safe heartburn medicine during pregnancy

My doctor gave me a list of approved medicines, however it says to avoid during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Here are a few of the items on the list. Cough/Cold: Robitussin (cough), Sucrets and Vick's Throat Lozenges Its says do not take "SA' (Sustained action) forms of these drugs or the "Multi-symptom" forms of these drugs.

The first time I had heartburn I took Prilosec. It works wonders! It's a 24 hour medicine. I highly recommend it and it's safe during pregnancy.

You can eat them but make sure you have some heartburn medicine somewhere close by. You'll probably get horrible heartburn!

I have awful heartburn and acid reflux. I usually take some tums with a little bit of milk and make sure I sit up afterwards. I have severe nausea too and the heartburn always makes me get sick again. It's common in pregnancy... but I know how bad it *****!

I take medicine for heartburn too. And I take a Tylenol if my headaches get to bad.

Before I got pregnant I had horrible heartburn and I took prescription omeprozol to treat it (forgot how to spell it) and it worked wonders, since I have been pregnant I haven't really had heartburn so I don't know if it's safe to take during pregnancy but I would definitely ask your doctor. If it is safe you can either get it prescribed or over the counter in lower doses at pretty much any store with medicine.

I recently went to my drs office and mentioned that I was feeling nauseated again at 36 weeks. He stated that it's due to indigestion and I brought up how I used to be on an acid reflux medicine called protonix before getting pregnant but discontinued use of it after finding out. Tums are really safe for heartburn during your pregnancy, I usually take them dont need them alot but there the safe ones for pregnancy since other brands might contain penicillin.

which over-the-counter antacid/heartburn medicine worked best for you?? I get it pretty often, and im making chili for dinner so i know im really gunna need something to help with it tonight. :) I'm 28 weeks and never had any issues with acid reflex or heartburn till a few weeks ago and now some night its gets so bad that it keeps me up at night. I REALLY dont want to take any medicine during my pregnancy, but this is something i just cant solve myself. tried everything already.

Zantac is a over the counter pregnancy safe medicine that I take for extreme heartburn and it works amazing. It's a tiny little pill that you swallow.

I had heartburn so bad during my first trimester that it sent me to the ER several times. I took Pepsid AC the doctors said it was safe during pregnancy that is the only thing that worked for me. I tried everything from Zantac to home remedies but nothing worked besides the pepsid. Its over the counter. For the nausea i pretty much just ate small portions and often. I am 31 weeks and still most morning get nauseous. Hope this help hang in there hope it gets better.

Most OBs/midwives can give you a list of over-the-counter medications that are safe to take during pregnancy. Always check if you're unsure though; it's always safer to avoid it completely if you don't know if it will harm the baby.

Try zantac twice a day. I had heartburn so bad until beginning of 3rd trimester.

Yes, it's safe. I had a pre exsisting acid problem before pregnancy, my dr told me zantac is the safe over the counter medicine to take.

I have to disagree with the tylenol cold above. Tylenol is safe during pregnancy, but the cold medications in tylenol cold are not.

I was hospitalised last week with heartburn so you gave my sympathy. I can recommend a glass of milk to soothe the pain and yes you can take antacids.
