Avatar f tn No. Prozac stays in the body for nearly a month unlike the other SSRIs and SNRIs which leave the body within hours, so it has a natural taper, and if you combine that with a normal taper it does have the least amount of reported withdrawal problems in this category, but you also have to know that we're all different. So it's theoretically possible your brain is so sensitive to artificially altering serotonin that something could happen, but you'd be in a very small group of people.
Avatar f tn I'm trying to get off Paxil by cross tapering with Prozac to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Right now I'm on 10mg paxil. but I'm not sure how to proceed? My doctor said to take 20mg prozac along with 10 paxil for a month which I don't agree with. Thats because I think if prozac stays that long in my system I will also have trouble getting off of it. So my plan is: Week 1) 10mg paxil 10mg prozac. Week 2) 5mg paxil 20mg prozac. Week 3) 0mg paxil 20mg prozac. then stop.
Avatar f tn Remeron is extremely sedating, while prozac can be stimulating, and you could still be in withdrawal as well -- you don't know because you went on another medication instead of slowly tapering and letting the withdrawal play itself out. Taking another class of medication might mitigate the feelings of withdrawal, but doesn't do anything physiologically to stop them. Obsessive thoughts is a classic side effect of Paxil, and of its withdrawal as well.
Avatar n tn I am experiencing low blood sugar problems with Prozac withdrawal. Has anyone experienced low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with Prozac withdrawal? If so did it eventually go away and how did you handle it?
1330182 tn?1279815900 Like cj29, I sympathize with your distress. I didn't have any problem discontinuing Prozac, but was taking a small dose of clonazapam at the same time, which may have helped. It is darn hard to figure out if anxiety and digestive issues are caused by the anxiety disorder or withdrawal from Prozac. My money is on the disorder. Can't believe hormone issues are the culprit. Always good to rule out physical sources of discomfort.
1288270 tn?1301287612 This either results in fewer withdrawal problems, or the withdrawal happens later down the road, maybe a month later. Lexapro leaves the body quite a bit more quickly, and so you are much more subject to a bad withdrawal by quitting abruptly. None of these should be quit abruptly, but the short half life ones especially so.
470885 tn?1326329037 First, a GP is not an expert on ssris. Even most psychiatrists haven't a clue. Second, all ssris have withdrawal problems, and although it's true Celexa has been easier on the whole than, say, Paxil, or Effexor, if you go on withdrawal websites you'll still see plenty of severe withdrawal problems. He's put you on Prozac because it's a long-lasting ssri, whereas all the others are very short lived in the body; usually they'll use liquid Prozac so they can wean slowly.
Avatar n tn 5 mg daily use of xanax prescribed to combat the agitation caused by Prozac I have completely tapered off xanax, I have begun experiencing muscle contractions in my legs at night, difficulty going to sleep and staying asleep. I have been told that these sypmtoms can last for up to a year. Is that true and if so what causes that? I no longer take Prozac.
Avatar n tn Keep in mind that Prozac is different from the other medications you read about. Prozac stays in the body for a long time, and takes a month or two before any withdrawal would be noticed. Therefore, you won't see much information about Prozac withdrawal because if it happens it happens somewhere down the line, and would probably be misdiagnosed as a relapse, not withdrawal.
Avatar f tn When should i be feeling the feel good effects of prozac i'm coming up to 4 weeks tomorrow and at first felt ok but have gone a little down hill i was just wondering weather its my body trying to adjust to the med. I'm currently taking 20mg in the morning does anybody think this needs to be upped if i have felt good and now gone a little down.I also take omega 3 fish oil and vitamin b complex. having few side effects off the prozac shakes feeling sick and diarrhea.
Avatar f tn Wow this withdrawal is sooo hard. I was taking Prozac for panic attacks and OCD. I was being brave but didn't mentally prepare for this. I haven't really slept in the last week and have been having major stomach problems and OCD. I also have this weird thing where I stop breathing and when I realize I've stopped breathing I would take a big breath and that is almost every 5 minutes, and it happens in my sleep too.
Avatar f tn t tell which problems are withdrawal from the first med and which are side effects of the new med. By the way, Paxil is notorious for weight gain -- I gained a lot of weight on it. What you need is a good psychiatrist, as it sounds like you're trying to do this with a general practitioner.
Avatar m tn I have just gotten off Paxil 20 mg after 20 years. I will have to say I had terrible side effects. You didn't say much about getting off Paxil. Did you have as hard a time as I did. I am off 2 ½ months and have terrible sweating and heart palpitations until this day. Did you have that and did it ever pass? Don't know about the ejac's part as I am female. But, I still to not have desire for sex.
