Avatar f tn just a quick follow up since someone mentioned this in the HR forum - Sleep apnea was just a suggestion because I like to think outside the box. I was quite shocked I had Moderate OSA because my holter showed a minimum heart rate of 67 and Sleep study showed even in REM my HR only went down to 46, yet I woke up over 72 times in 4.5 hours and my OX was 75% but I was dx with profound bradycardia on other tests. Dr.
Avatar m tn They told Craig he has moderate to severe sleep apnea and needs a CPAP immediately. So it is arriving tomorrow. It is the size of a laptop computer and has a "smart card" in it that records data during the night while the person is sleeping. We then take the card to each follow up appt and they will download the information on it. Anyway, the sleep doctor was telling me that many problems could be caused by sleep apnea.
Avatar n tn My husband was recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnea at a sleep clinic. He has suffered from severe, almost debilitating fatigue for many years, never knowing why. He does not snore. It turns out there is a non-snoring type of Sleep Apnea, and not one doctor (of many, MANY!) ever suggested this as a cause for the fatigue and exhaustion. Now he is using a CPAP machine, and adjusting quite well!
Avatar f tn It sounds to me as if you are suffering from sleep apnea. People with sleep apnea stop breathing during their sleep. There may be some obstruction in the air passage.
Avatar m tn Sleep apnea really aggravates the heart. Have you had a sleep study done, or are you on CPAP at night while you sleep? A dentist can make a night guard appliance you wear while you sleep. It will protect your teeth. I know because I suffered from the same things you are describing. Sleep apnea is a slow killer. You shouldmreally get that looked at first.
Avatar f tn A sleep study would also be helpful, in order to monitor how much sleep apnea she is having and understanding it a bit more. I presume you are probably using a sleep monitor too? I imagine that a downs syndrome support group may also be a good resource for you, also her therapists will probably have some good information too. Best wishes and I hope you get some further direction and progress soon.
Avatar f tn I have Afib and sleep apnea. I was told that 1/3 of Afib cases are due to obstructive sleep apnea. The symptoms you describe sound exactly like when your airway closes and you stop breathing until your brain wakes you up. This happens many times during the night and since you go right back to sleep, you are unaware of it. I would request a sleep test. Also, has this been caught on a monitor? You might want to ask for a 30 day event monitor. Good luck.
1845106 tn?1318905505 re getting enough oxygen and monitor your heart rate. There are treatments for sleep apnea so I really suggest you make an appointment sooner rather than later so you can get some good sleep. (Sometimes even if you don't wake up or don't have a severe problem it could still show minute amounts of issues that may be causing the symptoms you mention.
Avatar n tn It is not unheard of to buy a machine online and treat oneself for obstructive sleep apnea. With the data capable and auto titrating machines, generally speaking, one can tell if the treatment is effective. (With a basic machine, you are shooting in the dark.) Here's the downside to self treatment. If one has central sleep apnea or complex sleep apnea, you wouldn't know that and your treatment may not be effective.
Avatar m tn If these wakenings are accompanied by a fast pulse, you may want to see if you could possibly have sleep apnea, which can stress the heart and shoot stress hormones into the body. Just because of your history, I do hope you are keeping your docotrs informed of every symptom you experience. It may mean something to them that a casual reader wouldn't be tuned in to. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea a few months ago (I had many many hypopneas rather than central or obstructive apneas). However, I'm confused as to how this is possible if my oxygen and co2 levels stayed within the normal range??
454966 tn?1225158761 What concerns me is that you are waking up gasping for breath and feel like you are drowning. This is a classic sign of sleep apnea syndrome. If this has been happening for more than a few days, it's time to see your doctor and talk to him about your sleep problems. Hopefully, he'll request an overnight sleep study to determine if you have a sleep disorder. Do you feel tired during the day? Are you depressed at all? If so, the odds of having a sleep disorder is really high.
Avatar m tn I mentioned during our conversation that our child does have Central Sleep Apnea. Later that afternoon, we received a call from the office saying we needed to come back two weeks later and have him get an MRV. After the MRV, they told us they want us to come back after the school year and have an ICP Monitor placed for a time period ranging from a few minutes to 72 hours. Based on what the ICP Monitor shows, they would then decide if they want to do a Chiari Decompression surgery the same day.
Avatar f tn My EP sent me for a sleep study and I found out I had sleep apnea. You really should have it checked out. Sleep apnea can make rhythm problems worse.
Avatar f tn It is important to rule out type of sleep apnea like Obstructive apnea, Central apnea and Mixed apnea. You need to undergo tests to rule out the type of apnea. Few of the tests include Apnea index, Apnea-hypopnea index, Respiratory disturbance index, Desaturation and Arousal index. If the tests are suggestive of sleep apnea the treatment in the form of supplemental oxygen and drugs like acetazolamide and theophylline against prescription are promising.
Avatar n tn I do have sleep apnea, so I suspect that is a contributor, but can anyone lend some insight into this? .
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn This has happened a few times during the day too. Is this sleep apnea or an anxiety attack, and how do you rule out one over another? Prelim. results of a 30 day event monitor show no arrythmias beyond normal PVCs.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure about the seeing things, but your heart rate being up could be linked to why you feel scared. And it could possibly be sleep apnea. Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry, I'm not sure about something you said. Did she actually sleep all wired up overnite in a sleep lab? For the doctor to say she "cannot have sleep apnea because she is not overweight and does not snore" is simply not accurate. Unbelievable a medical professional in this day and age would still think that. I would not accept that as the final answer unless she did have a full sleep study. Besides, there's both obstructive and central sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn My 9 month old daughter was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea when she was 3 months old. I found her grey in her carseat, Doctors disbelieved my finding but covered themselves by sending home a Apnea monitor for 3 days. The next day she had 10 alarms. Doctors hospitalized her for 5 days and ran some test on her. MRI was fine. But the milk scan came back that she showed slight reflux. Doctors told me she was fine and that she no longer needed the Apnea monitor.
Avatar m tn No, sleep apnea can cause your heart to do weird things. I have been having problems with apnea and PVCs, but it can also cause tachycardia, bradycardia and your heart stopping for a couple of seconds. I would definitely check to make sure you are still sleeping well.
Avatar n tn s been quite a lot of info out lately about kids diagnosed as ADHD or even having behavioral or learning problems actually having sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is associated with increased risk for cardiac disease, Type 2 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. Oxygen deprivation to the brain can cause severe morning headaches, and possibly even brain damage when oxygen levels get too low.
Avatar f tn i been haveing fast heartbeat atnight thatwakes me up done many heart test that were normal and i have high blood pressure most of the time now lately been haveing chest cramps and grasping for breath at night i was wondering if it could be sleep apnea i always had problems falling asleep and when i do i would wake up by my heartbeat or shakeing or trying to breath and i always sweat more at night when i sleep than in the day i been to the doc they keep doing heart test and chest xrays that are
Avatar n tn I do have sleep apnea, so I suspect that is a contributor, but can anyone lend some insight into this?
Avatar f tn I had similar heart rates at sleep. See your cardiologist about sleep apnea. Vivid dreams and high heart rate are some signs of this disorder. The test is simple and painless. you just get hooked up to some monitors and go to sleep. I found my heart rate increased during my dream states dramatically.
Avatar n tn I am trying to find a link to med given to me by the military that may have caused sleep apnea. a friend said he read that some of the shots given to us before we went to the persian gulf could cause sleep apnea.
