Avatar m tn Yes, this would not be regarded as a usual side effect of this medicine. Relative to cognitive functioning (e.g., memory), there is no assurance you would return to baseline. But the only way to know is to try if your prescribing physician thinks it is prudent. Balancing the 'pros' and 'cons' is always a challenge with medications.
Avatar f tn I'm back with another question :-). DS is 11.5 yo, recently diagnosed. He was put on topamax and imitrex for migraines which are supposedly unrelated and are what sent us to the neurologist in the first place. Migraines continue, some tingling in hands and feet, which is likely the topamax. However, today he had a migraine (been on topamax just over three weeks). Once it wore off I took him to school.
Avatar f tn I am on my 2nd week of Topamax. Get ready for some very strange side effects. Your hands and feet and face will tingle and fall asleep. I have no appetite at all. I can go from breakfast to dinner of the next day and not be hungry at all. I have to force myself to eat. I'm forgetting things. I went to Wal Mart and forgot what i went there for. I am on it for migranes so im hoping i can stick it out because my headaches are unbearable. Good luck!
1276940 tn?1564515084 t try Topamax before but what I know is numbness and tingling are some of Topamax side effects. It become less with time. Are numbness and tingling really bad? or u can handle it? Do you have any other side effects? How long to use it? Is Topamax useful as mood stabilizer and good for weight loss according to your experience?
Avatar n tn Most of the side effects are dose related. Here is more information about the medication: http://www.drugs.com/topamax.html . Sometimes, dividing the dose into several doses throughout the day may help. Also taking the smallest dose you can take is best to avoid the side effects. Initially, many people have side effects, but after your body gets used to the med. it goes away (usually after a week or 2).
2035835 tn?1336300786 I have been on Topomax 200mgs for 2 months now and the side effect that bothers me the most is the tingling in my feet. It happends about the same time everyday and night. Is this ever going to go away??? I told my doctor but he really didn't respond much he just said thats just a side effect.
Avatar f tn The side effects are a bit of a pain at first but they do go away. And I will tell you the migraines were worse then the side effects by far. Good luck to you...
Avatar f tn m currently on my second attempt of topamax for about a year now (18-19 years old), was on Topamax previously before but had serious side effects which my doctor said would go away after long term use but i refused to take it and just took otc migraine med, now on my second attempt and my side effects are much more less, no weight loss though more like weight gain, i do still have speech stuttering, and forgetfulness which makes it hard to remember to take my topamax and still have migraines, i
Avatar f tn I started low on 25mg and ended up on 2 x 50mg daily. The early side effects do go away. I had tingling in my hands and feet and I did still get some nasty headaches (no longer migraines) in the initial stages. The cognitive side effects also went away after a couple of months. After about 3 months on Topamax and getting to my maximum dose, I was getting minor headaches and virtually no side effects.
1512520 tn?1290258130 I am convinced it is from the Topamax since I have been on strong cold meds from the doctor for 2 weeks, I am giving it another few days and may go down to 75 mgs by cutting one of my 50 mg pills in half...can't afford to go see my psychiatrist again to get his advice so I m really self medicating right now.
Avatar m tn Almost hallucinating - looking at the ground and seeing what looked like a sinking quicksand hole, etc. And the side effects did not go away over a couple months of trying so I had to go on something else. My metabolism is very messed up (insulin resistance, etc) and it is very difficult to lose weight, but I did with Topamax. Just watch out for the side effects, they can be quite serious.

Avatar n tn However the tremors are still there as well as extreme sweating, and muscle tightness. (I have been on this dose for approximately 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn Are there any long term side effects I should be aware of? I have tried to go down in dose but my cravings and desire to purge comes back.
Avatar m tn I would ask for an alternative medicine. Topamax causes hair loss which I have experienced first hand. I found out that that is one of the main side effects and wish I hadn't taken it. I would look on the internet for medications that treat migraines and look at all of the side effects. I have found I have to be proactive and do my research and ask the doctor about a specific medication.

681148 tn?1437661591 Ohhh yeah... the bad metallic taste... I forgot about that side-effect! I had that too but only for a few weeks when I first started and then it went away. A friend of mine who takes it also says that it "makes food taste bad"... so, not a metallic taste in her mouth, just that it makes some foods taste bad. Actually, that was more like the side-effect that I had...
Avatar f tn I am on topamax now and some side effects are hard to deal with. my dr is decreasing my dosage. my side effects are that my arms and legs are numb and tingling like pins and needles and I am very tired I have diahreea alot. you have to stay in contact with your doc while on the medication.
778037 tn?1377986200 Can increasing Topamax cause a delayed side effect? A month and a half ago, I was put on increased dosage of Topamax. However, I am now and have been for the past week experiencing "pins and needles" in my feet, legs, arms and hands. Every post I read online suggested this side effect kicked in with introduction or increase of the medication, and not a month or more later. I told my neuro's medical assistant (I needed to call anyway) and he said she would let the doc know.
