Common Questions and Answers about Protein in the urine during pregnancy

protein

Avatar f tn So I understand protein in urine during pregnancy is not a good sign. I read up on something mentioning pre-eclampsya. But what I dont understand is I dont have high.blood pressure. Can it be possible to have it but with normal blood pressure?
Avatar f tn You may also need 24 hours urine test, random protein to creatinine ratio to check the kidney status and a serum and urine protein electrophoresis test to determine which proteins are being excreted and in what quantities. Sometimes, some proteins will appear in the urine if the levels of protein in blood become high, even when the kidney is functioning properly. I suggest you to discuss these investigations with your urologist and get them done. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
6498330 tn?1389709379 Hey, I had protein in my urine with my last pregnancy n had to do the 24 hr urine. Come to find out I had preeclampsia. This pregnancy they found a trace of protein n I had to do the 24 hr urine n blood work but I didn't have preeclampsia this pregnancy.
1305271 tn?1320984748 Sometimes, when your body is under some type of stress, they can malfunction and let things like protein and glucose sneak through (which they should not). Protein in the urine is something they monitor in pregnancy esp if there is high blood pressure because it can indicate pre-eclampsia (along with high BP) or some type of stress on the body.
Avatar n tn I had high protein 2 weeks ago. Tested again this week and it was normal. Most women test high at some point in pregnancy, doesn't mean anything unless you get more than one in a row. I hadn't eaten much 2 weeks ago, that was probably the reason it was high for me. Dehydration can be another reason. Odds are you have nothing to worry about, just take it as it comes. Good luck, and congrats on the baby!
4503521 tn?1400858886 Having small amounts of protein in your urine is common in pregnancy. It can happen for a number of reasons. It probably just means that your kidneys are working harder now that you're pregnant. It could also mean that your body is fighting a minor infection. Your midwife may send a sample of your urine to the hospital to check if you have a urinary tract infection (UTI). If you have a UTI, your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic that is safe to take in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I had a urine sample today at midwife appointment and they found protein in urine and now investigating.
178698 tn?1228774338 I have had protein in my urine since I was in my early 20s. It's never been at a high enough level for the MDs to get overly concerned. I've had testing on my kidneys and everything, and they can't find anything wrong. As far as pregnancy goes, I've also had it in my urine during this pregnancy, but not at a high level. I have had to do 24-hour urine collections a couple of times so he could check kidney function but, other than that, no big deal.
Avatar f tn My 5 years old son has been having protein in urine for the last year. This was discovered during a regular check up. His protein has always been +1 and the blood work always been good. He has been seen by a pediatric nephrologist. The doctor now recommends a kidney biopsy as he can’t explain the protein in urine (he has no other symptoms). Anyone has had such experience?
Avatar n tn Protein in urine is a sign of infection. Did your doctor give you medication? They should have.
9455625 tn?1412820762 Have protein(ketones) in your urine means you aren't eating enough, so your body is using up fat reserves as a source of energy, therefore meaning your body is in starvation mode
Avatar f tn Last time I went to midwife 9th jan I had protein in urine sample they sent it of and I had a uti.
Avatar f tn with my 2ed at 22 weeks my doc found protein in my urine. she had me come back once a week for the last half my my pregnancy and noting ever changed. my protein was still high but my BP was good. good luck!
Avatar f tn I had GD and was controlling my blood sugar with diet, but the protein in my urine was a sign that I was not eating enough and so my body was consuming itself, in a way. I ended up going into labor @ 36 weeks because of this.
5889951 tn?1380316047 s lymphoma, kidney disease, leukemia, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and sickle cell anemia are a few of the many conditions that can cause protein in urine, according to the Mayo Clinic. Also keep in mind that certain medications and dehydration can also cause the problem.
Avatar f tn I'm pretty sure that's a symptom of preclampsia I'd look it up.
Avatar n tn Even a mild urine infection can cause traces of protein in the urine ie protein is found in blood and with a uti it is common to have a small amount of blood in the urine - hence trace of protein as well. have a urine test done to outrule infection and have your kidney function measured by a simple blood test ;) re the altter ie blood test, even one poor egfr can also be the result of a uti!!!!! you need to show a steady pattern of poor egfr to indicate ckd.
9801256 tn?1412729114 Today i had the midwife and she said i had protein in my urine she's sending me to my gp tomorrow for further tests im 25 weeks pregnant what does it mean when you have protein in you're urine? I read that it could be early stages of pre clampsina or diabetes?
9947022 tn?1407987195 Hmm usually protein in the urine and swelling is a sign of pre eclampsia. If she's not concerned to the point where she's forgot to bring it up I'd say its nothing drastic but maybe call her and ask?
Avatar f tn Had confirmed digital pregnancy test on Friday. Went to my doctor and they said I had protein in my urine but not gave me any antibiotics. I'm so concerned and worried as have a history of miscarriages. He told me to hand a sample in on Monday if it got worse.
Avatar f tn I would suggest that you get a serum creatinine level and a check of 24 hour urine protein level to determine the exact level of protein and there by the level of damage to the kidney due to recurrent infections. Tumors in the urinary tract usually present with a painless bleeding in the tract. Consult a urologist for further assistance. Best.
419126 tn?1242412170 Your doctor should do some blood work, to check for common abnormalities that often present with pre-eclampsia, or pregnancy induced hypertension. Protein in the urine does not diagnose this syndrome. Headaches that aren't relieved by Tylenol? Blurred vision? Pain in your upper right ribcage? Those are other symptoms. Swelling of the feet is common in virtually every pregnant woman. Swelling in the hands and face is more concerning. Hopefully, its nothing.
1837090 tn?1328040121 ve been showing a lot of protein in my urine, the first time it was 2+ and the the pat two times it was 3+ the last one was just today at my drs. My Dr is concerned because my actual urine analysis showed no signs of infections or illness at all besides this ton of protein always in my urine.
384896 tn?1335294331 Also had protein in my urine and it was preg induced hypertension. Was induced at 38 weeks due to the protein in urine and blood pressure was sky high.
1108194 tn?1378424522 When my daughter was 12, they found protein in her urine during an athletic physical. The doctor we saw, scared the crap out of us by telling us that if we didn't have it treated, she could have kidney failure. We were horrified. We booked the appointment with the specialist, and then I promptly took her to see a different MD because I didn't like the attitude of the one she saw for the physical.
