Synthroid and insulin

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and insulin

synthroid

Avatar n tn Here's my problem: I have Hashimoto's disease and was on synthroid. But was constantly tired, fatigued, not able to lose weight, etc. I switched doctors and they said that because levels are low, I'm producing too much TSH so they suggested I go off of synthroid. Way too much TSH could be causing my tiredness and symptoms. Also at the same time, they discovered that my insulin is on the high side of normal.
Avatar m tn I have a very enlarged buffalo hump due to insulin resistance. My insulin is normal (and it can be with this condition) but i have many obvious insulin resistance symptoms. I have extensively ruled out Cushing's disease just to be sure. Two medical reasons why fat will be deposited on the back of the neck - insulin (insulin resistance to diabetes) and elevated cortisol (stress hormone).
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response. She is on an insulin pump, synthroid, and vitamin d. Are there any weight-loss dietary guidelines for diabetics on the internet that she could access (or a recommended book) before visiting her MD, to be better prepared for her visit?
903476 tn?1242237037 Normal insulin levels are about 20mg a day to regulate blood sugars I produce 570mg a day which is more then 400times the healthy amount. But my blood sugar levels are always perfectly normal I've had this for more then 10 years and I've been on the metformin before. It's called insulin resistance which means my body has become resistant to insulin so my body keeps making more because it doesn't recognize it. If gone untreated for a long time it can become type 2 diabetes.
Avatar f tn If we just keep adding to it, and never use it, we end up over weight and eventually with too much insulin or our cells are insulin resistant or our pancreas can't produce enough insulin (at which point we become diabetic). Cholesterol can be another of those lifestyle (diet/exercise) issues and by watching what/how much we eat and getting plenty of exercise, we can bring it back into control.
Avatar m tn I asked my doctor about it and he said that my nonfasting serum insulin was normal. I requested the 2hr GTT w/insulin check. He felt it was a waste of my time to get this test, but gave me the order to get it done anyway. I did that today. What would indicate insulin resistance with this test? I am considering switching doctors because I am not sure if the doc I am seeing is right for me. Thanks for your help. Most recent labs: November (while on .
Avatar m tn Now I notice symptoms right away but its taken along time. I started at 24 and am 34 now and up to 200 mcg synthroid. When my tsh levels are above a 3 I get symptoms, weight gain, exaustion, muscle aches, depression, skin and hair changes, freezing all the time. All I can say is give it a try- it wont regulate itself. 25mcg is a tiny dose you might need more eventually..but you might be surprised.
Avatar n tn I take Synthroid .1 and 5mcg Cytomel every day for hypothyroidism. I have been taking them together in the morning an hour before any other medications, foods and 6 hours before any iron, calcium, or zinc. Should the Synthroid be taken by itself completely? I can take the Cytomel with breakfast and other meds later in the day, but wondered if taking the Cytomel at the exact same time as the Synthroid was somehow lowering the effectiveness/absorbtion of the Synthroid.
Avatar n tn I have had Hypothyroidism for 25 years. For at least the last 8 years or so my TSH has been 0.01. My last labs came in as follows: TSH 0.01 reference range 0.34 - 5.60 (low) Free T4 1.55 reference range 0.63 - 1.36 (high) Free T3 3.89 reference range 2.50 - 3.90 I have never had thyroid surgery. I am not taking vitamins. I have been overweight my entire life and although I eat healthy & exercise I struggle to maintain my weight. I am a 55 year old female.
Avatar f tn I read that it can affect my TSH levels, could possibly raise them higher. I am also insulin resistant now and I need to know how taking the Metformin is going to affect this as a whole.
Avatar m tn but always normal t3 and t4 levels and normal thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobin antibodies...I was put on various..levels of synthroid took that for about two and a half years and TSH was normalized but never low than 3.10...I had my first ultrasound in nov 2011 which revealed multiple subcentimeter thyroid nodules up to 0.5 mm in size...after that I was put off the synthroid and my TSH has been testing normal ever since...
Avatar n tn Pharmacologic dosages of chromium (200 mcg/day or more for adults) may potentiate the hypoglycemic effect of insulin and oral antidiabetic agents. Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels.
