m on 10mg of Prozac and have noticed some weight gain within the past 2 months or so and my doctor has suggested I start taking Wellbutrin along with the Prozac but my biggest concern is having panic attacks. I suffer from panic disorder w/ agoraphobia and the Prozac has been helping but I'm afraid that adding on the Wellbutrin may counteract that. (I know it is considered a stimulant for a lot of people - hence the usual weight loss.

Wellbutrin is often a combination drug used with an SSRI like Prozac. Wellbutrin will work twice as must at inhibiting your dopamine reuptake than the neurepinephrine (noradrenaline) reuptake which will most likely cause withdrawal symptoms especially with the well-being feeling of the dopamine and the energy from the norepinephrine reuptake inhibition. Anyway, yeah I suggest tapering off slowly if you want to quit Wellbutrin but it can also work great as a combo with Prozac.
What I meant was, you've been on both Prozac and wellbutrin. Wellbutrin is often combined with an ssri to combat sexual and weight gain side effects. But as you taper down on the Prozac, you're mostly on the wellbutrin, and it's possible without the counterbalance of the ssri you're feeling the full effects of the stimulating qualities of the wellbutrin, which isn't generally used for anxiety problems for this reason.
Like you i am on Wellbutrin 150 mg amd 20mg of Prozac i do well on both have been for 2 yrs now. The prozac makes me tired i tried no prozac and 1 wellbutrin in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. I had more energy but i was snapping at everyone and being hateful so went back on the prozac my Dr. said the prozac dosnt make you tired but my body says the different.
I was taking 60 mg of Prozac and went down to 40 mg for a couple weeks then started Wellbutrin 150xl and was able to get off the Prozac. They had me take 20 mg for 3 days along with the Wellbutrin then quit the Prozac.
i just want to discontinue the wellbutrin and go back to taking my prozac, but the last dr i saw said that i had to wean off the wellbutrin comletely before i can even start my prozac..so that means it will be atleast ten days before i can START to get back to normal. i wanted to know can i go ahead and start my prozac while weaning off the wellbutrin and are there gonna be side effects if i were to just stop taking the wellbutrtin without weaning?
im down from 50 mg to 20 mg of proxac now,,,i feel tired all the time but i kinda did on the higher dose of prozac i have lost some weight,but even with the wellbutrin i still feel some depression..sex drive is better,i was put on the estradoil estrogen patch and im not to sure about it..i dont know why i would feel some depression as im on the wellbutrin and im trying not to take much adderall.i dont see my pshy till sept and i tried to call but tey ddint return my call...
got a new dr in may cause old one retired he had me try to up prozac and trouble with that so his asso. had me totally stop the prozac and go on wellbutrin sr 150am and pm,,,,after a week i was having prozac withdrawals so back on prozac i went and still on wellbutrin to be honest i dont know if my depression is something else cause neither brought me up or were stimulating..my new dt thinks i have slight add..anywayas i have been tapering off the prozac 10 mg a week per dr...
ve read that wellbutrin takes about 4 weeks to fully kick in, and that it may counteract the sexual dysfunction caused by a straight SSRI such as prozac. It is worth noting that wellbutrin is a reuptake inhibitor for dopamine and noradrenaline (also called norepinephrine), but not for serotonin. Prozac is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

EtteBette is right ~ trust your doctor, give the prozac a chance, it may take time for it to begin working. Not all ssri's (one type of antidepressant/family that includes paxil, prozac, zoloft, effexor, etc.) make you in to a zombie.
Prozac is not a new medication. I know several people that are on it for years now with very good results! Just know that it may take 3-6 weeks to see an effect, and maybe even an increase in the dosage. Many people take 20 m.g.
A lot of people don't get withdrawal. A lot do. Those two drugs aren't the worst for withdrawals. Prozac stays in the body for about a month, whereas the other ssris such as Zoloft leave in a matter of a day or less. So if there is going to be a withdrawal from Prozac, it's usually so long after quitting that shrinks probably don't attribute it to the Prozac.
m a 16 year old boy and i was prescribed topamax 25mg for migraines over a year ago. A few months ago i was also prescribed wellbutrin 300mg and prozac 10mg for depression and anxiety. When I first started taking the topamax i hardly sweated. I did start sweating a fair amount before taking the wellbutrin and prozac but the sweating has just increased since then and i've been getting large stains on my armpits just from sitting in class.
Hi there, I read through your comments and am experiencing the same. I was taking Prozac and it worked really well on my OCD and anxiety. I gained 30 lbs from taking Prozac, and I noticed I was always so tired. My Dr switched me to Wellbutrin. I'm on 100 mg and I take two a day, plus one Prozac. I'm on my 3rd week now. I felt pretty good on the 3rd and 4th day. I noticed I'm able to wake up early in the morning and that I had more energy. I even lost 5 lbs so far.
I wasn't on anything before and I got put on wellbutrin, prozac and klonipin. I took prozac for a long time before. The only thing I never took before was the wellbutrin. I am still having these twitches all over my body. I am also extremely aggitated. I have been talking to my physician, but he doesn't know. I don't see my psychiatrist for a few more weeks. This is really scaring me. I hope it is the wellbutrin.
A lot of people do not have success with Welbutrin but most people have positive results with Prozac. There are so many good antidpressants available and sometimes it takes time to find the correct combination for you. I understand your urgency with vacation coming up. I would really consider contacting my doctor and follow his advise.
MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON WELLBUTRIN, I HAVE BEEN TAKING 20 MG PROZAC FOR A YEAR.. SHE TOLD ME TO JUST QUIT TAKING THE PROZAC ALL TOGETHER..
Its not the Wellbutrin, it's probably the Prozac.
of Celexa with success, finally. I have stopped Effexor a couple of times and I went on Wellbutrin and had a horrible experience...I was so mean! and depressed! But, I have heard the drug help alot of people...you'll never know until you try it.
I've had mild depression, most likely brought about by life events, and I've had a couple of rounds of clinical depression. The current round of clinical depression I decided to try a chemical solution, since nothing else was helping. Prozac knocked me way way down; my doctor got me of off that in quick order, and then I tried effexor (aka venlafaxine). For the first 4-5 weeks I had side effects, nearly bad enough to consider quitting - and then it started kicking in.
I've been to hell and back when it comes to depression medications. I've been from through Celexa, Paxil, an antipsycotic called Perphenazine, Lithium, Currently take Wellbutrin and Clonezepam and I"m about at the end of my rope. Every SSRI that I took made me totally impotent and at the age of 25 I'm not willing to give up my sex drive without a fight. I fear that I have to accept that SSRIs are the medications that I respond best to.
