Synthroid and gerd

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and gerd

synthroid

I started taking 25 mgs. of synthroid on Sept. 4th, and right away I've had relieve from a lot of my symptoms, including indigestion & heartburn. Probably is the placebo effect. Either way I'm still symptom free except for the heartburn, that's actually worse than before taking synthroid. I am having it all day. Therefore, I'm not sure if the synthroid is the cause or if it may be caused from me drinking my morning coffee without taking the protonix. Due to having to wait 4 hrs.
), CL headaches finally ended now just a SORE head, and NO energy, / motivation... he is weak and sinusey.. and has constant. chronic. heartburn, he is SOO frusterated because EVERYtime we go to the DR/GP/....we have no insurance..we see who is available and they do not ever get to the bottom of ANYTHING.. so i am needing him to go BACK on the synthroid. because the heartburn scares me..
Hello All, Does anybody know how many hours should be between Synthroid and Omeprazole so there is no impact to Syngthroid's effectiveness?
Can I take Nexium and Synthroid (generic of synthroid) at the same time in the morning? Both have to be taken in the morning on an empty stomach, an hour or so before a meal. I stopped the Nexium since starting the Synthroid a couple of weeks ago because I was afraid to take both together and thought the synthroid was more important, but am now back to having digestive problems that the Nexium helped.
Could I get some help with my results and dosage of Synthroid? (I had Graves in 1993 and missed to check my blood months ago so I went into the hypo zone with TSH =52 in May). here my current situation: 8/4/2010 - TSH = 4.62 (I was recommended .125 Synthroid) 8/30/2010 TSH = 0.33 (moved to .112 mg Synthroid) 9/14/2010 TSH = 0.358 (moved to .100 mg Synthroid) Does it seem ok to you to land me in the right range?
About six weeks after starting Synthroid, I simply did not feel like myself anymore. My hair was falling out, and I had anxiety I'd never had before. (I'm one of the most patient, laid back people you'll ever meet. OR was.) My mind has repetitive thoughts... and I feel like the everyready bunny unable to slow my mind. Also, palpitations began. Nothing that worried me too much since it was brief episodes.
33 (taking Synthroid .112) and will have another test next week. My problems is my eating. The doc said that I have GERD, however I never had heartburn but I feel something in throut after I eat. This started after TSH came up 52 and since then I'm loosing weight because I cannot eat how much I want, feeling bloated, dry mouth, or a taste in my mouth. I tried Pepcid AC, it's fine for a day or two and then I feel very hungry, eat more and again I don't feel good and have to eat small portions.
I am fearful of taking Simethicone (Gas-x) which seems to work for me, or Protonix which doc prescribed because I've heard they change the acidity in your stomach and inhibit the absorption of the synthroid. Can anybody shed some light? Also, no stupid weight loss and I've really been exercising faithfully every single day- mod-fast walking uphill on a treadmill for 90 minutes EVERY DAY. I've lost 6 lbs. approx but no more!! HELP ME PLEASE!! When do things get better??
had the radiation pill treatment and was rediagnosed as Hypothyroid. I have been on Synthroid since that time and have been followed by an Endo. She told me to not take any generic form of Synthroid as it is not the same effect. She said she had had some patients who had a bad reaction to generic form of synthroid. My pharmacy filled my Synthroid Rx with Levothyroxin but I had them change it back. I know the generic is cheaper but afraid to change. I take 75 mcg per day.
I was hospitalized three years ago in October with the same symptoms as this year while on Synthroid and after an extensive, expensive heart work up finding nothing wrong, I was sent home. Living in Wisconsin, the winters are of course long and outdoor work is at a minimum; but when spring and summer arrives, twelve and thirteen hour days of hard physical work on the farm are normal. With the arrival of fall, the physical work slows down again.
I did develop acid reflex and went to the GI doctor and was told it was GERD. I tried many acid reducers and I had no relief. It was very painful until I did some reading and found a connection on acid and hypothyroidism. I found that the PH levels in my body were actually very acid after developing the hypothyroidism after having radio active iodine that induced it. Since no acid medication was working to rid the acid I tried several natural approaches to get rid of it.
I am certainly more hypo and maybe that is the reason it suddenly packed on one day it seems out of the blue .. not like a normal weight gain. But my TSH and overall well being and sleep and anxiety are all normal and feeling great so I won't trade off those excellent aspects to the 75mcg Synthroid daily for anything.
Reflux on my 48 hour Bravo was so high, I had a Lap Nissen Fundoplacation w/Hernia Repair Jan 2012, ended up with a leak and 7cm bacterial mass near the wrap that had to be surgically drained, emergency and hospitalized with 103 fever and O2 below 70. Finally back on my feet and my reflux comes back but form of Chest Pains. Another Bravo confirmed as well. Had an EGD w/Dilation Jan 2013.
I don't have a thyroid and take synthroid and I also had Ovarian Cancer(no meds needed, surgery and monthly doctor visits) and a total hysterectom). I was on Effexor for a short time a few years ago and I can't remember side effects. I remember zoloft I felt spacey and on Paxil my eyes were HUGE and I ran miles.... They were giving me this stuff because of the chemical imbalance in my body. The Effexor I believe was good- I rested more, I think.
i also have chest pressure and throat pressure and a metal taste in my mouth. i am taking synthroid .01mg and nexium 40 mg daily. i am trouble discerning whether these symptoms are that of gerd or the hypothyriodism. at this time, my t3/t4 are with in range., i still have some symptoms of the hypothyriodism as i was diagnosed about 6 months ago.i was told that would get better with time.
I am taking Synthroid 150mcg and Cytomel 25mcg 1/2 tablet daily.I was just diagnosed with acid reflux and was told to take my Prilosec on an empty stomach at 7am...however,I take my Synthroid and Cytomel at that time. Can you take them together?I asked the doctor but he didn't seem certain enough to make me feel comfortable with taking them together. To me it just doesn't seem right to take thyroid meds and acid reducers at the same time. Can anyone help please!
So I had been taking 88mcg of Synthroid and Adipex 37.5mg and lost 20 pounds in about 4 and half weeks along with exercise and dramatic change in diet from the summer that included cutting down on gluten products. Well, it turns out that I had gone into a hypo state during the whole time I was dieting and exercising. My TSH level was 21 and when I was originally diagnosed with Hashimoto it was 20, but interestingly enough my BP went to 120/75.
This is difficult for me to do as I need to eat after I wake up, otherwise my blood sugar drops and I get very shaky. Would it be fine to take my synthroid before I go to bed after all my eating is done for the day as long as I do it consistently?
they did an endoscopy, cat scan, barium swallow, ultra sound and blood tests and nothing showed and the doctors are lost.. other then Gerd(which I was dianoised with years ago) they have no idea and with my meds and eatting properly my gerd should be well under control. I am still waiting on test results from a hydro-scan to see if it may be my gallbladder but they said it was unlikely because it should have showed in my ultrasound. I am completely physically and emotionally wiped.

