Urinary tract infection on dogs

Common Questions and Answers about Urinary tract infection on dogs

infection

Avatar n tn You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics. If your dog has crystals in his urine, the crystals would need to be identified and treatment instituted. Crystals can be dangerous in male dogs because if they become large enough they can become lodged in the urethra and cause blockage (even in dogs, though more common in male cats).
Avatar m tn This is a very common problem encountered in dogs and cats. The most likely diagnosis is a bladder stone. Rarely are urinary tract infections so severe that the owner can detect blood. It could be a UTI but either way your vet will need to see her. Expect a urine test and radiographs be recommended. Both of these conditions are quite painful so please seek veterinary attention immediately.
Avatar n tn Ive had a urinary tract infection for going on 6 weeks now. Ive been treated over and over and nothing seems to be getting rid of it. I dont have a regular dr so I am relying on trips to the er to help me. I am now so sick with the infection that I am throwing up and am in so much pain. I have a very serious history of kidney stones as well which doesnt help much either. I just had my last stone removed about 3 weeks ago.
Avatar f tn Yes, it sounds like she could have an urinary tract infection. Antibiotics from the vet will be needed. Hope she gets better soon.
Avatar f tn Has anyone got a urinary tract infection during pregnancy? Was it uncomfortable and a little painful at times? once treated did the uncomfortablness go away? I think I have one I have a drs appt in 4 days is it safe to wait until then?
Avatar f tn Im 90% sure that I have a urinary tract infection but I have additional symptoms that I dont usually have. My partner and I had sex several nights ago and I developed the usual symptoms: painful urination general discomfort frequent urination urine is cloudy and pink What is unusual is that I have clumps of something when I pee. They are pinkish is this a possible symptom that will pass just like the others?
Avatar n tn , but if your dog has not been spayed then potential reasons for a bloody vaginal discharge would be a heat cycle (which occurs every 6 months in dogs) or an infection in the uterus or urinary tract. Your veterinarian will be able to tell what the cause is based on exam and microscopic analysis of the cells lining the vagina.
4251679 tn?1370305531 UTIs are exactly what their name describes. and infection in your urinary tract. its not in your vagina, however, ive always been told not to have sex while you have one because sex could be the cause of it. and its best to make sure its all better before introducing even more bacteria. Ive never heard of it being contagious, and dont think that it is, but ask your doctor. and ive also never had a cream to use, so im not sure what thats for.
Avatar f tn I’m 20 years old. I have a urinary tract infection(coliform). A doctor prescribed Amoxicillin 625mg + Tamsulosin medicine for 10 days to me. I have a side effect after taking Tamsulosin (Retrograde ejaculation) or any other ejaculation problem. Is this normal or should I stop using Tamsulosin? Or will it (Retrograde ejaculation ) recover after stop using ten days? Should I keep getting Tamsulosin for 10 days or stop?
Avatar f tn How do you tell the difference between a urinary tract infection and yeast infectiy?
398377 tn?1201534325 There are a lot of things that could be going on. It could be anything from a urinary tract infection that can be cured with antibiotics, to kidney failure, to "laziness" as a result of the leg pain. If she's a senior dog (7 years and up) she may have lost some of the natural muscle tone of her bladder and urinary tract and simply doesn't feel the urge to go until it's too late. Either way, it's time to head back to the vet - along with a urine sample.
Avatar f tn Please check first to see if she has a urinary tract infection, which are very common in cats who have recently changed residences or are under any stress. If she does not have a urinary tract infection and the problem is behavioral, than it is important to get her to feel comfortable. Try the feline pheromone "Feliway", which is a plug-in air freshener that gives cats' a feeling of well-being.
Avatar m tn However, protein can show up in the urine if there is a urinary tract infection. If there is a urinary tract infection, that should be treated with antibiotics, obviously.
Avatar m tn As I read your question I too first thought of a urinary tract infection. The initial symptoms fit however it would not have been fatal. A considered diabetes as well. Diabetes causes an elevation in the blood sugar levels and results in excessive urinating, urinary tract infections, and weakness. Once you mentioned the extreme amount of blood during her final days I knew that this was likely a common urinary tract cancer called Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC).
Avatar n tn If there is still blood in the urine it means that the Urinary tract infection did not clear because of one of the following: the antibiotic was not given long enough, or the antibiotic was the incorrect one, or that your dog has crystals or stones in her bladder. When this occurs a culture and sensitivity should be performed on urine removed from the bladder via a cystocentesis when the dog has not been on antibiotics for at least 48 hours or so.
Avatar f tn Cranberry pills can only help with the pain of a UTI by sweeping the byproducts of the infection out of the urinary tract. It will not treat the actual infection. Urinary tract infections can be terribly difficult to treat for any animal, be it human, canine or anything else. All it takes is one little bacterium to survive treatment and the infection comes right back. That's one reason it's so important to take all antibiotics until they're gone.
Avatar n tn Yep. Urinary tract infection, kidney stones or bladder stones. Definitely need to get your pup to a vet. These are all very painful conditions that require medical care. There is nothing you can do at home to help it.
Avatar n tn After confirming the diagnosis of a urinary tract infection through urine tests, antibiotic treatment may be started. A urine culture and sensitivity test will determine the specific organism responsible as well as the antibiotic treatment. Drinking plenty of fluids also help. Take care and best regards.
Avatar n tn This sounds like a Severe UTI (Urinary Tract Infection)......If this has been going on awhile & she has not been seen by her Vet, then it's possible that it has turned into a Kidney Or Bladder Infection.....These conditions are very painful in dogs just as they are in humans.....I mean extremely painful!!!!! This will only get worse without treatment......You need to get into your Vet ASAP (Tomorrow) & get her some help......
