Avatar f tn I am on my 2nd week of Topamax. Get ready for some very strange side effects. Your hands and feet and face will tingle and fall asleep. I have no appetite at all. I can go from breakfast to dinner of the next day and not be hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat. I'm forgetting things. I went to Wal Mart and forgot what i went there for. I am on it for migranes so im hoping i can stick it out because my headaches are unbearable. Good luck!
Avatar m tn topamax 50mg for ulnar nerve pain and cymbalta 30mg which he swtched form my aropax (paxil) which i had taken for 13 yrs without any adverse effects. The side effects were awful from these medications. Agitation , fast heart rate, insomnia and suicidal thoughts ( i thought i was depressed before!). Now it appears that i am left with a permanent tremor in my hands and head. I also get frequent muscle twitching. Its been 4 months and they havn't eased what's the go!!!!
Avatar f tn I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.
Avatar n tn Hello, Topamax can cause itching and erythematous rash in some individuals.Although the main side effects of topamax are slower reflexes, trouble thinking or concentrating, tiredness, poor coordination, and dizziness, yet it has shown itchy skin in some individuals. I feel that if you are showing any allergic reaction to topamax, pls stop taking it and consult your doctor for a change in prescription. You can take over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin for itching.
Avatar f tn Topamax can lower ur csf pressure. But it can also really work well as a headache preventative too. One key is to start at a very low dose and go up very slowly to minimize the side effects. I'm not saying that it is the right med for u, but to talk to ur doc. Ask about backing up and lowering the dose if u want to give it a real shot to help u.
Avatar n tn Most of the side effects are dose related. Here is more information about the medication: http://www.drugs.com/topamax.html . Sometimes, dividing the dose into several doses throughout the day may help. Also taking the smallest dose you can take is best to avoid the side effects. Initially, many people have side effects, but after your body gets used to the med. it goes away (usually after a week or 2).
Avatar f tn It sure helps to know when you are not alone and others have the same side effects. Topamax helps my migraines and the weight loss is a plus too but the memory is suffering when it comes to writing and speech...like spelling...sometimes I know the word to use but can not even think of the letters to look it up so I end up using a different word in it's place...very frustrating. Speaking is another story. Sometimes it just isn't worth it to talk at all.
Avatar m tn The side effects you are mentioning are not permanent. With as many medications as I give out on a daily basis, I have never seen someone experience a side effect from the first dose (exception of allergic reaction)- I think that maybe you are overly focused on the possible side effects and it has cause a "self-fulfilling prophecy"- our minds are powerful things, they can make us imagine some pretty convincing things- my advice: take the medication and let it work.
Avatar m tn It appears that complaints about hair loss are near the top of the list of side effects reported with extended prednisone use..... Something about it changes the hormone levels. the good news is it seems it is not a permanent problem - the hair recovers after the prednisone is stopped. I'm no medical expert, so as always please consult your doctor and make sure what is causing your problems.
Avatar m tn I assume the symptoms that have decreased are the physical shaking. That seems to point to Flecanide as the problem. That is a strong medication and it seems it couldn't hold you in normal sinus rhythm following the electrocardioversion (or was it a Flecanide cardioversion?). What does you doctor(s) recommend? Was there any discussion about trying another cardioversion or about ablation ?
1276940 tn?1564515084 t try Topamax before but what I know is numbness and tingling are some of Topamax side effects. It become less with time. Are numbness and tingling really bad? or u can handle it? Do you have any other side effects? How long to use it? Is Topamax useful as mood stabilizer and good for weight loss according to your experience?

Avatar f tn I have a lot of co-workers at a call center who have also tried topamax but say its not usefull and hated the side effects so they stopped.
2035835 tn?1336300786 My body adjusted to the side effects over time. But what it also did was prevent my body from sweating, and I still feel cold all the time. Also side effects from the medications. I didn't lose any weight unfortunately, I was kinda hoping for one good perk out of dealing with all the tingling. sometimes the sensation was so strong it was painful.
237152 tn?1206651036 I went to a pain management clinic on Tues. morning and the Dr. prescribed Topamax to relax the nerves in my lower back. I did minimal research on this drug and took it as prescribed before bed on Tuesday night. Ever since I have been VERY lethargic, in a fog, and just not feeling right at all. I haven't taken it again, but was wondering if this is normal? I have been researching this drug and finding more negatives than positives about it. The Dr.
Avatar m tn )I was only on it for 10 days, but had terrible side effects. Since stopping the MEDs. the side effects are crazy! I feel all of this anxiety and I cannot sleep, I have bizarre thoughts and zero appetite. This has been going on since I stopped 2 days ago. 1888842 tn?1320993159 I've been suffereing from migraines since I was 17, and i'm 26 now. I've been to several doctors (locally) and even made a trip to massachusetts to see a neurologist. I've taken every anti depressant under the tuscan sun, and have had no luck.Over the past 3 years my migraines have become a daily routine. My most recent DR. has perscribed me 200mg of topamax, and although I have had some relief, the side effects have made me completely out of it, and almost dead feeling.
Avatar f tn I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.
Avatar f tn If you are strongly against taking medication such as the topamax, you should alert your doctor to that fact, as they will believe that you are taking it as instructed and will not be able to help you as you need.
Avatar f tn Topamax has a few side effects that are not the greatest (makes me a little tired, reduces my sex drive, thinning hair, very expensive) but for it to HELP tame the beast inside me its been worth it. Are there any long term side effects I should be aware of? I have tried to go down in dose but my cravings and desire to purge comes back.
Avatar f tn Jode, Your dosage is on the light side. My wife tapered off Topamax but her symptoms and triggers are different then most. I'd suggest that maybe keep trying it until you get leveled off for a little while at 75mg then if you don't notice any changes then you might want to ask your Doctor to taper off. Be well and God Bless.
