I also take Topamax, and have for years. I know exactly what you mean about the tingling. It does get better. Mine did, and now I can only feel it a tiny bit if my feet are in the same position for a long time (i.e. computer chair rail). It definitely has a side effect of weight loss. In fact, some doctors prescribe it specifically for that reason. (In people who are overweight, and don't suffer from migraine.) I lost weight almost immediately.

He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. I am on my 2nd week of Topamax. Get ready for some very strange side effects. Your hands and feet and face will tingle and fall asleep. I have no appetite at all. I can go from breakfast to dinner of the next day and not be hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat. I'm forgetting things. I went to Wal Mart and forgot what i went there for. Many who have taken Topamax cannot tolerate it. The side effects often progress into painful nerve "zaps" and memory loss. My husband was on it for 3 months and had bizarre personality changes and suffered from severe depression until he stopped taking it. My advice would be to change to something else...

I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.

The side effects have been tolerable but I went from 25 to 50 very quick and the side effect were bad: Brain fog, no appetite, tingling, insomnia. I went from 50 to 75mg, 5 weeks later and 75 to 100mg 4 weeks later, working up slowly does help with the side effects. Over time I have found most of my side effects subside: I take it for nerve pain and complex migraines.

I started low on 25mg and ended up on 2 x 50mg daily. The early side effects do go away. I had tingling in my hands and feet and I did still get some nasty headaches (no longer migraines) in the initial stages. The cognitive side effects also went away after a couple of months. After about 3 months on Topamax and getting to my maximum dose, I was getting minor headaches and virtually no side effects.

What I found out is that topamax depletes the potassium in your body, If you like bananas eat one a day and if you are like me you can get an otc potassium you just need 1-2 a day and I would take them depending on how my hands and feet felt. It is better to just eat a banana unstead of taking supplements but otc potassium is inexpensive.

Hello, Topamax can cause itching and erythematous rash in some individuals.Although the main side effects of topamax are slower reflexes, trouble thinking or concentrating, tiredness, poor coordination, and dizziness,yet it has shown itchy skin in some individuals. I feel that if you are showing any allergic reaction to topamax,pls stop taking it and consult your doctor for a change in prescription.You can take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin for itching.

I took 100mg topamax for three years with no serious side effects and then all hell broke loose. All of the sudden I had serious cognitive lapses and ugh - diarrhea. Bad. I tried lowering the dosage, didn't help. I had to stop taking it all together. I am convinced it was the combination of Saphris and topamax that sent my system into a frenzy. I don't take either one now.

hello, anyone on topamax? I've been on it for about five weeks and its been great for my migraines but I've been having a lot of side effects! like tingling in my hand and feet and really bad heart burn every day! also get moody and cry. very bad fatigue too. will any of this go away???

I have a lot of co-workers at a call center who have also tried topamax but say its not usefull and hated the side effects so they stopped.

Hi there, I am currently Taking 200mg topamax a day for migraines have been for about 2 months now, stared on 25mg and built up to 200, but have Been on the 200 for 2 months.

H. It was very nice of Tuck to list the side effects but remember, those are POSSIBLE side effects and not everyone reacts to the drug in that way. The Pharm Companys have to list ALL possible effects, even if they happened once to a patient. This does not neccesarily what will happen to you. Like I said you might not have any at all. there are side effects like tingling, fatigue and soda tasting really bad. I do believe the Topamax calms the brain down. After all it is used to treat seizures as well as migraines. She never needed more than 25 mg a day. Good luck!
