Avatar m tn Misfits4Me - thank you for your feedback. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy by not accepting this guy's opinion. I know as people we can get emotional we people (and animals) that we love are given a bad prognosis and we may not want to hear the news associated with their fate... I actually have another vet appointment tomorrow with a different vet that came highly recommended to me by a co-worker. Dr. Cheng - thank you so much for your feedback.
6326336 tn?1380345254 High calcium levels will cause excessive thirst - and this will cause excessive drinking - which in turn will cause excessive urinating. If he has high calcium, it can be controlled relatively easily (probably through a change of diet, but take your vet's advice on this). Over-active and under-active adrenalin production can also cause excessive drinking. Again, this should have been explored in the blood results, but worth checking with your vet.
Avatar f tn This can also be the result of diseases like diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus. Heart, liver and kidney failure and also certain medications cause excessive thirst. Some people with severe acidity too develop a habit of drinking water to counteract the effect of acidity In your case, probably chronic diarrhea has precipitated increased thirst. Chronic diarrhea can be due to parasitic infestations.

Avatar f tn I am constantly thirsty and want extremely cold drinks I keep water on me at all times and mix in juice too. But the main thing is stay hydrated because baby is taking all your nutriance I'm 16+2 and still dealing with it.
Avatar m tn You seriously need to see your dr and give them ur symptoms. This symptom is a sign of high blood sugar. I was in the same boat went to the dr they did a random blood suger it was almost 600 normal is 80-120 and my A1C determines the length of time you have been diabetic was 7.2 normal is 6 so the dr told me I have had it for at least 6 months. This can be very dangerous even deadly, don't mess with it.
Avatar n tn Excessive thirst is a very common symptom of a high blood sugar and keytones in your blood system. The excessive thirst is always accompinied by frequent urination. The thirst is often for something sweet, because your body is looking for energy where ever it can get it. Other symptoms include rapid weight-loss and not the good kind either, before I was diagnosed I lost 35lbs in 2 weeks. If you do exhibit these symptoms get your blood sugar tested if you have access to a glucose tester.
931246 tn?1297902651 s only one real sensible answer....and that is take him in to be checked out. Tell the vet everything, and they can check his heart, and investigate the reason for his thirst. However are you sure that his breathing when he's sleeping isn't snoring? Some dogs do snore. This can sometimes be a sign there is slight airway obstruction, but very often, it doesn't mean anything very serious. Also when dogs dream their breathing changes.
Avatar m tn He had not displayed any of the symptoms we are told to look out for, the thirst, weakness and hair loss etc. Came as a complete shock when I was told by the vet. Following an ultrasound and ACTH test he was started on 60mg of Vetoryl. He is now twelve years old and following several stimulation tests over the three years his medication is now 20mg per day. On the whole he manages quite well, goes for short walks, loves playing with his toy, appetite good (not excessive) and no great thirst.
172023 tn?1334672284 I'm sorry to pick your brain again, Dr. Cheng. Jake, our 8 y/o neutered male Dobe has yet another UTI diagnosed yesterday. This time, he presented with vomiting a couple times a day for 2-3 weeks, excessive water drinking, and excessive urination. (He's had repeated infections before, but those were very obvious with bloody urine and frequent, small accidents). This time we're pretty stumped b/c of the appearance of his urine. No blood at all in it.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am sorry because I wasn't here yesterday when you posted. I hope your dog is okay. Rolaids contain Calcium Carbonate, which in small doses is pretty harmless, and is poorly absorbed by the dog's system unless paired with Vitamin D. The only thing to be watchful of is they can cause constipation. And possibly thirst. But fluids will help flush the Calcium out. A dog with normal kidneys should be able to tolerate a few Rolaids.
1448936 tn?1363206346 Anxiety can cause excessive thirst (although your stomach will feel full with anxiety attack) but other serious conditions like Diabetes also cause excessive thirst in which your thirst hardly quenches. So please get yourself tested for Diabetes .. if test appears negative, then your case should be anxiety disorder.
Avatar f tn My year and a half yr old poodle had a bout of diarrhea and vomiting yesterday. I rushed her to the emergency vetvand had blood testing done.this was last night. Right when I got home from the vet she was running around playong. Vet said it was nothing serious. But today without eating house food that upset her stomach she still had some diarrhea. Is this something to worry about or maybe some diarrhea still left over from last night? She is lively and running around.
Avatar m tn Hi, there are a few conditions that cause excessive thirst in a cat that's over 7 yrs old-diabetes, kidney disease, and thyroid disease. All 3 of these conditions will also cause weight loss. Kidney disease will cause vomiting. Both thyroid(over active thyroid) and diabetes will cause an excessive appetite. If you decide to take your cat to the vet, please request blood work and a urinalysis to check for these conditions.
Avatar n tn s syndrome, and brain tumors. Also, some medications can cause excessive thirst. A simple blood test can determine or rule out diabetes, thyroid, or cushing's. Good luck.
Avatar f tn You pooch is displaying symptoms of bloating. This is a condition in which the dog swallows excessive air and fluids causing a swelling in the stomach. This condition warrants a trip to the vet.
Avatar m tn Our 8 year old black lab/german short-hair pointer has been getting progressively worse over the past weeks to months with defecation in the house, generally very loose or mixed stools. She has recently been showing excessive amounts of thirst, which is also causing her to urinate in the house. For many years she has had thunderstorm and fireworks anxiety.
