seroquel vs depakote

I am currently taking 1000mg of Depakote and 300mg Seroquel Xr and have been stable since Christmas. I am gaining a lot of weight, been on both drugs for 9 months now.. was on Olanzapine before and found it pretty horrific! I am thinking of reducing the meds slightly to help with the weight gain, I have been running on a treadmill but all that happens is that I then feel shaky and crave more stodgy sugary foods so it feels like there's no point.

The lemonade diet I was thinking about because i been reading about it lately and so many people was using it, so i was thinking it might work for me. I read some where in the paper or online line you can lose 20lbs in 2 weeks. but like you said it just might be a gimmic.

For instance 100 seroquel = 1 risperidone = 3 zyprexa. My information is that all are given to prevent mania and reduce dopamine responsible for psychosis. Yet seroquel especially is given for depression too this is why it works as a mood stabilizer. Some say all atypical are the same but seroquel seems to be different from readings and at least it works for me. My combo is 75 seroquel + 1 risperidone + 1 stelazin (typical AP). It's weird and crazy usually one AP is enough.

i m suppose to take 1 depakote during the day, and 1 depakote and 1 seroquel at night i was wondering did anyone every mix these two together and get good results from it or will i become a walking zombie and lose track of time and not be able to function like i should. I am in the last year of college and it is already hard as it is because i am fighting hard to concentrate because of my mood swings, migraines and my concentration period. plz your advice to me is truly welcome.

I personally have been on Depakote for 17 years, and it's been a good drug for me. I have had trouble gaining weight while on it, however. I never had any problem with hair loss or any other side effects. The only thing is that you have to get bloodwork done every so often, because there is a danger of liver problems.

t enough. I took Depakote, and gained weight from my increase in appetite. Then I tried Seroquel, which worked good but I ate so much and gained weight. Then I tried Saphris, and gained 15 pounds! I couldn't stop eating. My doctor just put me on Abilify today but if it makes me gain weight too then what should I ask for?

I have soft bipolar, bipolar II with no mania. Week and a half ago after takin 250 of Depakote for about 2 months and taking 500 for about 1 month (blood work was done) my doctor decided upper me up to 750 for a week then take 1000mg. At the same day I went up to 750 I have decreased my Xanax XR cutting down frm 1.5mg to 1mg. I was taking the Xanax for almost two years.

My 14 year old daughter has been taking 750mg of depakote and 300mg of seroquel daily for 4yrs. She is about 50 lbs overweight & diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome. I want her off her meds. How will she be weaned and does anyone know if she will lose some of this weight gain? She is somewhat active and does try to keep her weight down but at each psych. visit she has gained more weight.

She was starting have nightmare regarding death, and her medication was changed to seroquel. About 3 to 4 weeks after starting seroquel she had a seizure ( 1 at home and 2 in the hospital). She was taken off the seroquel and but on Lamitcal and has had 5 more seizures. Is her bipolar disorder causing the seizures?

Diagnosed w/bipolar within the past year and doc has me on 1500mg depakote and 300mg seroquel -- I'd say they give me 80% relief from my symptoms, I don't feel 100% well. But I feel like I'm in a fog all the time, I sleep 10-12 hrs. a night and when I wake up I just don't want to get out of bed and he gave me provigil to help me stay awake during the day. Also, I've gained 20 lbs!

Fentanyl and depakote, topamax, and Seroquel are listed as increasing drowsiness, as does depakote + Seroquel. In addition, depakote + topamax can increase the drug levels of both meds, meaning that he's effectively getting a higher dose of both. Seroquel + topamax also has a slight risk of overheating, although that's a rare side effect and more common in children. I'm guessing the topamax is for migraines.

I am currently on seroquel and depakote. I just started the depakote a few months ago but when i take it right it seriously controls my mood swings better than anything else. my favorite has always been seroquel it helps tremedously with all of the effects of being bipolar and phycosis but it is very sedating. the sedation does go away but for me it ends up coming back and i have to lower my dosage so i don't sleep all thwe time.

I agree with the others, speak to your doc about your medications, seroquel and lithium are both known to cause weight gain, as is depakote. I gained a stack load of weight on depakote which made me feel bad then about being overweight - ergo, it didn't help with my moods because i was down about my weight, catch 22. I came off the depakote and I am slowly losing the weight.

I have been taking Depakote and Seroquel Xr since October 2010 and I actually quite like them LOL after being on so many mood stabilisers and antipsychotics. In May the Seroquel was increased from 300mg to 400mg as I was becoming very irritable and unable to cope with small amounts of stress without flying into a rage and then being left with lots of tears of guilt about being so nasty. I had also noticed that my sleep was getting less and less as the Seroquel wasn't making me as drowsy.

Can anybody tell me your experience which medicine you felt the best? I felt seroquel best but after doctor gave me rispredal saying seroquel is not good , all disaster started. What are the best medicine for you?

50mg seroquel, 1mg risperidone, 1mg stellazin (typical antipsychotic) my last mania 4 years ago. I extinguished it by 300 seroquel. After which I kept reducing seroquel dose, until a month ago succeed till 50. Perhaps at this dose no antidepressant effect of it. Perhaps should be higher than that. Already I am BPII so depression is my problem.

Yes monkeyc, seroquel is usually given alongside a mood stabilizer such as lithium/depakote etc. Seroquel is an anti-psychotic and apparently very good for anger - I was put on seroquel alongside depakote, although I am not on either of those now, I am yet to find the combination that suits me. May be worth discussing with your doc dianachinery.

Talked to my pdoc yesterday about a long term drug. I'm taking Seroquel and Escitalopram at the mo. Seroquel is not approved here as along term maintenance drug and she has suggested either valproate or olanzapine as I can't take Lithium because of blood pressure issues and a possibility of kidney failure. I am very sensitive to drugs and usually take the lowest does possible as I get all the rare side effects. I only take 50mg of Seroquel and thats enough to bring me down.

It depends on the specific person but Seroquel does have strong mood stabilization effects. It was complex for myself as a person with schizoaffective disorder or people I knew with bipolar with psychotic features as there a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic was neccessary. With straight bipolar Seroquel being an FDA approved mood stabilizer should work at a therapeutic dose. You can see if at a proper dose you can tolerate the akathesia.

I am on 200 mg Lamictal plus 20 mg Lexapro. With that combination I feel a lot better. So glad I stopped the Seroquel and Depakote. The meditation sounds like a good idea for the anxiety -- I still feel that way sometimes but try to put those thoughts out of my mind. Good luck to you also!

Thank you so much for the very helpful post. I have taken Depakote and Seroquel before. The seroquel was prescribed for my insomnia and depakote for my migraines. I didn't take the depakote long enough though. I'm still a little confused on the hypomanic phases because I'm not sure when I'm in one. I do get to where I'm very talkative and won't shut up.

I have been on 1500mg of depakote for 6 months for bipolar disorder and I was wondering does anybody know how to get off this stuff without all the seizures and withdrawals. Any help would be appreciated.

and am now on the zoloft-seroquil and instead of triliptal he wants me to try depakote--500 mg twice a day----i have been on several different meds in the last 6 months--any help on the effects of the Depakote would be appreciated---I feel like they will never get the meds right and i am spiraling down--just want to eat,sleep and lay on the couch--THANKS SO MUCH
