Avatar f tn s over 15 years and levels prior to surgery were fine even if I was freezing, swollen face and steady weight gain. I asked pcp and endo to try me on natural thyroids and off synthetic and neither of them would because on 112mcg of synthroid my tsh level was 1, like perfect score. Pcp said at the time that the dosage varied too much and wouldn't try other options. I have a lot of health problems and was told by pcp, neurologist, and endocrinologist to pursue weight loss surgery.
Avatar n tn My TSH was at 1.4 in feb. and something else was 0.434 . I am type 2 and on 35 units of Lantus and sliding scale of novolog.
Avatar m tn Are these two drugs compatable levothyroxine and sertraline hcl? Does your thyroid control your blood sugar?
1435317 tn?1283599577 i was training for a marathon tht week, and on the night before my blood test, was the actual marathon (2 hours long), i came home and only had 3-4 hours of sleep, then i had to wake up and get my blood test done at 9 am. Avatar n tn By mid-June I gained another 2lbs, and my doctor took me off the Levothyroxine. I am seeing a nutritionist, still on the Phen-phen, and a daily Vitamin B shots. By July 23rd, gained 2.4 lbs; no longer on Levothyroxine, still seeing the nutritionists and I am back to being extremely fatigue, lightheaded, chronic itchness, and not focused(it seems as my brain and mouth are at a disconnect). My life has been turned outside down.
5789562 tn?1374459029 So my latest blood work revealed that I need a dose change and that I'm insulin resistant. I am now taking 200mg of levothyroxine for hypothyroidism and 40mg of atorvastatin for cholesterol and fatty liver. I also take fish oil, multivitamin, D3, allegra, and baby aspirin. My medical provider is focusing on my thyroid before tackling everything else. I should also mention that my mother has non alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, dementia, diverticulitis, and myopathy.
Avatar m tn I just realized I didn't really answer your question did I? You don't really have to be "worried", but you will have to take steps to try to lose some of the weight, as that will help your heart issue... That's where the question about diabetes/insulin resistance comes in... Even if you don't have diabetes or have insulin resistance, talk to your doctor about trying a diabetic type diet that will help lose weight easier.

Avatar f tn Right now, I am taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo to regulate testosterone, Metformin for Insulin resistance and levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism. With that said, I have never had a thyroid ultrasound, and have had a hard, fixed right supraclavicular lymph node for about 8 months. It is about the size of a pea, and I have been told that it is not considered enlarged. All the doctor's I have seen (pcp, endo, gastroentorologist), have said they will keep an eye on it.
Avatar n tn Drugs and insulin do not mix you can get abnormal blood glucose readings. I know after type 1 for 30 years. Seizures are actually a good response to low blood sugar in sleep state they can save your life. Another thing don't ever trust the emt blood sugar testing equipment it is the worst I've ever seen in most cases. Watch her close and check her blood glucose mid sleep around 1:30 2:00 this is when most problems occur. Just to get a grip on what is goin on.
Avatar f tn 0 and I was 3.4) and my endo increased my dose to 100 mcg -but he wrote the script for Levothyroxine instead of Synthroid. I didn't think it a big deal because the Levo is just the generic for Synthroid, so I began taking it. It was like I wasn't taking any thyroid meds at all for about 1 1/2 weeks. I couldn't believe how cr@ppy, old, and depressed I felt. I was about to call my endo back and give him a piece of my mind when I suddenly began feeling much better.
Avatar m tn confusion are random (or I have not been able to correlate it to any external factors after years of experimentation and elimination) and can (and often do) occur in the middle of the night. So I'm looking for a Dr. in the bay area whom my United Healthcare PPO would cover, who's willing to listen to all the self-diagnosis I've done over the years and is open to trying out new things. Willing to travel up to 100 miles for that. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn s disease) include a very prominant buffalo hump, high hip waist ratio (slightly improved and is currently 0.94 - should be 0.8 or less for women and 0.9 or less for men), and acanthosis nigricans (a skin disorder in which there is darker, thick, velvety skin in body folds and creases). Despite normal insulin labs, the decades of untreated magnesium deficiency and hypothyroidism have caused insulin resistance symptoms.
468796 tn?1220029445 I just had a long talk with my wife about triglycerides and glucose and insulin, and as she explained it my eyes started glazing over. LOL!! I don't understand it even after she explained it to me. Your cholesterol is a little high, but not enough in my opinion to subject yourself to cholesterol meds and the risks involved with taking them. The insulin level is more important to address than your TSH, I think.
Business woman2 So I took radioactive iodine and started my levothyroxine...now I am getting bigger!!! I exercise, and eat healthy (lots of veggies and chicken) but after a month I only lost 2lbs...I know it is better then nothing, but when you are over 300lbs it is a tiny step!
Avatar m tn I have hypothyroidism; I take 37.5 mcg of Levothyroxine and my TSH is now at 2.97. For years I have struggled with sudden pangs of hunger resulting in sweating, confusion, migraines, etc. I regularly wake up in the middle of the night shaking with hunger. Over the years I've significantly reduced carbs in my diet in response. My diet consists almost entirely of vegetables, beans, fruits, nuts, cheese, eggs, with a slice of high-fiber bread on certain days.
Avatar f tn I went to see an endo because I have been having many hypothyroid symptoms. My periods are irregular, I am freezing all of the time, inability to loose weight, acne (new), low libido, extreme fatigue, and irritability. I am 5'8" and 177 lbs (usual is 160 lbs). I am extremely active! I am an ICU nurse and I work 12 hour shifts twice a week, I run 5-6 miles twice a week, and do 50 minutes of boot camp classes twice a week.
Avatar f tn Say you were a diabetic on insulin (or hypothyroid on levo). You take your meds every day and test when you should. One day you say to yourself "My tests are always normal, so I think I can stop taking my insulin (levo)." Well, it usually happens a lot faster for the diabetic, but the result is the same. Medicated on insulin or levo, your tests reflect the fact that you are taking meds. Take away the meds, and you are going to crash. You need to educate your family.
Avatar f tn The two most important organs that respond to insulin are the liver and muscle. A healthy liver responds to insulin by not producing glucose, while healthy muscle responds by using glucose. An insulin resistant liver produces unwanted glucose, while insulin resistant muscle cannot absorb it from the bloodstream, leading to high levels of sugar in the blood.
Avatar f tn The thyroid controls your metabolism, and when you are hypo, your metabolism slows way down, because your thyroid isn't working properly. That's what's making you gain weight. If you're already overweight, you might also want to look into your blood sugar levels. If you have insulin resistance, your blood sugar levels may be higher than normal, which is causing more insulin to be produced.
Avatar f tn In a recent test, my TSH was 4.45 on a dose of 75 mcg levothyroxine. I am a vegetarian and my diet does not contain eggs, dairy or much oil. My weight is normal (~115 lbs), but I am not unable to get sufficient exercise as I also suffer from fibromyalgia. Should I be worried about my cholesterol levels? If yes, what can I do about it? Is it related to my thyroid condition?
Avatar f tn I am taking levothyroxine 25 daily. I am eating the same amount and doing the same exercise as before I started the medication, that is why I am worried about weight gain. My period is also delayed after taking the medication (my period was very regular each month).
