Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting in elderly dogs

vomiting

Avatar m tn No, but if a pet has all the symptoms, such as enlargement of all the lymph nodes in an elderly patient there is a chance that the patient may have lymphoma. A veterinarian would than do a fine needle aspirate (needle biopsy), or excisional biopsy, and bloodwork to be definitive.
Avatar n tn My dog is vomiting. I have a prescription for Ondansetron . It is 4 MG. Can I give it to my dog? He is 13 and weighs 7.9 lbs.
Avatar m tn It is not that uncommon for dogs to vomit yellow bile, which is usually a sign of an upset or empty stomach. Dogs will often graze on grass then throw up to help relieve an upset stomach. This can often be remedied by feeding smaller meals more frequently but not more food. Have you changed foods recently? This could be something more serious, of course. Any chance your dog may have ingested something in the house or outside?
Avatar f tn My jack russell terrier was in acute kidney failure last month and is now in chronic. Her blood work, off the charts in some areas, has normalised but her urine showed high protein and she has high blood pressure; she is taking enalapril for both of these. She is on Hills KD and has shown improvement in weight gain, appetite, zest for life, her coat looks fantastic. But I can't seem to control her vomiting for more than a few days.
Avatar f tn s 16 years old, he keeps having diarrhea too, and today including vomiting. I live in a Singapore, is it due to heat or? Please tell me what to do, can I give him charcoal pills?
Avatar n tn Sometimes dogs will produce large amounts of acid if they go too long in between meals. While this is more common in bulldogs, it can happen in any breed. It sounds like this is what is happening with your lab. You can apply a quick fix to this by feeding him a biscuit or two very late at night. This should keep his hunger down and the acid in his stomach to a minimum until breakfast.
495284 tn?1333894042 I was just wondering if anyone has used meds for incontinence. The beagle is elderly and having a really hard time making it outside anymore. She will get up off her couch and start going on the way to the door. I have discussed this with my vet and he has said there are meds for this. My concern was giving her something that would hurt her other organs. Just wondering if anyone has had good luck with the meds. I will be going tomorrow to get these so will know what they are called then...
Avatar f tn hes 11 years old and surgery is not affordable for me. i wonder if he has enough quality of life. he is in the same living quarters he has had all his life. so he is familliar with where all his stuff (food, water, door to outside) is.i just hate to think of putting him down. other than his eyesight, hes as active as a puppy. any advice anyone?
Avatar f tn Hi. What to say, other than that 18yrs is an extraordinarily good age. She is a very elderly lady. I have a crossbreed who breathes heavy during the night (actually whenever he's in deep sleep). I wouldn't worry too much. Older dogs sleep alot and certainly aren't as perky as younger dogs. Just imagine a human that's 88yrs old ... as that's the human equivalent for a Jack Russell. Walking sideways is another issue.
Avatar f tn superintendant always let her three dogs out with no leashes. they attacked my cat. he was traumatized. since yesterday he is vomiting;alot or a little. i can't afford veterinary care.what can i do. is his vomiting caused by attack,i haven't seen no major injuries.
Avatar f tn Good suggestion. I will ask to have him checked for tick born diseases and parasites as well. We have thought about poisoning but can't think of what that could be. There is nothing in our yard, we checked, and we dont' live in a neighborhood where anyone would throw something over the wall. He also doesn't take "treats" from strangers. He is fed food that I cook for him. It was organic chicken, brown rice and carrots and some organic kibbles.
Avatar n tn Does she have abdominal pain? Vomiting bile may be from intestinal obstruction - this is a dangerous situation, well, in this case she would fell vey bad. Does she have any medical history, and why do you think is she vomiting now. If she can't drink, or in intense abdominal pain, you should refer her right to the emergency.

Avatar m tn While phenergan is usually prescribed for people, our vet tells us it can be used safely for dogs. Since I have terrible nausea and vomiting troubles myself, I always have some in the house for the occasional doggie illness. There is always something else to try, so don't be afraid to ask. And don't forget to post back and let us know what your vet says.
Avatar f tn My dogs bun level in at 122 up from 85 in December. He is a Laasa Apso age 16. Liver and heart are fine. Phosphorus level is 9.6. My vet has only said this will get worse. So far he is not vomiting but has loss of interest in food and it is a real challenge to get him to eat anything. He sleeps most of the time. My vet has me giving him B12 shots every 3 days. Other than suggesting a low protein diet and Standard Process renal support he hasn't offered me anymore suggestions.
163305 tn?1333668571 The other two — a 66-year-old man who didn’t follow evacuation orders and an elderly person found by cadaver dogs — were killed about 175 miles southeast in the Butte Fire, according to Calaveras County coroner Kevin Raggio. More than 20,000 managed to flee both those fires. And they’ve lost a lot in the process. But, to them, much is also being given. Sophie Lauterborn calls it a “tsunami of generosity.” he lost her home in Middletown to the flames. A friend is putting her up.
Avatar m tn I had an elderly bulldog that got in and out of bed and sometimes got lost in the house if he went downstairs *all* night long. For months! I would get her checked out at the vet, it could be she is overdoing it during the day and is sore. There are some meds to slow the dementia, but I'm not sure how well they work. Would she sleep in a crate? God luck and please let us know what happens.
Avatar f tn My dog was not eating and throwing up for 7 days and had diaherra. We did take him to the vet several times and we did the what ginger899 said above. And usually what Ginger said works. But not this time... The vet first gave us some TYLAN powder to stop the diaherra, and thats when he started to throw up and not eat. The vet then gave us some medicine for nausea and some peptobismol type stuff, and it didnt work.
152660 tn?1291755571 Hi there, Okay, I have a few questions to ask you. How many cats do you have ? How old are they? How long have you had them? We have a cat too who is very good at climbing. You mentioned putting up a baby gate to keep your cats and the dog you're thinking of getting apart. If your cats are as good as my cat as climbing, this won't work. Cats can climb baby gates. We have tried putting a baby gate up at the foot of the stairs. We live in a townhouse.
