Sore scalp nerve

Common Questions and Answers about Sore scalp nerve

sore

It feels like when you have worn a pony tail in your head all day and you take it out and your scalp is a bit sore from your hair being pulled at all day. The sore spot is only on the one area of my scalp. I guess you could say in an area about as big as a quarter. I do wear by hair pulled back sometimes, but not always and it still feels sore in that same spot. I dont understand what it could be. Should I have a dermatolgist check it out?
The doctor thought it was a compressed nerve, something related to the pregnancy. I don't know if this could be related to the sore spots? Could a pinched nerve cause scalp pain like that?
The last 3 days part of my scalp has been very sore, like my hair is being pulled in that area. Could these be related? Should I be worried?

I was wondering if anyone is able to help me. The last 2/3 days i have had bad burning headaches/scalp which has left my scalp feeling tender & sore. However now when i sniff the top of my head in the center (kind of where a hairband would sit) it feel sore & burny.. is this sinusitis?? I do feel congested on & off & have had a small runny nose along with eye pain (they feel like there is lots of pressure in them).
There is a sandy-grainy like build up on my scalp This is also accompanied by an itch. Even after I wash my hair, the grainy like build up is still there. It is NOT flaky what so ever. My hair has also started to fall out and at the end of my hair, a white little grain is at the end. Hair will not stop falling out. I have gotten blood tests at a dermatology office and everything was normal. I also have tried about very type of zinc pyrithione shampoo, at the highest concentrations.
For the past month I've been having headaches on the left side of my head. Top, side and forehead area. If I touch my head my scalp is very sore. I feel like I have a bruise on my head. I've been to my dr he thinks it could be from my birth control pill. I've taken the same pill for 3+ years. I've had a cat scan and it was normal. The pain is not constant but pretty close. Sometimes it pulsates, sometimes it's dull. Does anyone have a clue what this might be?? I need some relief.
I once had a similar issue on the other side of my head and the doctor said he believed it was a scalp pimple pushing down on a cluster of nerve endings. I think this is what's happening with me now, so I'm not too worried, but the pain is still excruciating, sometimes even when the wind blows on my hair. Anyone else with similar symptoms?
Is it possible to have scalp pain due to Fibromyalgia. It comes and goes and only bothers me when I brush my hair or touch it.
There a sore spots that are the size of coins that burn and are very sore and often times even though it seems that no one else can see them, I feel with my fingers what seems to be sore rough spots. From time to time I will also have sharp electric type pain on my head too. I have had this problem since April of 2012. Can anyone relate to this?
Color seems normal to the naked eye too I do have a sore scalp and my hair breaks in these areas very seriously. I want to stop the itching and the soreness. I'm having the same symptoms - ear ache, sore throat, sore scalp. My symptoms have all appeared pretty rapidly. I noticed my ear started hurting yesterday afternoon. Today, I noticed my throat hurt and my scalp has become increasingly sensitive to touch. Did you see a doctor? Did you take anything or do anything to relieve your symptoms? Thanks!
Hi, I am curious how your shingles worked out. I have the same syptoms you did with a sore scalp after 5 days.
I had several years where I was feeling worry constantly about my health -- I ended up with the sensation that my hair had just been pulled out of a ponytail (if youre female youll know exactly what I mean!) very sore and at times part of my scalp would be hotter to the touch than the rest. I believe it was inflamed nerve endings. It sounds like what you may be experiencing.
I'm 14 years old and I think I have a compulsive scalp picking disorder. It all started with just a little scab on my head, about three year ago. I couldn't stand the little imperfection so I used my long finger nails to pick it off. Then I noticed all the other little perfections on my head and all the little chunks and flakes of dandruff. Now I have several scabs and sore spots on my head and I can't stop picking! I think that the habit is disgusting!
and even now I still have areas that have no feeling because of the nerve loss. In addition to the nerve loss, he didn't get it all and within 4 weeks I had another small lump forming..the lump got infected and I've had horrendus infections about every 3 months like clockwork. I also get eruptions of puss pockets all over my neck and face thta I think are related to breaking this cyst up..it seems to have allowed what was once confined to a small area to spread ...
