topamax

Hello, Topamax can cause itching and erythematous rash in some individuals.Although the main side effects of topamax are slower reflexes, trouble thinking or concentrating, tiredness, poor coordination, and dizziness, yet it has shown itchy skin in some individuals. I feel that if you are showing any allergic reaction to topamax, pls stop taking it and consult your doctor for a change in prescription. You can take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin for itching.
Reminds me of the commercials you see on TV with the list of side effects as long as your arm and the list of benefits that do not outweigh them. I will wait. Ever hear of Amy Clawsen????? She is doing a benefit in Oregon for MS. Well guys she is from the town I teach in and she is a great country music artist so look for her on utube. Oh and by the way she too has MS. Still don't want to talk about it. It drives me crazy. Did I mention i forgot to tag my car and got a ticket.

I'm weaning myself off the Zoloft....the only side effect that I am experiencing with the topamax is I feel a little goofy at times and my spelling and overall loss of words at times can be bothersome....Can anyone tell me if the weight loss and loss of appetite will decrease.... I am on 100mg a day... does anyone think I should increase my dosage? ( of course w/ my drs. permission)... this has truly been a great drug for my mood swings as well.....
I had tingling hands and feet in the beginning weeks and whenever I increase my dosage, and it goes away and is one of the more minor side effects. However, I have had many other side effects which have been more difficult to deal with and which have led me to take medical leave from my job as a custom framer for about the past six weeks. Topomax also gave me tons of "clean the house" energy (like Joan Crawford on acid) and also tons of anxiety and depression. The s.e.
She was like a guinea pig and now, 8 years after, she is living with side effects that have never gone : hypotension (around 8), fainding every day, unbearable headaches, kidney pyelonephritis every months, and an exhausting fatigue that keep her in her bed sometimes several days, where she can hardly eat alone. Before that, she was so full of life, making car races, flying planes, being a model for photographes, and photographer herself.
I am a former migraine sufferer. I had been put on Topamax and thought the side-effects to be unbearable at the time. Hair-loss was not a concern for me, though. Yes, I am a woman. With hair. Anyway, I fasted for 11 days, a naturopathic way to detoxify the body, and I don't experience a migraine but one every couple of months. Now I am on it for another reason: mood stabilizing. I will admit I want to lose weight.
(I think they believe Topamax is tolerated just like Gabapentin or Lyrica.) Because of this their patient's side effects become unbearable to the point where the person gets confused, panicky, anxious and just plain fed up with it all and quit the medication before the benefits are made clear. This doesn't happen when the medication is increased slowly. Second, you need to be at 150mgs or more to get pain relief benefits.
I havent thrown up since I was 8 yrs old, so, I am freaked out that the first listed side effects are nausea and vomiting on the pills and are also listed as effects on the shots.. HONESTLY how many of you have puked or felt like puking while taking these drugs..please be honest with me.. I have zophran I can take before the shot to help with that. I have genotype 3-A and my load is 280k.. counts are all normal and biopsy shows minimal to slight damage. Thanks guys.
I tolerated it extremely well, my only side effects were that I got tired more frequently and it killed my appetite. I'm a college student and I just moved back into my dorm this week, and like the idiot I am I forgot my topamax at home which is a two hour drive away. (Along with my wallet but that's another story entirely). So I've been forced to go cold turkey from it until I can talk to the psychiatrist here, who I won't have an appointment with for at least a week.
It was then increased to 50 mg just the past week and I've noticed itching and am wondering if it could be related to the Topamax. I've haven't called the Dr. yet about it because I've complained about other meds causing side effects and asked to go off them and probably shouldn't have and the last few meds she's given me, she's said to put side effects aside and try the med for awhile to see if it works.
I've been taking 100mg of topamax daily for about 6 months to help control my extreme moods and it was highly effective. I tolerated it extremely well, my only side effects were that I got tired more frequently and it killed my appetite. I'm a college student and I just moved back into my dorm this week, and like the idiot I am I forgot my topamax at home which is a two hour drive away. I end up breathing a little too fast and get dizzy. My aunt suggested it might be my Topamax, which can have the side effect of making it difficult to regulate your body temperature. She said it might be an inflammatory response to the heat. Could it be this or something else?
I was on topomax last Fall and it was for the same thing and to tell u the truth I went off because it had made my food&everything I drank taste bitter&I couldnt deal with.i was on for2months and didnt lose any weight i could keep off and it did cause weird feelings in my head and hallucinations.I havent been able2find anything4weightloss or migraine prevention.
One side-effect with Topamax that effects some people is kidney stones. This is a side-effect that effects my friend. She has been hospitalized for kidney stones a few times now. Kidney stones are incredibly painful and something you want to avoid at all costs. The topamax takes away her nerve pain and she would be disabled without. The kidney stones are a known risk that she has chosen to accept, and has chosen to continue accepting, because without the topamax she would be disabled.
I've been going through a world of medical issues over the past 8 months. I'm currently taking Topamax 50mg 1x daily at bedtime, Lexapro 20 mg 1x daily also at bedtime, Maxalt MLT 10 mg when needed (not often). For the past month soda has been tasting flat to me. I've stopped drinking it all together and switched to Gatorage and Lipton Green Tea. My throat always seems dry and my tongue seems dry even though to touch, it is not.

