes on a couple of weeks break and also acts perfectly fine-playing, eating, etc. I'm a little worried, too. But, she seems fine! What I plan to do is to give her a hairball remedy twice a week and see how that goes. I'd try that with your kitty, too. It's cheap and worth a try with our cats especially since there's no other symptoms.
592969 tn?1248325405 com A vet on CNN asked cat owners to NOT feed your cat any brand of cat food with wheat gluten in it (Fancy Feast has it) You can look it up if you'd like. Overall, consumers and vets agree that Fancy Feast isn't really safe to give cats. However, though, and this is what your cat may be going through, some cats will vomit when fed ANY wet foods. Well, you know your cat better than us. I hope he gets better, and goes back to his normal self.
207091 tn?1337709493 it is immediately apparent whether eating is adequate, or occurring at all AND when a pet is ill, there are still fallback foods as yet untried with which to tempt an older sick cat that may not be eating. (Hold your fire with food changes, young cat owners!) 3. (She is not eating her dry food at all.) May be "finickiness" as described in #2 above or painful dental disease. Get it checked out. 4.
Avatar f tn Sounds to me like she may need at least an xray to see if there is a blockage in her intestines----This is very serious and urgent that you let the Vet do what he needs to do . Vomiting everything she eats was what caused my cat to have exploratory surgery to see if there was a blockage---thank God there wasn't but she was a very sick little girl..
747613 tn?1233526730 She has been at the Vet since 9:00 a.m. it is now 3:38 p.m. The Vet took an Xray of her and didn't find anything so he is currently doing the barium series and waiting until that goes through her system. He is also waiting for the blood results to come back. She is on fluids for dehydration and all i can do is wait and hope that everything goes well.
Avatar n tn blood sugar of 109 is within normal limits. fasting blood sugar of over 120 is indicative of diabetes. you can ask for a OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test) where she will drink so super sugary drink wait 10 hours and they will test her blood sugar. her symptoms don't match up with diabetes. the big symptoms are that she is almost thristy, always going to the bathroom, always hungry and eating but losing weight. i hope this helps.
Avatar f tn my cat is 6 years old recently diagnosed with diabetes he is a very thin lean cat so the vet thinks there is an underling issue is the problem. but yesterday he started puking for no reason and the vet said hes severely dehydrated and would cost me 1000 dollars to have him stay over night and have fluids put in him and i dont have that kind of money sitting around.
Avatar n tn hi so my cat is 6 he was just diagnosed with diabetes but the vet thinks theres another underlining issue because he's a thin active cat. but yesterday he started puking for no reason even tho he had nothing in his stomach i didnt give him his insulin that morning and then i had to leave for work when i got home my mom told me he had kept puking while i was at work and he was just laying on the floor and wouldnt move at all.
Avatar n tn I need help.I have an obese 8 year old siamese cat that underwent intestinal surgery last week for an obstruction. He ate my baby's bath toy- alphabet letter made of foam. The surgery went well as the foam was already in the colon and was "milked" out. I brought "George" home the next day due to the impending hurricane-IKE. George did well the first two days and then began vomiting bile. He was unable to eat, pass stool or keep anything down.
Avatar n tn My sister does not live with me, but lives nearby. She had a low episode where her cat got on top of her and gave a little tiny bite to her face to I get her attention. She has had other low episodes where her cat would get on her chest and not get off even once when someone was trying to help my sister, her cat was still on her chest!
Avatar n tn I was wondering if kitty might have or be starting to have feline diabetes. Especially if kitty is an overweight cat, ten years is about when you have to start worrying about "older cat" issues, such as the above, hyper thyroidism, etc...