1346429 tn?1303874854 When I found out I was pg they took me off all my meds except insulin, synthroid, and oc the prenatal vitamin. I can no longer take my heart meds for high blood pressure and irregular hb; topomax for migraines; metaphormin; and a few others. Which I quit taking some of my meds before pregnancy because I did a lifestyle change in which it helped enough that I could quit taking the extra meds. As far as C-section...
Avatar f tn s over 15 years and levels prior to surgery were fine even if I was freezing, swollen face and steady weight gain. I asked pcp and endo to try me on natural thyroids and off synthetic and neither of them would because on 112mcg of synthroid my tsh level was 1, like perfect score. Pcp said at the time that the dosage varied too much and wouldn't try other options. I have a lot of health problems and was told by pcp, neurologist, and endocrinologist to pursue weight loss surgery.
Avatar n tn Why did they put you on armour after being on synthroid for so long? I had real problems with the armour and went very hyper on it. I went back to the synthroid. I am still trying to adjust the dose after being on it for four months. I hope they started you off on a small dose of the armour.
Avatar f tn I did read on another forum that insulin resistance is associated with being hypo and to go on a low glycemic diet with minimal carbs. That is my next step in my weight loss journey. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn Hi - I am looking for any feedback from others on how they are feeling having Hypothrodism/Hashimotos, even though you are being treated for it. I have been on both synthroid and tirosint. I was diagnosed about 9 yrs ago. I switched to Tirosint for the past two years, and have been doing well on it. The only problem I seem to notice is the brain fogginess that really bothers me. It has become really embarrassing lately and seems to be getting worse.
Avatar n tn Maybe I'm missing something, but is there a problem to take synthroid. I have Hashimoto's and have been taking synthroid for the last 10 years. I fell horrible when my dose is too low, so couldn't imagine life without it. It is checked on a regular basis through my endo.
Avatar n tn My son was diagnosed with T-1 diabetes in October '07. He is a professional athlete and had taken a creatine supplement with an insulin booster. After 2 weeks of taking it, he got very sick, all the classic symptoms of diabetes. Blood tests revealed that he had T-1 diabetes. After 3 months of strict diet and exercise and 10-15 units of Levimir daily, he has been able to go 10 days now without insulin while averaging 93 BSL.
649848 tn?1534633700 54 in June 2008 and I was put on 100 mcg synthroid daily. In mid Sep 2008, my TSH was again tested and result was 0.03 and my synthroid was dropped to 88 mcg daily. For well over a year, I have been on a diet (approx 1000-1200 calories/day) focusing on vegetables, fruits and whole grains. I work out for at least 30 minutes/day, as well as having a job which requires a large amount of exercise (mostly walking).
Avatar f tn I have hypothryoid disease ( all new to me ) and my doctor has perscribed glucophage to me to helped with irreglar menstral cycles.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis 3/2008 and have been taking 50mg of Synthroid since then. I have always had times when I would shake and become nauseated if I didn't eat my meals regularly, but a little OJ would clear it right up. I am finding more and more that I suffer from nausea and tremors in my hands after I eat anything.
1418727 tn?1282487078 Hello, me and my husband have been trying to conceive for 2 years. we have been checked and we have absolutely nothing worng with us. Last week I was tld I had Hashimoto's and my anti TPO abs were really high >1300IU/ml. I've read in this website, and others, that that can cause infertility, or implantation failure. I am scared since I just want to be able to carry my own baby and it seem at this point that it might be impossible.
903476 tn?1242237037 the next day my cortisol and ASTH are not even detectable and my prolactin levels are sky high then by the next blood tests everything is back to normal light nothing it wrong My TSH and T3 and T4 levels never change no matter how low or high they change my Synthroid dose to and lastly my Insulin levels are around 720 with a normal fasting glucose.
Avatar m tn The lab tests include plasma glucose level (fasting, random, and oral glucose tolerance test), fasting insulin level, lipid profile (cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides). I used to wheeze badly and the doc diagnosed asthma. The wheezing improved dramatically when i corrected my magnesium deficiency. "Magnesium deficits and increased urinary magnesium excretion can occur in people with insulin resistance and/or type 2 diabetes [24,25].
