Exposed to HSV 1&2 two weeks ago, been on Doxycycline for 10 days and Valtrex for 5 days. About noon yesterday, my lips started to swell, inside mouth flesh too, looks red and irritated. Is this par for herpes BO?
One note, after reading online, learned pineapple could cause some issues. I did eat pineapple about 7 AM yesterday morning and it burned like crazy, never experienced that before.

It's not likely to be herpes without any sores, but stop taking the Valtrex and see what happens. Herpes typically doesn't go from the genitals to the mouth as easily as it does from the mouth to the genitals.
When you say you took Valtrex before you had sex, do you mean you take it daily? In order for Valtrex to work to reduce transmission, you have to take it daily for at least 5 days prior to having sex.
My doctor gave me another course of Valtrex. So now I am on day 8 of Valtrex and applying Abreeva to my mouth and I worry that I am going to break out again, but on the mouth. But my first outbreak was just my chin and my genitalia. I have nothing on my genitals and only one cold sore on my chin. Why would the mouth suddenly erupt, 7 days later, when I had never caught it there anyways.
Is it possible that the Valtrex is not working?
Burning more in the Genital area but all over my body! I have been taking 1 gram per day for 4 months. I was taking for longer before but i stopped to see if that's what's been causing the burning for about 1 month but im not sure if that was a long enough wait because i still had the burning.
t swab for HSV, swabbed for bacteria neg.), Tongue was sore. Took Valtrex, seemed to be getting better then flared up again after day 5 on meds. Hasn't gone away It's been 16 days! a little better...Does herpes on the tongue look like?How do you distinguish from geographic tongue or plain stomatis?

I had it swabed and the doctor said it was not herpes. I upped Valtrex to 1500mg a day for five days and nothing happened. Could I be allergic to the Valtrex and only have a rash on part of my body? Any ideas what to do? I thought it might be a herpes rash, but I would think after ten years, the rash would go away within 7-12 days. It seems to be getting worse even using the Valtrex. Any help would be appreciated.
Agree with Grace on this. Your new friend needs to be tested to know for sure. As Grace says, only having sores inside the mouth doesn't sound a whole lot like herpes. The Doctor got him on Valtrex without even confirming with a test.

I've had genital herpes for 11 years. Except for the first extremely painful few months, I've luckily had only mild outbreaks about once every two years, just tiny blisters or papercut-like cuts that went away after a few weeks. I took acyclovir during the first outbreak (OB) and valtrex several times over the years.
After ending a long relationship about 4 months ago, I began taking lysine daily.

your newest symptoms don't sound herpes simplex related at all. most likely a common virus that just has to run its course.
the dose for cold sores for valtrex is just a twice a day one day dose but it's not going to work for non-herpes related issues.
have you and your gf had full herpes testing at all to know who has what?
Subsequently, I have had two severe outbreaks with sores all in my mouth, tongue, cheeks, and a few lesions in the genital area (first time for this ever). Severe enough that I could not eat for 3 days. Doctor suggested upping dose for valtrex from 1 g to 3 g for 7 days. I had blood panels done the only noticeable thing was a pretty low Vitamin D level (17) and high triglycerides (210). My question is: is this common?
Does anyone know if it's safer to start valtrex early during a primary infection for genital herpes
OR
is it better in the long run to ride the infection out so that you can make sufficient antibodies so that FUTURE outbreaks won't be as severe???

I seen the oral pathologist today. My mouth ulcers had cleared up and he wasn't to concern with them. When I told him I have had no relief of the gential herpe outbreaks even thoough on daily valtrex he was concerned.
My next stop is at my gyno but can not seem him for two weeks. He (pathologist) said it could be from something as simple as yeast infection(I had taken several Diflucan for my mouth) but would not comment much more. In my reach search it always goes back to HIV.
Did your doctor swab/culture the area? It's the only way for certain to know it's herpes going on.
Actually most oral herpes occurs on the lips/mouth. Here's a good resource for oral herpes, that grace also recommends. As you can see in the symptoms part, there is no mention of swollen/painful gums. Again, only a swab/culture of symptoms can diagnose. How were you tested?

after childbirth, i had a mouth full of sores for at least 6 months straight. doctor prescribed valtrex (without testing me for herpes...i had no idea it was herpes until same doctor tested me last month). my sores were gone within a few short days. HOWEVER, this relief only lasted about a month, then they returned. i simply treated them myself as i had done since childhood, and within a year, the sores decreased. i began valtrex again last month, taking 1000mg as symptoms appear.
t see anything but gave me valtrex in case because I have had cold sore type one before he also gave me a dental cream starts with a t for sores inside mouth incase. I think I will wait to take valtrex even though I had some tingly burning on face around mouth. I just hate to take drugs if I don't need. What would herpes on tounge look or feel like?
I actually am on valtrex for the suppression therapy. I am overly concerned about spreading this thing so I admit I have been under a tremendous amount of stress over this thing, and feel as if I kiss my guy that I'll just automatically give it to him. I feel as if I have constant prodrome symtoms but I don't know if it is because I'm just going crazy over this thing or maybe the valtrex is causing this? My wife has genital herpes and is treated daily with Valtrex and she has been outbreak free for well over a year. We have been together for 3 years and have never used condoms and I am still Herpes free. My questions deal with the possibility of contracting Genital Herpes when there is no outbreak.
1) What is the risk of contracting Genital Herpes between outbreaks through oral sex?
2) What is the risk of spreading the condition to others by giving or recieving oral sex between outbreaks?
Her and I were together 7 years by this time. I tested positive for Herpes Simplex I (mouth) but was negative for Herpes Simplex II (genital). I was told by the lab that Herpes Simplex I is very common (50-80% of population) and that most people don't know they have it( like me) because they never have symptoms. I have never had cold sores or anything on my mouth. I do often get Canker sores in my mouth but it's my understanding that is not herpes.
After thinking about it around 12 hours later I realized I was at risk for infection. I took 1500 MG of Valtrex and will continue with 1000MG twice a day for a few more days. It makes some sense that the Valtrex could interfere with the HSV1 virus spreading from the initial infection sight to the nerves if you have Valtrex in your system prior to of soon after an initial exposure. Does anyone have any insight?
The tingling I am experiencing every two weeks always starts with the spot where my first cold sore appeared and several spots around my mouth. Each time it has happened I will take a high dose of the Valtrex and it takes about 12 hours for the tingling to stop.
What do you think my next steps should be? I am concerned that my symptoms don’t seem typical as far as the frequency, but the tingling that is happening is very real for me.