Gerd and blood in my urine, so it's hard to know who came first, the chicken or the egg. The thyroid may be causing the Gerd, and if I'm heading into menopause, that might explain the blood. Or they could be completely separate issues that are taxing my thyroid. All I know is I want to get all this testing done by the end of the year while I've got my deductible met!!! I can't believe I didn't even make it to 50 before falling apart...

I am a 55yo female and have had gerd for many years, Had an endoscopy last year with sl esophagitis at lower end near stomach. I continue to have symptoms especially at night. Have been on multiple ppi's.Have been on prevacid 30mg daily recently without effect on night time acid. Saw GI MD 3 days ago who put me on prevacid 30mg 2x a day and pepcid 40mg at bed time for 6 weeks. Does this sound reasonable? I get concerned re the medications and side effects. Would there be any by taking both?
I began not wanting to eat, having nausea, hot and cold feelings, and fatigue. Ten days ago I started on 100 mcg. Synthroid. I'll have a few good days followed by a few days of the symptoms. Seems like I'm on a roller coaster. Is this typical during the first six weeks?
hello all i am new and was just diagnosed with hypo and am on synthroid.
I have yet to recover from that surgery as I had a virus going into the surgery and a virus coming out. I also have GERD and a JPouch. But besides all that, I have had a slew of symptoms that appear to be both hyper and hypo. I have headaches (specifically waking up with them, which usually subside once I'm up and showered), severe anxiety and depression (something I have never had), night sweats, chronic fatigue, leg cramps, nausea, lack of appetite and weight loss.

So my PCP has diagnosed me with Hashimoto's due to the elevated antiobody level and wants me to start on synthroid 25 mcg daily to help with the inflammation in my thyroid. My thyroid is palpably enlarged but thyroid u/s was negative. She also told me that it is possible that I may have a parathyroid tumor or something wrong with my kidneys which could be causing the elevated calcium. I will be doing a 24 urine to check calcium soon.
Hi and welcome to the GERD forum. I can relate to most of ur symptoms and conditions. My NL told me to try to relax and that posture is helpful......he said to use the Fieldenkrais Method...there r books available on line. U can also try meditation. I hope u find something that works....
Basically, my left side (face, arm trunk, thigh and down the leg) is numb and needle(ish). I cannot feel heat or pain immediately and have to watch the shower and wear shoes at all times. But I adjusted and learned to live with it. Unfortunately, it worsened every winter and I would enter spring with a bonus disability (swelling, rash, cold intolerance). My first neurologist (due to insurance, I have had 8) advised me to take up tennis in 1999, as I am left handed, to slow the progression.