The most common side effects are constipation, mild nausea or vomiting, and mild dizziness, drowsiness, or lightheadedness. These problems usually go away as the body adjusts to the drug and do not require medical treatment.
All medications need to be monitored and all can have adverse side effects. It depends what the common side effects are. Topomax can cause gastritis but if caught in time it will go away. It not, as in a friend of mine, it can be dangerous. But he chose not to read the warning labels on the medication vials which doesn't make sense. I did and when I started on Topomax and got stomach pains I stopped it immediately.
As much as I want to lose weight, the list of side effects for Topomax scares me. My current med, Effexor/Lithium has side effects such as weight gain, constipation, tremor, etc. While I hate being fat, blurry vision ans brain fog don't appeal to me either. Of course there are also the risks of diabetes and heart disease from being overweight too. I'm having a very hard time deciding about this. Any advice is welcome.
You should stop the Enablex if you feel it is causing you to have the side effects you describe. Dr.
The 53 lean study participants were given injections of the drug or placebo for a month, while 47 of the 70 obese participants continued on leptin or placebo for 24 weeks. Itching and black-and-blue marks at the injection site were the worst side effects seen.
He prescribed Plaquenil for me. I am scared to death to take it because of the side effects. I am already loosing my vision in my left eye. He told me that I would have to see an opthamologist every 6 months to check for plaque buildups and ulcers that can form in the back of the eyes leading to vision problems or blindness. I need it because my Sjogren's Syndrome and Fibromyalgia have been out of control. I have a new diagnosis of osteoarthritis and moderate welling to my lower extrimities.

the more drugs you take you can't tell which is not functioning and which gives side effects. I am not aware of topamax yet is one of the anticonvulsants like the sodium divalporex. I can't understand why the pdoc put you on two of the same type. Again he put you before on the latter + olanzapine (antipsychotic) both are the worst drugs for weight gain. My view your pdoc isn't that efficient. Also I understood you are a female and the sodium div... will cause ovarian cysts.
In the prescribing info for Topamax, Dystonia was listed as a rare side effect. I finally convinced my neurologist that my problems were coming from the Topamax and he tapered me off and changed my medicine. As I took less Topamax my symptoms decreased and about 1 1/2 weeks after being completely off of it all symtoms were gone.
Hi, sorry for taking a long time to answer your post. Actually i do not remember if i searched the side effects of Lmictal on any site,,it is just i came across it in many forums and all of them agree that Lmictal affects short memory loss but not long memory Here are the links for these forums http://www.bipolarworld.net/Phelps/ph_2006/ph1419.htm http://bipolar.about.com/b/2003/06/29/does-lamictal-cause-memory-loss.htm http://www.depressionforums.
One of the side effects of topamax is weight loss and that might be why they have been giving it to people with PTC. My neuro told me that yes it is a antiseizure medication but it is also for people with chronic pain associated with illnesses like fibromyalgia and PTC and that is what I have chronic pain.
She checked her palm pilot for side effects and said there was not data showing shortness of breath as a side effect and ended up sending me home with a prescription for Effexor XR 150mg. I went home and typed in EFFEXOR and shortness of breath and thank God I did because there were many sites addressing this issue. I called my MHFNP back on Friday to try and advise her I saw this on the internet.
Geodon, Topamax and Abilify....all the side effects are alarming but don't cause weight gain. What should a patient do?
