Avatar m tn The advertisements are blocking all the articles I wish to read about sleep paralysis and sleep apnea. Why even have an article to be shown if you are going to allow ads to block pertinent information. I know this is free for me, but honestly, what a pain in the ***. I just got finished wasting time to set up an account in the hopes that if I was a member the ads wouldn't block the pages I wanted to read, but oh no, that was not the case.
Avatar f tn Additionally, opening up your nose will help, but don't count on it helping to cure your sleep-breathing condition. (It's been shown to cure sleep apnea in about only 10% of the time.) The benefit to a septoplasty (and turbinoplasty) is that you'll breathe better through your nose in general, and it'll allow you to use treatment options (CPAP or dental devices) much more effectively. Lasers are a very old technology and is rarely used anymore with this type of procedure.
Avatar m tn I have sleep Apena and its not as major as one might think. It can usually be controlled with a CPAP or BiPAP machine.
Avatar n tn I did read some articles and it seems anesthesiologists in some facilities are screening patients for possible sleep apnea as some studies show patients with it have a shorter recovery with fewer complications if cpap is used postop. I don't know this site's policy on posting links, but I will say I saw several articles referenced on cpaptalk under the icon of a lightbulb in the topic of CPAP safety. Hope you find enough to make your point.
Avatar f tn obstructive sleep apnea, but more central or they say possible a complex sleep apnea. So, the causes are more neurologic related that physical obstruction. It is not that I WANT the diagnosis of MSA, but I guess I would like to know if it is more likely. I am a fairly young mother of two and I guess I would like to know if I should push the doctors to look harder into this.
Avatar n tn Hi Dental devices are used as an option for obstructive sleep apnea patients who cannot tolerate CPAP. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends dental devices for patients with mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea for whom the CPAP is not suitable or those who have failed on the CPAP machine. The two common types of devices are the Mandibular advancement/ Mandibular Repositioning Device and the Tongue retaining device.
Avatar f tn I don’t have insurance that would take me to a sleep disorder clinic. I do not suffer from sleep apnea, And actually life is better these past two years and it’s been in a while. But my sleep is so irregular. I have read so many articles tried so many different things and I’m just wondering where I go from here?
Avatar f tn The only way to know if you have apneas, if at all, and whether it's central or obstructive is to undergo a sleep study. What you describe sounds like a typical obstructive apnea. There is no "typical" sleep apnea patient—we now know that even young thin women who don't snore can have significant obstructive apneas. I wouldn't jump to conclusions about rare brainstem tumors or anything of that sort.
886699 tn?1270779744 m surprised they diagnosed you with CFS on top of sleep apnea; sleep apnea is one of the diagnoses of exclusion listed for CFS. Which is to say, sleep apnea is one of the diagnoses that are supposed to be ruled out in cases of chronic fatigue (the symptom) before CFS (the syndrome) is diagnosed. I suppose that doesn't apply in cases where the sleep apnea is being treated and the chronic fatigue still persists?
Avatar f tn Does anyone have experience with a relation between sleep apnea and hypothyroid? It could also be that his sleep apnea is causing symptoms similar to those of hypo.
Avatar m tn I have seen many specialists in regards to my snoring and sleep apnea (mild - did a sleep study 4 years ago, I am sure that my sleep apnea has worsen a bit). Some of the different specialists that I have seen are: ENT docs, Otolaryngologists, Internal Medicine/Respirologist, Dentist, and Sleep Disorder doctor. I have tried the CPAP for 2 years (hate it) and I am currently using the mouth-guard (where my jaw is moved forward).

Avatar f tn We are currently looking to invite Respondents diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) aged 40+ to take part in a market research discussion on the topic of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness. • Methodology: 1. Avatar f tn I have recently been diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea and started on a CPAP machine. At first it seemed ok to be using it although difficult the first couple of times. Then this week I developed edema and pain in my joints. It's worse in the morning after waking and gets a little better the later in the day away from the machine I get. Could the CPAP cause the swelling and pain? Has anyone ever heard of that?
Avatar f tn t officially have obstructive sleep apnea, it sounds like you may have sleep-breathing problems, which can aggravate your asthma due to chronic inflammation in your lungs. Please keep us posted on your study results.
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Untreated hypothyroidism can worsen/cause sleep apnea. Treated hypothyroidism should have no impact on sleep apnea. Treating sleep apnea should have little impact on the thyroid. In your case, you appear to have stable, treated hypothyroidism which is not likely contributing to the sleep apnea. Hashimoto's is the cause of the hypothyroidism and would not directly influence the OSA. The high BMI is the biggest risk factor for OSA in this case.
Avatar f tn Sorry to hit you with questions instead of answers, but hopefully they will lead to answers. Are you on any meds that could have sleep disturbance as a side effect? Hopefully you already have a copy of your report so you can examine it for anything you do not understand. In the absensce of of a sleep apnea diagnosis, scrutinize your report for info on the the following: What is said about limb movements? What is said about arousals (count and cause)? Is there any mention of UARS?
Avatar n tn I'm not sure about the seeing things, but your heart rate being up could be linked to why you feel scared. And it could possibly be sleep apnea. Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen.
507890 tn?1211294759 She might be having sleep terrors coupled with sleep apnea. These hallucinations are seen if sleep deprivation does continue for long time. Does she fall asleep for more part of day? Is she active in her studies and daily activities? Has ENT doctor for snoring problem seen her? It is better to consult the doctor at early and update on the advice. Take care.
Avatar f tn Well, hold off on the expensive scans and heart tests until you get the second sleep experiment with a positive airway pressure mask. You see, the connection between "psychosis" and sleep apnea is probably from the lack of sleep that sleep apnea causes. When you don't get enough solid sleep, you can have all sorts of oddball mental impressions of things that seem out of place.
1565420 tn?1304572548 It seems like Bi Polar and sleep issues like insomnia go hand in hand. But, I've also noticed that a lot of people with Bi Polar also have Sleep Apnea. I'm wondering if the chicken came before the egg and so forth. I just read Dr. Parks article on Breathing Issues associated with Insomnia and I'm wondering if Breathing Issues leads to Sleep Issues leads to chemical imbalances such as BP. I may be way off but I can't help but wonder.
Avatar f tn Hello board. I've had two short periods of "atypical psychosis" and it looks like I've got sleep apnea after a sleep study I just had based on some of what I've been told but I haven't gone over the results yet, they did find something wrong though and are having me go in for testing with the sleep apnea airway mask. Anyway, I've read a brain tumor could be the cause of psychosis.
Avatar n tn I am trying to find a link to med given to me by the military that may have caused sleep apnea. a friend said he read that some of the shots given to us before we went to the persian gulf could cause sleep apnea.
