Seizure in unborn babies

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure in unborn babies

seizure

Hi All, I ask this question because, if this has been lurking in my system for many years and I have not been treated for it, could this be passed to my children? I have a 7 1/2 yr. old son and 4 1/2 yr. old daughter . When my son was 18 months old, he had a rash that pretty much covered his body, (not a bull's eye rrash) but we did not know wwhat could have caused the big red bumps on him.
About 2 weeks ago my husband and I started noticing that our unborn baby moves in shaky movements, kind of like a seizure or maybe like she’s having a giant muscle spasm. We were slightly worried about how abnormal it feels, and we’ve asked one another, “What on Earth could she be doing?” It feels like a jackhammer going off inside of me! Does that sound normal? It is super fast!
The only reason I came off it and went to keppra is the massive risks to the unborn baby. My consultant here in Ireland started the first epilespy pregnancy register which looked at all epilespy drugs and effects on babies. It was done over 10 years and epilim was one of the worst drugs for physical and mental development problems. I have a healthy 2 year old daughter with keppra.
She is taking Phenytoin EX 100MG. 1capsule 3times daily. She is also a drug abuser. No one has ever seen her have a seizure, she is very secretive about the meds she takes because of her drug abuse. So is this med a danger to the unborn child.
Mind you, I was half asleep, lol! But I thought to myself, oh no, is is possible to have a seizure in the womb!?! I was so worried something could be wrong, because I have never felt that feeling before w/ my first PG, and this was a first w/ this one! What is going on, could something be wrong in there? What would cause a baby to shake in the womb? I've never felt it before, and I have never heard anyone talk about baby's moving that rapidly in the womb.
The fetal alcohol and crack babies often have learning disabilities. Opiate/heroin addicted babies may too, I just haven't come across any in my 10 years of teaching. I also taught 3 years in a residential treatment facility where most of the kids lived on grounds but some were transported to me from public schools because every school in their district had expelled them. I once had 2 boys who lived 2 hours from my classroom, but 5 minutes from each other.
Hi, my name is claire. My story starts march 2007 when i became pregnant to my partner. We were over the moon and really excited at the thought of our little one being born. due date was the 10th of December. my pregnancy was text book until i went for the twelve weeks glucose tolerence test in which i was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, which is not uncommon in pregnancy. Still all went well.
“I was in a rehab when I found out I was pregnant. I have now been sober since Feb. 8th of this year and am 12 weeks pregnant. They told me no drug is good to do during pregnancy. It can hurt the baby. I have been on methadone since Feb. 8th and will be on it my whole pregnancy. Maybe it something you can look into. I have no cravings and the baby is growing good and healthy.” This got me to realize how important it is for me to address this issue.
I know there are so many women in here who couldn't easily have babies and sadly quite a few who lost their babies. Reading their stories makes me feel sooooo guilty for feeling the way I did. Are you having a boy or a girl?
seizure, rapid breathing, decreased muscle tone, increased crying, not eating appropriately (uncoordinated sucking), jitteriness The dr wil put the baby on phenobarbital to decrease the chances of seizure, your baby will usually show signs of wd @ day 2- so you might have a longer stay in the hospital- but as long as your dr knows what is going on they can keep the baby as comfortable as possible!
Her baby would just stop breathing and her eyes would roll back in her head and she would start shaking but it wasn't a seizure. Scary stuff!! Last I talked to her the baby was still doing it at 6 months. When it gets hard and you wanna reach for a pain pill just remember this is such a short period of time to be in pain compared to the years of pain it could cause your child.
Babies are a blessings. Wait and see before making any decision to terminate. Your still pretty early in your pregnancy.
Its pretty much the same thing in utero since the alcohol also goes into the babies blood stream. To each their own, but I think you get my opinion. Super touchy subject though!
They had over 1,000 people in the study who quit cold turkey in that study and there were seizure but it was like under 12 or 20 so I thought just do it. I quit cold turkey for 4 days and it was awful but manageable. I could function but was certainly nervous and did not sleep at all but I was ok. Then of course I slowly started up again because the lack of sleep was killing me with having to take care of my sons. Since the end of November I have been taking 2 mg of xanax a day.
Seizures have occurred in some people taking tramadol. Your risk of a seizure may be higher if you have any of these conditions: a history of drug or alcohol addiction; a history of epilepsy or other seizure disorder; a history of head injury; a metabolic disorder; or if you are also taking an antidepressant, muscle relaxer, or medicine for nausea and vomiting. Talk with your doctor about your individual risk of having a seizure while taking tramadol.
If there was just a whooping cough vaccine it would be best but since it it combined with a tetanus vaccine that is not as common in babies, it makes ppl second guess it. But whooping cough is not a risk to take on your child. if you passed it on would you regret it?
I opted to not tell him because I didn't want it in my records that I had been on medication in case something unrelated and unforeseen happened w/ my preg I felt it may be a catch all for blame…It does happen. Anything is possible but I think if you can stay off the meds your baby will be fine. We do have to take care of ourselves to have healthy babies so if you are feeling the need to discuss this w/your doc tell him the truth. There is absolutely nothing wrong w/that!!!
NO ONE in my family immidiate/cousins has diabetes. I never had problems with sugar With DD I didnt have diabetes, and the test results for the one hour were a bit above normal like this. I dont find the need to retake it, I gagged from the 50mg... Im imagining Ill definatly puke with the 100mg test. If I do puke at the three hour test, Ill be told you have to retake it. I will not keep retaking a 3 hour test. I do have a 3 yr old, who needs to be watched.
) Perhaps I should tell you why I made this post about mothers who give birth to drug addicted babies. I met a young lady in the doctors office who was on crack and pregnant and she had NO intentions of trying to stop the drugs for the baby's sake and her sake. She had the mind set that hey the doctors will fix the baby and all will be fine.
after tapering down to 1mg 2x a day for two mnths then 1/2mg for 1week that week I went into a coma from seizures I didnt even realize I was having, almost like spasms in my brain that cause bleeding ruptures in my brain....
I was cutting down until I had oral surgery in late July to have my wisdom teeth extracted and they prescribed me 30 7.5 mg Lortabs then I got dry socket so they prescribed me 20 more 7.5s. Is it to late to taper off of the painkillers so my daughter wont have to go threw the pain of withdrawal after she is born? What are the effects these pills have on her and also will the hospital drug test me or her when she is born or do they only do that if she shows signs of withdrawal?
have i hurt the baby at all i found out at 6 weeks and have tryed to stop im trying to lowerhow many i take its hard. i just wanna know if my baby will be ok? and i dont wanna tell doc. live in small town and every one know everyone. What should i do.Is my baby ok. How can i stop safely?
Reseach shows that most babies born to mother's using benzodiazipines such as Klonopin have perfectly healthy babies. Hang in there!
I have been on many different meds while pregnant most related to a herniated disk in my back. I can tell you from experience that in moderation it is safe. Trust in your doctor as long as they are aware of the pregnancy, they will reference "Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation" which gives the category for all meds and possible effect.
But that's not the most alarming part of Tramadol in my case. In my case the antidepressant that they tacked on to the cocktail is the thing that causes all the rough psychological and mental symptoms. It's a Two Fer One! I've been feeling like I was going crazy for a long time. And in addition to that; the scary suicidal ideation. The suicidal ideation vanished and returns ONLY if I get a flare up of withdrawal symptoms. That happens if I get over stressed.