Avatar f tn You say you were on Lexapro for a long time? Is that right? How did you stop taking it, abruptly or a slow taper taking as long as you needed to (here's hoping Lexapro has a liquid, because one of the hard things about only needing such a low dose is it's hard to break pills to do a taper off). I'm asking because some of the effects you're having sound more like withdrawal effects than the usual start-up effects of Prozac.
Avatar n tn Taking leave of absence this semester to get well. Doctor put hiim on prozac because easier withdrawal symptoms. Been on it 3 weeks and than asked to get off it (I still think it's the adderall causing problems) We asked her to wean him off . She just took him off completely. Now that you know a little of the med background do you think that is ok just to take him off cold turkey? He had been off the adderall for 5 days befire coming home and looked great....
Avatar m tn s also possibly that your brain is suffering a withdrawal from the Prozac, although it stays in the body longer than other ssris and as such if it has major withdrawal problems it occurs later. And it's possibly that you've never solved your underlying problem through therapy or blind luck and are just covering up the symptoms with the drugs and now it's coming back as you go down on the Prozac.
Avatar m tn d still want to stop the Prozac until the withdrawal goes away, otherwise how are you going to properly evaluate how the Prozac makes you feel? This is my opinion, but you have do it with a psychiatrist, and since your psychiatrist has already stated there would be no side effects, a statement that can't be backed up by any real world evidence given how prevalent withdrawal is, you've got a bad doctor. Just having a degree does not a good doctor make.
Avatar f tn The only exception would be if the new drug were being introduced specifically to try to deal with an out of control withdrawal, as Prozac sometimes is used because its long half life in the body makes it easier for most to quit so sometimes when someone is having a terrible withdrawal Prozac will be tried to get the person on Prozac, hope that does the trick, and then they can taper off the Prozac. This generally only works for serotonin-affecting meds, and wellbutrin isn't one of those.
1472535 tn?1287684045 I think Prozac has the longest half life of any of the SSRIs, so I don't think being off of it a day would cause anything. I have a problem forgetting to take my meds, and my doctor told me that Prozac is good in that it stays in your body for quite a while, like 5 weeks or something after you stop taking it completely, so if you miss doses on it it's not as bad as if you missed on something else.
Avatar m tn t necessarily work the same as it would with a pure ssri, which prozac is. Some people use prozac to take people off other ssris because it has a longer life in the body, but you still have to taper off it, too, but since Effexor also targets norepinephrine receptors, not just serotonin as prozac does, I don't know if this works. As for your shrink saying it doesn't sound like withdrawal, they almost always say that. They really are clueless on withdrawal.
Avatar m tn I hope this is in the correct thread; I tried to find a thread dedicated to just withdrawal from Tramadol but didn't find it. Please redirect me if I'm in the wrong place. I started Tramadol a year ago not realizing it was addictive.
Avatar f tn I remember something vaguley that the withdrawal of Prozac can bring on orginal symptoms and that they will pass with the withdrawal process. Or am I feeling like this because I need prozac and I should never have come off and never will come off?????? I also have the physical symptons of bloating , stomach cramps insomnia, vivd dreams etc but accept that these will go away in time. But the question is am I a chronicly unhappy person or is it just the withdrawal and it will pass?
Avatar f tn My guess is that this is the Effexor withdrawal, not the Prozac, as the Prozac will take about 4-6 weeks usually to start working. I also don't think it will help much with the Effexor withdrawal, as it's in a different class of drugs, no two drugs work the same or target the same neurotransmitter receptors, and you might get new side effects while getting used to the Prozac.
Avatar f tn I have stopped prozac as well.. I was on it from 2006-2008 after switching from Zoloft ( it pooped out) In the spring of 2008, I began having hot flashes and heart palpitations. I was 39 at the time, so I thought it may be perimenopause. I also was having light/scant menstrual cycles. I did, however, add strattera to the mix which may have caused problems ( Strattera and Prozac are chemical cousins and sometimes don't play well together) I added the strattera under my pdocs supervision.
459689 tn?1276570143 I also stopped taking a benzo about 2 months ago and had little problems, the small dose of Prozac was my last med. When I woke up about an hour ago I did take one, I did not know what else to do. My doctor told me that I could stop taking it abrubtly and my body would ween itself naturally because it is stored in the body and would slowly leave my system, I was on a taper schedule to stop the benzo.
