topamax

Avatar f tn I am on my 2nd week of Topamax. Get ready for some very strange side effects. Your hands and feet and face will tingle and fall asleep. I have no appetite at all. I can go from breakfast to dinner of the next day and not be hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat. I'm forgetting things. I went to Wal Mart and forgot what i went there for. I am on it for migranes so im hoping i can stick it out because my headaches are unbearable. Good luck!
Avatar m tn It is too strong of a drug with too many side effects for migraines and can cause anorexia. Not good for a teen. I would definitely try something different, there are many other alternatives. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.
Avatar f tn I have been on 25mg of topamax for a few weeks for migraines. I decided to stop taking it. Migraines are worse and I can't sleep.how long after I stop taking to topamax until I can take Tylenol PM? My last dose was last night. Thanks!!
Avatar f tn I have a lot of co-workers at a call center who have also tried topamax but say its not usefull and hated the side effects so they stopped.
Avatar f tn Is anyone on here started taking or tried the drug Topamax for their migraines???
Avatar f tn Hi.....I have both migraines and depression. My neuro doc put me on Topamax (I take it daily) for migraine management and when I do get "breakthrough" migraines I take Maxalt. The Topamax has worked wonders!!! But it isn't without some nasty side effects. Initially it causes your feet, hands and face to tingle (that goes away)....but it plays hell with your memory (not everyone gets this, but I did). It takes away your appetite (at least it did for me).
Avatar f tn ( So the weight loss is one of the better side effects LOL. The biggest side effect for me was the hands and feet (and sometimes lips) tingling. Not all the time but especially in the beginning. Numbness too. They weren't bothersome enough for me to stop taking it, though. I hope it works for you.
Avatar n tn I take it for nerve pain and complex migraines. I did experience weight loss but not loss so far, but I do take daily vitamin and extra supplements plus making sure I drink Ensure and a V-8 everyday to keep myself health. I didn’t need to lose any weight. I also cut all alcohol out with the exception of the occasional glass of wine with we are out to dinner with friends…. (Mostly so I don’t look like a party pooper) and anything carbonated taste awful.
Avatar n tn Most of the side effects are dose related. Here is more information about the medication: http://www.drugs.com/topamax.html . Sometimes, dividing the dose into several doses throughout the day may help. Also taking the smallest dose you can take is best to avoid the side effects. Initially, many people have side effects, but after your body gets used to the med. it goes away (usually after a week or 2).
Avatar n tn I take it for nerve pain and complex migraines. Certain side effects have stayed: anything carbonated taste awful, tingling in hands and feet, small twitch in left eye for last week or so.
Avatar m tn hello, anyone on topamax? I've been on it for about five weeks and its been great for my migraines but I've been having a lot of side effects! like tingling in my hand and feet and really bad heart burn every day! also get moody and cry. very bad fatigue too. will any of this go away???
Avatar f tn Hope things are working out for you. Topamax either works for you or does not. I have had migraines (5 a week) for 13 years and I have been on Topamax for over six months now. I can honestly say it has some great points and some bad points. In the beginning, I had the side effects such as the "pins and needles", numbness, memory loss, etc. That of course was when I was gradually going through the stages of increasing my dosage keep in mind.
Avatar f tn My doctor says that there are more side effects at higher doses. Unfortunately, I have had a headache for the last 2 days. May be due to the weather, storms?
424862 tn?1203803456 But be aware of the side effects and look out for them some of the meds i have tried actually (2) had strong side effects that I called my doctor the next morning to give my something else. good luck i hope it works!!
Avatar f tn i have migraines and take topamax....it does relieve the headaches as a daily medication, just as long as they get the dosing correct. (and make sure you take it at the same time every day) i have noticed if i take it late then i tend to have the headaches the next day. you might see if they can put you on a medication in case you have a headache while on the topamax.
Avatar n tn so you take 50 mg topamax and were able to smoke without any weird side effects? Im wondering because my doctor recently put me on 50 mg topamax for migraines and I used to smoke all the time to relieve stress from work, but i've read horror stories online about mixing topamax and weed.
324184 tn?1308076203 If your daughter starts topamax, be sure to find a urologist. One of the major side effects of topamax is kidney stones. After taking it for my migraines for two years, I had kidney's full of stones. I have had three operations to rid myself of them and the surgery/recovery is very painful. The neurologist found out that I was in the hospital for a week ( the first time) and no kidding..yelled into the phone.. OH MY GOSH...ITS THE TOPAMAX!
Avatar f tn I never experienced nausea with Topamax but i did experience many other side effects. It definitely cleared the migraines the best. However, over time and with the increase dose of 200 mg eventually I became aphasic, unable to recall recent events, numbness in my extremities and eventually lost my job due to the neurological symtoms. Now i am on Inderal or propranolol which is a beta blocker and only 80 mg and it helps the headaches without the side effects. Talk to your doctor and suggest it.
Avatar n tn the LAST thing you want is morphine side-effects, which are extreme nausea and stomach upset and vomiting... hydromorphone has NONE of these side-effects, so it is much better for migraine treatment. it is also a billion times stronger so make sure they do NOT give you any more than 2mg as a starting dose... otherwise you might end up feeling worse than when you first went into the hospital... trust me, being high is NOT fun. all you want is relief from your symptoms...
1655289 tn?1326042889 It is know for causing cognitive deficits. Although if you have migraines it is good for that.
1103688 tn?1257894552 t have seizures (or migraines) anymore. I think if your neurologist increases the Topamax very slowly the side-effects can be minimized, especially the central nervous system ones, so hopefully you can take the 100mg/day needed to help prevent your migraines better. I tried Cafergot before Imitrex. The Cafergot made my stomach feel like I ate a dry sponge, then drank a large glass of water right afterwards. I took another one called Varapamil, which is a migraine preventive medication.
