Common Questions and Answers about Taking synthroid for weight loss

synthroid

Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
1891163 tn?1321119046 I said no to the Zoloft and told him I was going to stop taking the Synthroid. I just quit taking it last week, so I will have to let you know how it goes as time goes on. My sister also takes Synthroid, a very high dose since her thyroid was killed due to over activity. She also has major "panic attacks". Not exactly sure when hers started, but I'm wondering if it's the Synthroid for her as well. Anyone know how long it will take to get completly out of my system?
Avatar f tn d never recommend phentermine, even though it does work for weight loss. The problem is that when people stop taking it, they almost always gain back everything they lost, plus some.
Avatar n tn Synthroid is a "Pregnancy Category A." Which is safer than Tylenol (which is a "B"). But you should always confirm all medications with your doctor. Are you on Synthroid for thyroid issues or weight loss? He'd probably keep you on for thyroid problems, but with pregnancy, weight loss isn't safe.
474314 tn?1219345522 I am having my thyroid out (TT) soon. Has anyone who has had this procedure lost weight after the surgery and synthroid medication or am I in for more weight gain? Sheri Should I schedule Lap Band Surgery at the same time as my TT?
Avatar n tn t had much change except for the muscle cramps have reduced. My question is though, how does taking synthroid effect your periods. I started taking synthroid on May 2 and was suppose to have a period around the 19th of May but never did and here it is June 9th. The strange thing is that periodically I feel like I am going to start, (symptoms that I usually get before I do) but I guess I just wish I knew if this was normal or not.
Avatar n tn I think last year my weight was 59kg. So what could be the reason for my weight loss? I walk everyday, my diet is good and healthy, my times for eating meals are very much on time, I am a strict vegetarian, milk, once a week tofu are the main sources of protiens. There are almonds, veggies, and fruits are included in my diet. Though my own business needs a lot of physical work too, but has been for 10 years. So what is the reason for my weight loss. I am really worried. I dont feel tired.
Avatar f tn Have been taking Synthroid for 10 years and wanted to try a more nature thyroid treatment, so had my M,D. switch me to Armour thyroid but within a few months there was a national shortage, so I was switched back to Synthroid. I recently had my Meridian testing done (by naturopath) and found that I could probably benefit from taking both together. I don't feel that I am converting the T-4 into T-3. I am unable to loss weight or increase my energy level. I currently take .
557907 tn?1215882569 Hey, is anyone here taking (or has taken) a product called "Thyromine" for weight loss? If so, please tell me how it worked or didn't for you!
Avatar n tn I have been taking Levo (Synthroid) for about two months. My weight went from 118 to 127 within a few short weeks. I fight weight gain every single day. I find I have to exercise more and eat less in order to keep from gaining weight daily. After doing research, I have found that I am not alone with this side effect. There are some who have success with Synthroid, but I have found many more who have had issues.
Avatar f tn s why that one number of thyroid stimulating hormone was so high- the pituitary was trying to stimulate your thyroid gland to emit the hormones your body needs for a healthy metabolism. Since you are taking synthroid (synthetic thyroid hormone), your TSH is responding in a way one would hope, by not turning up the thermostat so high, so to speak, to get the thyroid to do its job.
Avatar n tn Your levels being stable can affect your weight loss (if you have any). I found I didnt start to lose weight until my levels were stable. Any amount of exercise I did ...did absolutely ZILCH. Except make me more tired than I already was. In time when levels stabalise...so too does the weight. But dont forget that the weight BEFORE treatment is HYPER/HYPO weight and if you was Hyper...then you may not get back to that weight. I gained 16kgs (hyper) and weighed 71kgs....I now weight 65kgs.
Avatar m tn m sure there are plenty of people who just take it and wait for the weight loss. I am on a combo of T3 and Synthroid and I have adjusted till my levels all evened out in labs. I am at my ideal dose now. Still gaining, though I am reading a ton of info on fluid retention and may try to focus on that. I have read contless stories of health nuts on Syntroid who work out, do Yoga etc, and can't lose weight. I wonder..
Avatar n tn My daughter has been diagnosed hypo for 2 years. She is taking 90mg of Armour....continued to fight her weight. She was then diagnosed with PCOS and is now also on 50mg sprinolactone and 1500mg of metformin. Weight loss is finally possible...has loss 13 lbs in about 2 months. Don't give up!!!!
Avatar m tn I'm using Synthroid for weight loss and muscle growth whle training. Does anyone know - is it safe to buy Synthroid online in places like this? Too cheap and no prescription needed, so I'm not sure.
Avatar n tn i am confused if i am on 50mgs a day of synthroid for low or high but since ive been taking them, ive had to have my heart palp meds and my b/p meds switched...ive gotten insomnia and anxiety more so than usual. i am past menopause, and something is making my life not up to snuff. i try taking a half every so often thinking it might make my day go better.
Avatar f tn my thyroid levels are normal now and then taking synthroid causing weight loss and once i stop the medication i will no longer lose weight? One more question: Will i get back to my normal weight once the thyroid levels are normal without medcation?
Avatar m tn My wife was diagnised as hypothyroid several years ago, although she had no antibodies. She started taking 75 MCG of Synthroid, and has been taking it ever since. Despite irregular periods, she was able to get pregnant and he had a healthy baby (she continued the synthroid thruogh pregnancy and her levels were normal). However, 14 months after the baby was born she is exhibiting many sympoms of HYPERthyroidism -- sleeplessness, weight loss, and significant anxiety.
Avatar n tn Symptoms of overmedication could include inability to sleep, rapid weight loss, diarrhea, rapid weight loss, feeling overheated.
Avatar n tn The more fibre in the foods you choose the bigger the weight loss. You can fill up on veggies for 0 points and get that fibre in. Good luck.

Avatar f tn Now, new endo says RAI is what she would’ve advised originally...as I’m going to most likely end up hypO and taking synthroid/levo for the rest of my life. Ugh. Anyone manage to get their weight back under control after RAI? Or on synthroid? I’m dreading this! I’m scared of RAI.
