Avatar f tn You can take a simple questionnaire to see if you are at risk for sleep apnea. There are several sites where you can take it online. One is: http://www.umm.edu/sleep/apnea_risk.htm Take the link to the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and do that first, then do the questionnaire.
Avatar n tn I would advise you to consult a sleep specialist who would assess with first a sleep questionnaire, and then he may ask for a polysomnogram, which is an overnight sleep study as this helps to detect the apneas. Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea is by CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) where air under gentle pressure is passed into the airways keeping it patent. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar m tn I know sleep apnea can cause anxiety and panic attacks. But can anxiety cause sleep apnea? I have a ventricular aneurysm and PVCs my doctors say are normal. I'm not overweight, I don't drink, not on meds. I've been waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air.
Avatar n tn I think it might be a good idea for her to talk to her dr about sleep apnea and have them rule it out. Especially if she snores loudly, is overweight, has any sinus issues, or wakes up tired or with headaches. Sometimes when a person has sleep apnea they stop breathing and it jerks them awake just enough for them to move position and start breathing again. It might not be sleep apnea, but it's something to consider.

Avatar m tn Problems with breathing (Obstructive sleep apnea), certain medications, restless leg movements and sleep walking/talking could contribute to insomnia. The first step would be to rule the causes for insomnia like sleep disorders. Next it is treated with both medical and non medical therapy.

Avatar m tn I would get with my doctor and ask for a sleep study. It could be a lot of things. The first thing that pops to mind when someone says they stop breathing at night is sleep apnea, but your description doesn't really sound like sleep apnea. A sleep study would be the first thing I would try. Good luck!

612551 tn?1450022175 So, the questionnaire could implicate two possibilities, whether you are having adequate REM phase sleep. This can be interrupted, if you have sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea. OSA can also cause hypoxia. Another possibility is disorders related to dreaming could occur with REM sleep behavior disorders (trouble mares). Here the person acts out the dreams. Good Luck with your sleep study. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar m tn This episode happens nearly almost day, like a good amount of children my age I use marijuana in a variety of ways somewhat often (1-2 times a week) Any of the nights that I go to sleep while high or buzzed I have no sleep apnea problem and I fall straight to sleep. I would say that this is due to the CBD in marijuana but often times I vaporize or consume edibles which is mostly THC and still receive the same positive sleeping effects.

Avatar m tn Excessive daytime sleepiness can occur, due to inadequate sleep at night due to sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea. It can also be due to other disorders like narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnagogic hallucinations and automatic behavior.
Avatar m tn I feel this fluttering sensation in my chest - I found out a few months ago that my cholesterol was very close to 400 - I was put on medication but haven't been back for a check up yet. I don't have any health insurance and the clinic I went to was not the best - the doc seemed to want to dismiss everything I told her about me... 50 lb weight gain in 2 years... hot flashes, night sweats (this has gone on since I was 38 and am now 54).
Avatar m tn I can answer your questions because i have the exact same symptoms and have been having them for years. I have sleep apnea and narcolepsy, and the hallucinations are caused by sleep deprivation. I hate the fact that i can't seem to get out of these dreams but i have recently found the solution. Get out of bed and do something for 5 or 10 minutes....i usually will come downstairs and check my email or just surf for a few minutes.
Avatar f tn This could cause Obstructive Sleep Apnea and disturbed sleep. Here, the air way collapses during sleep and the lungs do not have air entry leading to deoxygenation (decreased oxygen) of blood and the person wakes up. This period of non entry of air is called ‘Apnea’ and the waking up is called an ‘Arousal’.
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure about the seeing things, but your heart rate being up could be linked to why you feel scared. And it could possibly be sleep apnea. Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen.
