Prozac and cold medicine

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac and cold medicine

prozac

Avatar f tn I just found out that I am 6 week pregnant and I am worried because I took ambien, prozac (20 mg), cold medicine, claritin (allergy meds) and I drank a few beers over the holiday. I also had a dental xray. Should I be worried???
1422233 tn?1282701102 This question could also qualify as a depression one so I hope it's ok to post it here. I'm a 22 year old female & have anxiety, depression, & OCD. I have been on Paxil (the generic brand) for about three years now. A couple of weeks ago I started to feel like it wasn't working for me anymore. I can feel the anxiety & I get down. It's not as bad as before I was on the Paxil, but I think I need a change. I have a Doctors' appointment this week.
Avatar m tn Celexa tends to be a better med generally for anxiety than Prozac because Prozac tends to be stimulating, though Prozac is considered an easier med to take and especially to stop taking. If you quit Celexa cold turkey and just switched to Prozac, you could be suffering from withdrawal, or it cold be side effects of Prozac, or it could be the problem I mentioned, that Prozac tends not to work as well when anxiety is the main problem, though for some it works fine. Lots to consider.
459689 tn?1276570143 Hmmmmmmm. I honestly don't know if this is Prozac related or not. What DOES appear to be the case is that your medication schedule (or lack if it ) is entirely self-guided, so there may be something similar to that business of taking ALL the antibiotic medicine even if you THINK the problem is long gone. Just a guess. But that said, you might be able to look back at the onset of the problem and see if you find any "suspects" that could have been a trigger.
Avatar n tn I realize that this thread was a long time ago but I was wondering if you ever did switch from Cymbalta to Prozac, and if so did you do cold turkey or wean and how it went.
Avatar f tn When I started my medication, I felt as if I got a new life as I was not feeling cold any more and my fever also went away. I was feeling good in everyway. But, almost after one and half month, I started having those symptoms again and I also started suffering from depression, too much irritation, irregular menstrual cycle and pressure in my head.
Avatar n tn They did chest and lung X-rays my regular doctor has done blood work and everything came back fine so she said it is anxiety and put me on 10 mf of Prozac and 10 mg Singular. It has been 3 weeks and still having some difficulty breathing is that normal? I think it is getting better but then my anxiety kicks in. I have never had a problem with anxiety before. I was fine before the cold and now in this situation ever since.
Avatar f tn My wife is 68 and has m.s. she takes prozac, lorazepam for nerves and sleeping, seroquel for major mood swings and now aricept. Is this to much medicine to take together.
Avatar m tn I'm just wondering what Prozac is and what it actually does to help anxiety/depression. Can you get buy it over-the-counter, or is it prescription-only?
1162258 tn?1306916207 The way I look at it, It is bad enough I have not slept in over a month, but to add the flu/cold is just not right and I need to be able to function and work until I have my baby.( No one else pays my bills but me! No work=not paying mortgage) If its only a few days when you are miserable. I do not see the harm...but others may feel different.
1798419 tn?1315810427 is wrong because medication affects everyone differently. I was on prozac to and just stopped taking it cold turkey i've been having crying outbursts and about the same as you. My doctor prescribed me effexor but i refuse to take it because he doesnt know what he's talking about, you know your own body, they dont. You know your mind and everything else , they don't. They can try to figure it out but there never going to really know.
Avatar n tn Prozac can be very useful. However, it may not be necessary to employ medication. The first attempt should involve cognitive-behavioral treatment, and the clinician will likely be versed in this. If the use of CBT does not prove sufficient to remedy the difficulty, pharmacological treatment can be employed as an additonal component of the treatment plan.
Avatar n tn Prozac (fluoxetine) is an anti-depressant that works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin back into your brain, thereby encouraging it to produce more. It has one of the longest half-lifes of all the SSRIs and is therefore one of the easiest to wean off of. It is generally taken early in the day so that you won't have diffuculty sleeping at night.
Avatar m tn Yes, vivid dreams are quite common with Prozac (and various other type medications). When I took Prozac I would have pretty intense and bizarre dreams. I found taking Prozac in the morning helped minimize this side effect for the same reason. If the dreams become so bad you cannot sleep properly then you'll have to make a decision on what you can stand and what is best for you. I eventually embraced the dreams, knowing they would come and they were not real.
1295419 tn?1276822872 I was on Paxil for 8 months and switched to Prozac without any issues. About 5 months after being on Prozac I found out it was causing me some issues so I stopped it cold turkey. I was taking 30 mg/day. This was about 6 weeks ago. I have noticed that the last month or so every single time I wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning my hands are both tingling and "asleep". They go back to normal after a minute or so.
Avatar n tn You should not stop 'cold turkey'. Go down to every other day, and do that for a couple of weeks, and then you can stop. It depends on how long you have taken it. If it hasn't been very long, it will be easy to get off, but then you may still be depressed. On the other hand if you have taken it as long as I have, well...I don't think I can ever get off it again, because it has totally altered my brain chemistry.
Avatar n tn I too have a lengthy history with antidepressants. I take it that the ones you've used in the past just didin'tt cut it for you any longer? I had bad side effects from all the SSRI's I tried and prozac was one of them. It's hard to tell if you are experiencing side effects too or just the symptoms of anxiety/depression. These effects may very well subside with time on the medicine.
Avatar f tn I was always told to take tylenol cold. and for the dayquil nyquil is has acohol in it and asprin so i wouldnt recommend it. But you could also call your ob and ask what is safe and whats not.
6389103 tn?1390499202 Tylenol cold and sinus, claritin, benadryl, and if u need it vicks vapor rub
Avatar f tn Ope and Tylenol lol
Avatar f tn Vit C morning and afternoon, Echinacea 3x a day, honey, ginger n lemon tea, boil some chicken bones in a pot of water with carrot, celery, onion and a splash of vinegar for 24 hours then strain and drink a cup 2-3 times a day. These all work WAY quicker for me to relieve and cure a cold than any medicine I've found.
Avatar f tn m barely getting over my cold and mucinex is what my doc and the nurses and the hospital said was good to take, also the pharmacist agreed that was the best while pregnant
1221453 tn?1281092342 Anyone know of a medicine i can take? I have a terrible cold. Cough, runny nose, headache the works. Just wondering if anyone knew of something safe to take???
Avatar f tn Is there any cold medicine that is safe for us? I had a bad running nose, sore throat and a lot of pressure in my head.
Avatar f tn If it's allergy related you can take Claritin... Or however it is spelled. If it's cold related really you can only take Tylenol cold and flu. Web MD has a list... Here is the link http://www.m.webmd.com/baby/guide/taking-medicine-during-pregnancy?
