Synthroid and breastfeeding

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and breastfeeding

synthroid

Avatar f tn Anyhow, I recently went to see an endocronologist and one of the things he told me was that I would have to stop taking my pre-natal pill because it counter-acts the synthroid. This is very bothersome to me because I am breastfeeding and the vitamin is extremely important for me and my baby. He also stated that the vitamin was actually dangerous for my baby and I.
Avatar n tn I am 7 months post-partum and am breastfeeding. I am working at a pretty stressful job part-time (veterinarian) and probably not eating as much as I should. My TSH was actually high (10, unsure of the units) and fT4 was 0.97. My doctor could not feel a goiter. My doctor wants to start Synthroid, but I am worried that I will actually lose more weight if I do. Instead, should we be doing more investigation as to why the TSH is elevated? I was thinking a CBC, full blood panel, etc.
Avatar n tn Make sure your OB knows and understands that you are breastfeeding and that you want to take it a little slow b/c going the other direction will also have an affect on your milk. If you don't mind my asking - what makes you feel like your supply is low? Being 6 weeks your body is still figuring out it's whole supply/demand thing.
Avatar n tn well i was on synthroid due to hypo but when the tsh came back suppressed they pulled me off all my meds. i then went and saw a new doctor and she is the one that ordered all of these new ones. i am still waiting to see her about this.
Avatar n tn I can vouch for the anxiety and grouchiness part for sure, yeah, that's hypo all right -- though apparently hyper can do the same dang thing. I get a sort of all-body soreness when I'm hypo, too, and a weird middle-of-the-back pain that makes it hard to move around easily. Not the same as your describing, but I can certainly sympathize. Cytomel, as I understand it, is T3 hormone (Synthroid's T4) and is sometimes prescribed along with Synthroid.
Avatar f tn I am so moody that I cannot control my temper sometimes and snap easily on my loved ones, then immediately feel so guilty I want to cry (and often do) I am breastfeeding my son exclusively and have not lost a pound since my original weight loss in the first month postpartum. I was 174lbs before I gave birth and have stayed 156lbs since then (I am not 5 months postpartum). I could almost starve myself and not lose an ounce.
Avatar n tn i weighed 182 right b4 her birth (10 lbs, 3oz,a week early, i might add) and was 172 for a year after her birth despite breastfeeding for 9 mos. HELLO? ANY DOCTOR HOME? lol i was so tired, and now seperated, and doing it all myself, i didn't have time to think my thyroid was messed up again. but after her 1st birthday i stared losing weight and feeling better. read the post about armor....since u r sensitive to meds. i read it and have second thoughts about asking for it.
Avatar n tn Is there anything I should know about how to take my Synthroid, 75 mcg and Zoloft, 150? I would like to know if I should take them separately and if so, how many hours apart?
Avatar m tn I am on Armour and I am one of the ones who didn't benefit from Synthroid - you are very lucky your found Synthroid to work best for you - it is the thyroid drug of choice and many doctors will not continue Armour if you need to change to someone else. Go back to what works - and the question is still ot there - Why did you try it if Synthroid was working?
Avatar f tn I am 28 yo female, I had my thyroid removed 10 years ago due to non cancerous nodules growing on it. I've been on synthroid since I was 11 yo. Everything was fine until I went off birth control pills. All of a sudden I had a hard time tolerating my 137 mcg dose of synthroid. I switched to armour thyroid, but couldn't tolerate any more than 60 mg. I felt great on just 60 mg, however my TSH shot up from 1 to almost 8.
1070570 tn?1283436213 For those taking synthroid AND cytomel, Please list the dosages you take of each and at what time throughout the day. Also please list any experiences -good or bad- you've had with this combination. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I am strictly taking the cyomtel and was told to stop the Synthroid. Iam so cold and tired, I just want to feel normal, it is affecting my life!! 37 years old with two children and also was diagnosed with endometrosis (not sure If that makes any difference). Please help!!
Avatar n tn I had this cough since 1989 when I started on synthroid and can't figure it out. I was wondering if it could be the synthroid. I just typed this site in and I am surprised and now do believe it can be the synthroid. No one can figure out the cough. Did anyone ever figure it out if the cough is from the synthroid???
1070570 tn?1283436213 have been told I have a conversion issue due to a high RT3 level in April (352)- don't convert T4 to T3 optimally, instead it converts to RT3 which cancels out the T3 that's trying to get into my cells. That's why I was wondering if increasing the synthroid was just gonna increase my RT3 and make me feel worse.
1816154 tn?1463430018 Have Any of you ladies breastfed and got pregnant after 13 months of breastfeeding without a period? Or did you not get pregnant until you stopped breastfeeding and got a period?
Avatar m tn Hi...I am on Nexium and synthroid....can I take them together in the morning and hour before breakfast? I am supposed to take them both in AM. Thanks....
Avatar n tn And, on top of everything else, I feel like crap. Even though my synthroid levels are normal. My muscles and bones ache, and I am weak and tired all the time.
1102845 tn?1285493058 The only thyroid option is to consider combined T4 (synthroid) and T3 (cytomel) - in this case reducing synthroid to 75 and adding 5mcg of cytomel in the am along w/ the synthroid.
Avatar n tn I did email them about the bleeding and they said it could be Synthroid and told me to take a 1/2 dose, which I have, but nothing has changed. I really don't think it's Synthroid as everything I have read says that it takes a while for Synthroid to start "helping" and it takes a few months for it to affect your menstrual cycle, so I really wouldn't suspect it to make any difference less than a week after starting it. Anybody has any ideas? Thanks.
200220 tn?1361951554 It was my psychiatrist that told me to do this. He also put me on the gingko, and fish oil. I am trying the split synthroid. I take it 7 and 2. I don't know why he did that . He is the one who put me on the synthroid in the first place. I was on the generic and he changed it and it was like night and day for me. I do trust him as he has helped me more than my endo. He seems to know alot about thryoid and mental stuff.
Avatar m tn Recent studies have demonstrated the short- and long-term benefits of breastfeeding both for mothers and children. Breastfeeding, especially if exclusive and prolonged, leads to significant reduction in hospitalization rates for gastroenteritis, respiratory infections, and sepsis in the early months of life[18]. The benefits for low-resource countries are even greater because breastfeeding is related to better infant and childhood survival[19].
Avatar f tn I have a good friend who takes metformin with synthroid, but he's diabetic and needs it. He's lost a ton of weight which makes me ssoo jealous, but I'm not diabetic so it won't be good for me - besides my doctor would never prescribe it for me.
