Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar n tn Blood levels of cyclosporine are increased if taken with grapefruit juice. A plausible mechanism involves the combined inhibition of enteric CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein, which potentially leads to serious adverse events (e.g., nephrotoxicity).Blood levels of tacrolimus (Prograf) can also be equally affected for the same reason as with cyclosporine.
574118 tn?1305135284 Hi Monkeyc Thank you very much for your very prompt reply. It may be silly to count them but because I heard one of the pdocs say if mania occured twice then recovery (prophylaxis) is in 3 years with mood stabilizers. But if more then I shall stay BP for the rest of my life. it's rage because I destructed some furniture. I told my parents that they are objecting to buy something. So I got furious and became "manic" . >Seroquel will calm rage in non bipolars.
Avatar f tn Seroquel is one of the 'atypical antipsychotics' that came out about ten years ago. They were first used for serious mental illness like schizophrenia, and then for bipolar disorder, and then for the thing we 'call' bipolar in children, that really isn't bipolar disorder.
Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of CampralĀ® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

Avatar m tn Oyakawa I am in my 3rd year of medical school and I was wondering the mechanism of action of steroid injections in the eyelid causing cataracts. It is not an osmotic agent so why does that occur? thanks so much.
Avatar n tn t drink because of that. There are likely a lot of medications that effect your liver. The only ones I know of are Tylenol and pain medicines that contain acetaminophen, but I am sure there are likely a lot more. Anyway that is the extent of my knowledge on this and maybe someone else will have first hand experience to help you more.

Avatar f tn Hi all, I've been on seroquel for quite some time. We had to upgrade it a little when I had a psychotic break of two months. My question is is it normal to not feel anything? I'm unhappy but my unhappiness is just a sort of tenderness in the backround. I am severely withdrawn from people. I feel like Ive lost my humanity. I go through the motions of laughing, smiling, being pleseant (when absolutely needed) but I dont feel any of it.
Avatar f tn Just two, quitiapine and venlafaxine and diazapam when needed
Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
574118 tn?1305135284 s rather rare that patients take such little dose that is active. For instance seroquel is 25mg is enough for me and active. My lamictal was 2mg infantile and was working well until i had seizure with paxil. So each time i take a new drug i never reacvh what is called a therapeutic level. Why should i, if already my therapeutic level is so low instead of ruining my liver,... Could this apply to lithium as well, i.e.
574118 tn?1305135284 I have long been questioning why am i taking so much seroquel (150mg) and only 1mg apexidone (egyptian brand for risperidone) which made me try to reduce the first by all means but in vain, until i discovered that my 1mg of the 2nd equals 100 of the 1st. So by taking 150mg seroquel i am in fact taking 1.5mg of risperidone only. I was trying hard to reduce my seroquel by 50mg meaning trying to reduce my apexidone by 0.5mg which is nonsense.

1115572 tn?1258804496 I am on Seroquel for Bipolar Disorder. Had 3 eye examinations, one of them at a community health check which said I have cataract and need operation. Second examination at specialist eye hospital - see no cataract. Third examination - slight cataract. I am 60 and the doctor at the eye hospital (before he came up with a verdict of "see no cataract" commented - cataract at 60? What is going on in this world? My father was diabetic which probably contributed to a stroke.
Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
Avatar m tn With Effexor the Norephineperine mechanism of action does not take place unless the patient is taking at least 225Mgs a day. In most cases 300Mgs a day. That is the dosage when Effexor XR really starts to produce a strong theraputic effect. This info was given to me by my Psychiatrist who also happens to be a Psychopharmocologist and a lead member of the Psychopharmological center at Tulane university. I think you can trust that he knows what he is talking about when he says this is true.

Gastroenterology. 2010 Jul;139 The therapeutic mechanisms of ribavirin for hepatitis C are unclear. Microarray analyses have shown that ribavirin increases induction of interferon-stimulated genes. We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
574118 tn?1305135284 s the difference between valerian root and other tranquilizers like xanax, valium etc... . I know that the action of valerian root is to inhibit the reuptake of GABA which is needed also it has anticonvulsant properties. But i need someone educated in this to explain the difference. What are the dangers. Although at my age i should be knowledgeable in this stuf but because i never tried them, even i never smoked cigarettes so i can't tell the difference in action between tranquilizers.

766412 tn?1234893283 Hi everyone (especially the original poster), I'm new here but I actually joined this whole MedHelp network for weight loss DUE to seroquel. Over the past six years I've reached a high dose of 400mg, and now I'm starting to experience some of the side effects: massive weight gain, slowed metabolism, messy lipids and cholesterol levels, and a bunch of other stuff that is starting to put me at risk for Type II diabetes.

Avatar f tn t have severe anxiety but I have met a lot of people on Remeron, Klonopin, and Seroquel (usually not at the same time) and although all of them are great for anxiety, some of it is cognitive. What has been going on in your life recently that has changed which made you want to start smoking marijuana? If you just had a minor elevation in anxiety than talk to your therapist (if you have one) and ask them what you can do along with the meds to pull you out of it.
