Seizure in premature babies

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure in premature babies

Avatar n tn We have premature twins born on 33rd week, who where in the NICU for 1 week. My daughter the elder of the twins had a couple strokes apnea on the 1st day itself, but later was fine and discharged from hospital. Now she shows irregular patterns of breathing and certain suspicious eye & lip movements. She also keeps arching her back most of the time. The doctor has put her on medication for reflux and asked for an EEG. Does apnea have anything to do with convulsion like behavior.
Avatar n tn Within the first month we noticed times when it appeared she was having a seizure--she would look to be asleep and then both arms would bend and go up and down. This happened a few times in her car seat in the car--once I couldn't get her to stop, although it didn't seem to be harming her any. Then we noticed that when she was going to sleep and I would pat her back she would do the same thing (her body would jerk alot)--occasionaly this would happen without me patting her.

HELLP syndrome can be life-threatening for both the mother and her fetus. Avatar n tn Example, According to the March of Dimes, about 150,000 babies are born with birth defects each year in the United States. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) says that 3 out of every 100 babies born in the United States have some kind of major birth defect and yet Bendectin is not still available in the US. The March of Dimes even supported the return of Bendectin a few years ago.
Avatar n tn i have a 14 month old toddler who was 6 weeks premature. at 2 months was diagnosed and treated for pyloric stynosis. at about 6 months we noticed a strange seizure-like episode that occured off and on, sometimes frequently. this involved blinking her eyes while simultaneously making a clearing of the throat sound. we took her to the emergency room where they ran a few tests for drugs. they then did a mri, eeg, and video monitoring. the neurologist said it was not seizures.
Avatar n tn every day so that if it starts to climb, we immediately start around the clock dosing of ibuprofen/tylenol. We have to carry an emergency kit with us everywhere in case of seizure, because his seizures are complex and long and almost killed him. The pediatrician is concerned and follows him closely. Blood work shows low white cell count...but it's always during a "virus" which can lower the WBC count, so it's hard to know if his count is low when he's not sick.
Avatar f tn I've been told by my doctor that when it comes to being pregnant, it is always going to be very high risk for me because of my seizure disorder. (I had seizures in both of my pregnancies, by the way) Would it be safe for me to have a 3rd child? what do you think?
Avatar f tn born premature at 36 weeks, in NICU for 4 weeks, Apnea/Bradycardia spells came home on Apnea monitor, bleeding of intestines due to protein allergy tried all special formulas and only one that stopped the bleeding was Neocate, had jaundice and diagnosed with reflux. Since he's come home from NICU he has thrived and met all his milestones before he was suppose to. His weight and height are in the 90th percentile. He has not had any fevers or illness.
377493 tn?1356505749 Now, I fully respect that every parent should make the decision right for their child, and I truly believe that the majority are acting in what they believe to be in their childs best interest, but I still don't get it. I look at it this way...prior to having vaccines available, kids died from diseases we are now able to prevent. I look at the infant and child mortality rate in developing countries and see how many of these kids are dying from things preventable by vaccine.
Avatar n tn said, my son is ok. He would like to see us back in two months. Yes, I live in Virginia, USA, and 8 miles from White House. Thanks.

Avatar n tn I had a c-section with my first (breech) and will have another C-section in February. I am also in good physical condition and work out regularly. My recovery was also very quick with my first c-section, I was up and walking that night (never needed follow up pain medicine either) and running 4 miles a day 6 weeks later. It is possible if you doctor says so! Good luck!

