synthroid

379229 tn?1208639419 This week I had a UTI, and they put me on Nitrofur, and I was put on Premarin and a new brand of synthroid. I have had muscle aches, twitching and numbness and tingling in the legs, and sometimes arms and then two days ago, the weirdest foggiest feeling in my head. Flu like symptoms, and lack of sleep. And I have been kind of anxious and depressed. And I am not normally that way. I stopped the Premarin on Wed, and the Nitrofur on Thursday. Am wondering now about the synthroid.
456333 tn?1206973213 I just wanted to post my experience over the last couple of weeks with generic and brand (synthroid) medicines. Alot of you posted to me early on about trying a different brand and you were right! I started out on 50mcg generic levo. My doctor wrote levothyroxine and didn't specify a brand on the rx.
Avatar n tn Levothyroxine is generic. Synthroid is a name brand of the same drug. It is actually prefered by most Endo's, because it is a little more reliable from batch to batch. It is made with different fillers than what you have been used to with the Levo. Some people do not get along with it. Lactose or something is in it. It's possible you're allergic to the inert ingredients of the Synthroid.
Avatar m tn It is possible, Thyroid meds are funny, what works well for one does not work well for others, I was on (Generic) Levothyroxine for six months and my labs did not budge, then went to Synthroid (brand Name) and had better sucess, my endo claimed that generics were not as consistant as name brand. Pharmacy said they are the same? So the change may have made a difference, some times the fillers they use can cause issues also.
Avatar n tn My question concerns Synthroid. On Dec 04, 2006 at 12:00AM, Mark Lupo, M.D. said in answer to a question: "Levoxyl is another brand -- there is no advantage to Synthroid. Protecting the brand has advantages over generic regarding consistency of levels. the generic is levothyroxine". Huh? What on earth does that answer mean? "Protecting"? "consistency of levels?
7991152 tn?1396061810 All Synthroid is levothyroxine sodium, but not all levothyroxine sodium is Synthroid. There are several "brands" of levothyroxine sodium... Synthroid and Levoxyl are the 2 main ones. Then there are also several manufacturers of generic levothyroxine sodium. All manufacturers are allowed a certain "tolerance", meaning their products can vary by a certain amount. Some argue that generics are not as good as brand names.
535882 tn?1396576685 0) never came down, When I started being treated by an Endo he explained that Levothyroxine ( A Generic) was not as consistant as a Name Brand (Synthroid) he put me on Synthroid 100 mg and within 6 weeks my Tsh dropped to 0.078, now I am on 75 mg and due back at the end of May for another blood work. Although everyone is different, some do better on some drugs and some do not.
404389 tn?1217030704 I was told to never go with a generic brand. I take Synthroid, but at one point I switched to Levoxyl. The Levoxyl seemed to do NOTHING. Different brands may not work as well, or have adverse effects. You should stay with the same medicine you are taking.
Avatar f tn Synthroid is the brand name and is used more frenquently in thyroid patients. Generic formula brand Levo is not as well balanced and can have flexibility with levels of meds and fillers that are added. It is like buying Campbell's chicken soup - it tastes different than the store brand and different store brands taste different than others. Same here. Stick to Campbell's and SYnthroid!! PAy the extra money - it's worth it.
Avatar n tn Classification - T-4 Contraindications - Administration (FDA) has determined that generic levothyroxine and brand-name Synthroid and Levoxyl are equivalent. The FDA requires all drugs—both brand-names and their generic counterparts—to be proven safe and effective. Since generics use the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body as their brand-name counterparts, they also have the same risks and benefits.
87651 tn?1259602403 He also recommended that I do a name brand (like Synthroid) rather than a Generic. Of course I still have my thyroid so what the heck do I know?
1671473 tn?1450592437 my old brand of medication synthroid are available here. so maybe im gonna choose synthroid. i will inform if i started synthroid.
Avatar f tn Most doctors will want their patients on the brand name Synthroid, but insurance companies will want their customers on the generic levothyroxine, because it's a lot cheaper... The only difference between the brand name and the generics are the fillers and binders used in the pills, since they all use the same active ingredient - levothyroxine.
Avatar m tn I am alternating my dose 88 synthroid one day and 75 the next. Is it ok if the 88 is brand name synthroid and the 75 is generic?
Avatar n tn In the United States, brand names include Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Tirosint and Unithroid; Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar f tn for brand over generic. My doctor says that no endocrinologist will prescribe anything but the brand name. I've been researching on the internet and find a lot of conflicting views. Is there anyone out there with cancer that takes the generic? Any problems with the generic when used for cancer?
Avatar f tn An interesting question. Go to the FDA site and research Synthroid. "Synthroid" is not necessarily "synthroid". By that I mean, for various reasons the brand name is the same, however the composition has changed several times. Also look up Levoxyl.
Avatar f tn while each manufacturer uses different fillers/binders, the levothyroxine is the same in each and each manufacturer has to maintain the same standards as the brand name manufacturers do. In fact there have been more recalls of synthroid, than of the generics. Many of us do well on generic thyroid meds. I actually did better on generic than I did on synthroid.
Avatar n tn I take synthroid and was wondering if the generic is just as good? Someone told me to never take the generic so I pay extra for the name brand. TIA!
Avatar n tn My Endo is very specific about taking the brand name drug (Synthroid in my case). He says that the generic drugs vary and you could literally be getting a different drug every month, making it very difficult to get regulated. I've been on Synthroid for four weeks and keep looking to feel different in any way (ie: negative symptoms) and I don't. I feel like me and it's only our first shot at the dose (125)!
Avatar n tn authrjenn posted Does anyone have trouble with Synthroid. I provided links and such to look into that. Also visit about.com and type a search....... many many articles for research.
