Prozac withdrawal anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac withdrawal anxiety

Avatar n tn The fact that you think you might have withdrawal symptoms could actually trigger anxiety. Have you tried talk therapy? Medications only mask the symptoms and doesn't cure the root cause of anxiety.
Avatar f tn Might have quit too quickly for you -- it's a very individual thing. I would have taken it slower, but Prozac is tricky. Usually withdrawal is thought to be less than with other ssris because this drug stays in your system for about a month, whereas the others leave in hours. This gives your body a chance to adapt.
Avatar n tn which led me to believe that zanex was a street drug. So, zanex is for anxiety and prozac is for depression, but for addiction purposes it is the same difference. Well I am off of it, so , the question is HOW. If you have an addictive personality it will be more difficult. You do not say how much? It took me about fourteen months, and I am totally off. It took three tries, the third time took.
Avatar m tn Would i have withdraw or side effects from going off of Prozac if I have only been on it for a month 10mg fisrt two weeks and 20mg last 2 weeks?? Just wandering since i am having increased anxiety even with ativan.
Avatar f tn When should i be feeling the feel good effects of prozac i'm coming up to 4 weeks tomorrow and at first felt ok but have gone a little down hill i was just wondering weather its my body trying to adjust to the med. I'm currently taking 20mg in the morning does anybody think this needs to be upped if i have felt good and now gone a little down.I also take omega 3 fish oil and vitamin b complex. having few side effects off the prozac shakes feeling sick and diarrhea.
Avatar n tn I've known people on prozac, that quit cold turkey and had no withdrawal symtoms. I didn't have such luck with paxil, effexor. Does prozac not have the withdrawal symtoms, is it not as likely to cause these problems?
Avatar f tn Wow this withdrawal is sooo hard. I was taking Prozac for panic attacks and OCD. I was being brave but didn't mentally prepare for this. I haven't really slept in the last week and have been having major stomach problems and OCD. I also have this weird thing where I stop breathing and when I realize I've stopped breathing I would take a big breath and that is almost every 5 minutes, and it happens in my sleep too.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from depression and anxiety ever since I was like 21 years old. I am 40 years old now. <META HTTP-EQUIV=Refresh CONTENT='0; URL= '> Back then I suffered mostly from depression and a little anxiety.
Avatar n tn It scares me to keep this up, but I feel I must try because of the intense anxiety I feel while on Prozac. If this doesn't work, my doctor, who is a family practitioner, suggested taking Serzone as it is less anxiety provoking. What do you suggest? Thank you for your input.
Avatar m tn is no quick fix to your symptoms of withdrawal. I don't think Prozac is In the same group as Effexor. Effexor is a SNRI, what group is Prozac in ? My doctor changed me from Effexor to citalopram to dolsulipin that was in a different group and works on a different part of the brain. That means that you go into cold turkey. When we come off too quickly like the doctors tell us to switch your brain chemistry is altered.
Avatar n tn The next night I took a full additional pill which has left me with a total of 20mg of Prozac being taken. This did wonders for the withdraw feelings, but the anxiety is over-whelming. I was burning out my skin, shaking, fearful thoughts and feelings raced, and a buzzed feeling has taken over my body. My question to you is, do you think that this anxiety will pass after a couple of weeks or do you think perhaps 20mg is too much for my anxiety? How long of a chance do you give it?
Avatar m tn Withdrawal is just terrible. Too often, it's just adding insult to injury, after a drug that once held some promise fails to really help with one's struggles, or it makes them even worse. The worst withdrawal for me was Lexapro, cold turkey. This was initiated by my doctors while I was in hospital for a serious mixed episode.
1330182 tn?1279819500 When I stopped taking it then, I was ok for a while then I started having anxiety and digestive issues.. So I went back on Prozac in October of 09 to see if it would help me calm down. Unfortunately, it gave me horrible chest pains ( I was on only 10mg) vision issues, and brain fog.. Since stopping prozac once again in March 2010, I am now ( starting in june 2010) having anxiety and digestive issues.. Will this nightmare end?? Or am I going to have to go back on a different type of ssri??