6814174 tn?1385052560 Pregnancy Risks Data from several sources raise concerns about the use of Klonopin during pregnancy. Animal Findings In three studies in which Klonopin was administered orally to pregnant rabbits at doses of 0.2, 1, 5 or 10 mg/kg/day (low dose approximately 0.
Avatar f tn They listen to outdated, biased studies that didn't factor in the mothers also partaking in other drugs as well. I totally believe marijuana is a million times safer than any pill that is perfectly legal. The side effects (or lackthereof) say it all!!(: don't let them make you feel bad!! They are ignorant. I would only worry because of the legal repurcussions, not at all because of any detriment to you or your child's health.
Avatar f tn Maybe an ice-pack on her head would work just as well?? They do that for premature babies and some stroke victims. My mother has had a history of fainting, possibly following an earlier MVA. She was evaluated for this. After the last accident (not the last, there have been so many) she started having seizures. The consultant believed this was being triggered by low oxygen levels. Maybe a large part of this is psych related. I don't know.
284738 tn?1283110419 I am NOT saying this is your case, but I have seen some very educated, rational people who are blind to obvious problems in their children. That being said, it does seem very premature and irresponsible to be making assertions like this. It's one thing to say that Aubree is behind in ____ (such as making eye contact); it's a completely other thing to say she is exhibiting early signs of autism.
467840 tn?1242305644 No seizures since the initial ones while she was in the hospital and she has been off seizure meds since september. She is very alert and responds to everything. Her main issues are sitting up, crawling, just maintaining any kind of balance. I am so hopeful that she will eventually figure it all out, but it is so hard to watch her sister running around everywhere while Ella just can watch her.
1346146 tn?1299364097 What do I do for that? Issue 2 is I also have an autoimmune disease(ankylosing spondylitis) and a seizure disorder along with migraines and I have sucessfully been off all meds since TTC and being pregnant however, I am having problems with my disease. It has basically returned with a vengence. I am in a lot of pain. My migraines have returned as well. So far seizures have been at bay.(I have simple partial seizures) I know I can handle it till baby is born.
Avatar m tn He has been in perfect health but just out of the blue had a grand mal seizure. I took him to the veterinary hospital as it was in the evening and he had two more there. Within 24 hours they got me in to see a neurologist and now he's being treated for a bad case of Valley Fever. He drinks a ton and eats more, but my biggest concern is his lethargy and lack of coordination. It takes him so much effort to get up, particularly the hind legs; it's so sad to watch.
Avatar n tn I must tell you that even though her prognosis was NIL at five months and I was told she would be a veggie, she is walking, unaided, can tumble and finaslly jump on her trampoline(still a work in progress). She has her own computer and uses it, in Kindergarten and doing 1st grade work. In other words, she is a wonder of therapy and a lot of love, Sorry, just had to brag.
331213 tn?1217168431 How is everyone doing today? I woke up in a funky mood. I'm sort of depressed...I feel like I'm not doing as much as I could to ensure that I have a healthy pregnancy and that my baby is okay. I only had my HCG levels tested once, and when I did they gave me a EDD of July 4th. That was on the 3rd. I go for an ultrasound tomorrow but I'm just so scared that something is going to be wrong. I want nothing more than for my baby to be healthy and *stick*!!! Does anyone else smoke??
Avatar n tn There is a very wide range of normal for babies in development. And sometimes things aren't as they appear. For instance, my oldest son started walking at 10 months and literally started running the same day. He had a very short crawling period and was steady on his feet right away. Sounds great, right? No. A couple of years later it turns out he has sensory integration disorder which is a developmental delay of the nervous system.
Avatar f tn Also, many studies have shown that women with a poor diet in pregnancy have a higher risk of r complications in delivery, are more likely to have babies with issues and baby is more likely to be obese in childhood. There are also some studies that shoe a link between the preservatives used in fast food and children with an duties or severe learning disabilities.
1322693 tn?1308157496 In fact, over the last few years (b4 dx) I noticed that I would go in the water less and less b/c I just couldn't tolerate the cold. At one time in my life I was called a fish b/c I was in the water so often. I thought it was due to just getting older...but I noticed this time that I could tolerate it even less. Most of my upper body could take it but my feet would just be absolutely painful!! So now I lie on the beach and my DH is out there with the kids swimming.
Avatar n tn Yea, my SIL had her first in like 45 minutes and her second in about an hour. I just have a feeling i wont be so lucky. Just a feeling. I was watching Regis and Kellie last friday and a lady from Canada called in. Kellie asked about their maternity leave and they get 1 year and are about to start getting 2 i think. I am so jealous! I am getting my 12 weeks at 60% pay, but that is only until the doctor releases me and then no pay! What is wrong with this picture?
Avatar n tn about his but I was hoping that someone may have seen this in their babies before or know something about it. She tends to do it most often when she is tired but also I have noticed it when she is playing at times. Its almost like she is trying to shake something out. On a different note, I am officially out of my TWW, I started spotting yesterday. Oh well maybe next month.
440728 tn?1234648902 Less than a minute later my son had a seizure on the table in front of the doc. The doc didn't even care and told me that's normal for infants! **** I need to find better doctors. Any suggestions???