I was also on Gabapentin, Neurontin, Lyrica, etc....thinking it was a nerve issue and even had injections of nerve blocks in my scalp but nothing helped. Keep your chin up and don't lose hope!!! Prayers and love to you!
Do you have a scalp cyst? I did for about ten years until recently. It felt like a marble under my scalp, about two inches above my left ear. Dr. said don't worry about it (scar tissure, benign cyst, etc.) Well, it decided to erupt one morning not long ago, for no apparent reason. All this white creamy stuff oozed out when I touched it. Then I smashed some more out. It was the consistency of toothpaste. Great, I thought. It finally popped. Wrong. This was just stage one.
we HAVE to fix that first, or we'll pick weather theres a scab or not (i've picked my scalp and MADE my own sore so i could pick it). just my two-cents.
changing shampoos, not washing my hair, just conditioning, scrubbing until my scalp was sore and not using my blow dryer. After reading about several people having success with the CLARIFYING SHAMPOO and original LISTERINE solution I decided to give it a try. This has been the BEST decision I have made. I used Neutrogena Anti-residue shampoo, lathering a large amount into my hair and focusing on the roots and crown. I let it sit for a few minutes, scrubbed again, rinsed and repeated.
Right now I have a very tender/sore/painful spot in my scalp. It is on the back of my head, the right side of the middle, up against the top of my head. When I press the spot it hurts. When I drag my hand through my hair too. Sometimes it would be more in the front of my scalp, sometimes the other side etc. It's also sometimes more 'widespread', so much of my scakp will feel tender/sore, but I think there is always one spot which is the 'center'...
Personally, I have no marks, sores, lesions, bruises or anything of the sort on the area of my scalp that gets sore. I find this can also be an indicator that I'm getting sick. I know if it's acting up that it's going to be a rough day, and that everything (symptom wise) is going to be in overdrive, or I'm going to start coming down with a cold. My spot is right side, just off the center of my skull, above the ear. I look forward to seeing if anyone else has this and what it could be.
The symptoms you describe are consistent with a pinched or irriated nerve in the neck region (such as the greater occipital nerve, lesser occiptial nerve, greater auricular nerve, C1, C2 etc.). I am not sure where on the scalp the pain is, but each nerve has a specific distribution on the scalp. Other possiblities include trigeminal neuraligia (usually involves the face) and causes severe knife like pain that is sharp and electric.
I have never felt like a nail is in my scalp, but my scalp is always sore and I just chalked it up to always having my hair in a pony tail or bun for work, so in the past to weeks have started leaving it down as much as possible and it so far has not changed. Wish I would offer some advice! Best Wishes!
at the back of my hairline, where your neck disappears into your hair, in the center/back of my head, I have an upside down V like that is a redish patch of scalp. ITs the only place and it doesnt' itch or anything, but my head is often sore or achy in the back...anyway, I understand Chiari is often hereditary and I have started to wonder if I could be the source...when I saw the red scalp I had a real red flag moment, but don't know why...
I'm struggling with neuropathy (facial numbness/tingling/flushing), brain fog, scalp tightness/tingling, buzzing/ringing in ears (full feeling and hot inside/won't pop but feel as if they need to). Background - I am healthy and go to the gym 3-5 times a week. I do yoga, pilates, total fit classes, cardio. I have a physical every year - my only issue is hypothyroidism which I take 60mg of synthroid daily.
Yesterday I woke up with my bottom right wisdom tooth sore and the tissue around it swollen. My right ear and scalp are also very sensitive to the touch. If either are touched or move, they hurt a lot. I also get what feels like ear ache pain on the right side whenever I swallow. Is a nerve being compressed or does this sound like an infection?
I then started getting a very stiff sore neck and so then I went to a chiropractor to relieve the tension. However, now the burning sensation on the top of my head is worse and is tender to touch and my eye has started to twitch and is twitching more on day three.
Affected areas are highly sensitive to cold. Nerves feel inflamed, especially in the face and hands. Hands feel sore when carrying out most tasks. Small bumps appear on forehead which causes the skin to break when rubbed. Literally all parts of the body are susceptible to the problem. Problem characterised by being symmetrical. Both sides of the body are equally affected. My problems commenced in 1983 some 7 days after receiving the 4th tetanus jab in the space of 9 years.
