Common Questions and Answers about Prozac generic problems

prozac

Avatar f tn Is the generic version of Prozac as good as the name brand one? Any experience with either?
Avatar f tn I have been on both Prozac and generic Prozac in the past. I thought it was just a coincidence but the brand name Prozac worked much better than the generic for me. My doctor confirmed this and said she didn't believe the generic form was as effective. Anyone else have any experience with this?
822153 tn?1333062995 Hi tomskat, I just posted on the depression forum that I noticed a difference in Prozac and the generic form (fluxientine sp?) Prozac worked wonderfully for me were the generic form didn't do me any good. I spoke with my doctor (not the one who perscribed either med to me) about this and she agreed and said the generic Prozac is not as effective. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Prozac has been generic for a very long time, there are several companies now making generic versions. Precisely which were your before and after brands of generic prozac (fluoxetine hydrochloride)?
Avatar f tn Generic Prozac is really cheap. Cost shouldn't be a factor, only whether you feel your life is so impacted by your problems that you need the med.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone takes or has taken the generic prozac that is white and has green writing saying "pliva". It is a capsule that comes in 20 or 10mg. If so, any success? Please let me know, thanks.
1325193 tn?1450127436 About 6 months ago, because of insurance reasons, I had to switch to Citlapram, sorry I know its misspelled. After always feeling tired and hungry, my doctor switched me to generic prozac 5 days ago. I had no problems until today, when I was driving and my stomach hurt bad to the point of diarrea, misspelled again. Anyway, I got pretty anxious. I was wondering if I am just now having a reaction to the med change, like a withdrawal or something, or a case of the stomach flu.
Avatar m tn Try the generic version of prozac..called fluoxetine. It comes in white tablets. Pills and capsules seem to vary in their effects with this medication.
Avatar m tn I recently developed anxiety and was prescribed Prozac (generic) and Klonopin (generic). The Klonopin has been given until the Prozac starts to work. I have taken this twice in 2 weeks and like eveyone on here do not like being on medication. Does anyone have experience with anxiety in the short term. Is this something that with treatment will subside over a few months and allow me to stop the medication? Also how long have people felt that Prozac takes to really be effective.
Avatar n tn Has any one ever ordered generic Paxil successfully on line? I want to continue with the Paxil but it's a bit pricey.
Avatar f tn In the U.S., if there is a generic for a drug and not being on the name brand won't cause problems, they usually write the Rx for the generic so the pharmacy that fills the order knows it's ok with the doctor to give the generic, otherwise the pharmacy has to call and check with the doctor to make sure it's ok to give the generic, which is a waste of everyone's time.
Avatar m tn Yes, you can stop the adderall. The others you can not stop, but must be slowly taken off them. HOWEVER, I think you reason for your problems is the prozac. I quote: "We will cover more details later, but for now just remember this: Prozac and Paxil both significantly block the pathway for the metabolism of Adderall and all the amphetamine products. [Wellbutrin and Cymbalta can block 2D6 at their higher doses.
Avatar f tn I was hoping you might add "anti-depressant" to the treatment section. I'm currently taking Fluvoxamine (Luvox) so I'm using "prozac" as a stand in, but I think a generic option for anti-depressants, or SSRIs would be helpful.
Avatar f tn I was taking 40 mg prozac, 60 mg dexedrine, and taking xanex as needed. I just changed the prozac to 150 mg effexor, because my Insurance co. wouldn't let me continue getting brand name prozac (the generic brand didn't work the same. I had no problem changing over to effexor, no withdrawal effects from prozac. What made you get off the meds? That's wonderful you are no longer depressed. I don't think I will ever get off the anti-depressants.
Avatar f tn Did he have these night time problems before the addition of Prozac? I am guessing he did not for the reason given below. Get him off the Prozac (but do so slowly). The Prozac blocks the liver pathways for the stim meds and will make things worse. This is a quote from Dr. Charles Parker. I will private message you the site as I can't post it here.
3426232 tn?1347334614 I would only do this with a good psychiatrist who, after you question the person, makes you comfortable that he or she completely understands the protocols for doing this and for reacting to any problems you may have -- and you might not have any problems, so who knows? But you don't want to do this with one of the many doctors and psychiatrists who are clueless or in denial that this can be a long, careful process and not a simple one size fits all situation.
Avatar f tn Increased sweating is a common side effect of Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic for Prozac so it is the exact same thing). For most patients the sweating settles down after a month or two after start of therapy...but not for all. Some patients that struggle with the sweating issue with take their Prozac at bedtime to try to minimize this side effect, but even that doesn't always work. Keep in mind that there are other anti-anxiety/depression choices out there if you are willing to try.
3140085 tn?1342843508 Lamictal is generic in the US... lamotrigine is the generic name. I wouldn't try lamotrigine without a doctor as it has to be increased very slowly due to the risk of the Stevens-Johnson rash.
1243620 tn?1274790697 In addition to a stable, low dose of birth control pills, another thing that may help you is a low dose of an SSRI (which is a family of anti-depressants that increase serotonin levels in your brain) examples of these are prozac, paxil, celexa etc. all of which are generic = cheap and can help tons with PMDD. Prozac specifically (paraoxetine is the generic name) has been studied extensively for PMS/PMDD and has been shown to help many women.
Avatar f tn I never had anxiety till I started taking Prozac, Im taking Prozac for severe depression but ever since being on it anxiety has been my major problem, I can't go a day without a panic attack or feeling sick due to anxiety, I'm throwing up from anxiety at least once a week and I'm constantly trembling and shaking and having paranoid thoughts. Prozac destroyed more than it fixed for me.
Avatar n tn I've been taking Fluoxetine (generic Prozac) for a few years now and about 6 months ago I upped my dosage. My sex drive on the lower dose was already low, but now it's almost non-existent. At first it wasn't a problem because I haven't been seeing anyone, but now that I am I would really like to try and fix this problem. Since I'm female feel like this is going to be a more difficult process. Would anyone know of any supplements that can help this side effect??