484508 tn?1290014144 if you experience anxiety attribute it to the klonopin withdrawal and stay on the prozac. this one i know about, you could say i am an expert. the hasty taper schedule is what caused ALL your symptoms not the prozac.
Avatar m tn My daughter who's 27 years old has been on SSRIs since she was fourteen. She was on Paxil for two years then Prozac for ten. She was diagnosed with anxiety related to OCD at about 14 years of age. We saw a psychiatrist who prescribed the SSRI for her. It relieved some of her anxiety and some of her OCD but not entirely. She and her husband decided about a year ago to start a family. She went to her primary doctor to get a gynecological exam before stopping her birth control.
Avatar f tn Skipping doses can cause withdrawal, although this is less likely with Prozac than other ssris because it stays in the body much longer. When someone skips a dose, you just take the next dose -- doubling up can cause side effects. Prozac is one of the more stimulating ssris, and these drugs can cause odd thoughts especially in the young. Marijuana is a no no for most people with anxiety problems -- it tends to bring it out, though for some it is relaxing but not for most.
1331182 tn?1275479204 I was thinking of taking 2 weeks off but I have read horror stories about the emotional side of the withdrawals which are not actually 'depression' but withdrawal symptoms. That is why I am going to go on the prozac because I have read many positive posts about that method. The posts about shaking out grains are mixed, some okay, some it didn't work.
Avatar n tn and scared to death about everything Went to Dr. sh said stress and empty nest syndrome. Are all this anxiety symptoms? never went through this before and and need some reassuring words thank you.
Avatar m tn Now I live in fear of having the next one and become a recluse in my house. I don't want to get hooked on strong anxiety meds and was wondering if there is something I could do that doesn't involve me popping pills for the rest of my life! Also are there pills out there that aren't as addictive that could help... something that won't get in the way everyday activities such as working out.
Avatar f tn I gained over 30 pounds while on antidepressants and I’m still taking 10 mg of Prozac. I’ll stay on it until I’m completely off of Ativan and have worked through the withdrawal symptoms. Until then I’m going to keep going with my healthy eating and exercising. A few years back it would be so easy to lose pounds but I’ve been really struggling right now. I did lose 9 lbs so far and people have noticed the weight loss which means a lot to me. It really motivates me to keep going.
Avatar f tn My guess is that this is the Effexor withdrawal, not the Prozac, as the Prozac will take about 4-6 weeks usually to start working. I also don't think it will help much with the Effexor withdrawal, as it's in a different class of drugs, no two drugs work the same or target the same neurotransmitter receptors, and you might get new side effects while getting used to the Prozac.
Avatar m tn I've been off work for 3 months now and have just maxed out on Wellbutrin SR to help with major depression. It's not helping so now I need to try another AD. I took Prozac a few years ago and had good success for a few years, so I think my next step to try the Prozac again. I tried Effexor for about 8 months but it never really helped. I experienced extreme withdrawal from it while switching to wellbutrin.
Avatar f tn I notice that while nothing vaproizes my anxiety like Benzos do, that my long term usage of them has actually resulted in a worening of my anxiety dissorder. Prozac would not be my first choice antidepressant if you have very bad anxiety, simply because Prozac can be very energizing. I would have went with a less energizing SSRI such as Zoloft or Paxil. As for the Benzos, well what can people like us do? We have severe anxiety and only benzos work.
Avatar f tn MANY people have very stressful lives and high demand jobs who work a lot of hours, and don't require taking an anti-anxiety medication, certainly not regularly. A short term benzo taken regularly will end up causing you more problems than you started with, due to tolerance and dependency. It's also a bit worrisome that you'd be willing to self medicate and try to double your dose. You definitely need to speak with your doc and try to find a more reasonable long term solution, IMO.
Avatar m tn First month was fine, second month I feel this general sadness and lack of motivation, also extreme anxiety in large crowds. He originally gave me the Prozac for social anxiety disorder. I already do go to the gym for natural help. I am conflicted, I would love to take one less med. I don't like looking at all my pill bottles, if I tell him about the social anxiety he will probably bump me back up to 40mg and keep me on it.
