Common Questions and Answers about Prilosec liver

prilosec

Avatar n tn It and other meds such as Losec (Australian name for Prilosec) and Pariet are proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Interestingly I also have liver cysts - called simple cysts. There may be no connection of course. But I have read somewhere that ovarian cysts can be connected to PPIs. I also have gastro polyps as a result of long term use of PPIs.
Avatar f tn Most knowledgeable hepatologists prescribe proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs like Nexium or Prilosec. Both are generally considered liver friendly; omeprazole is available generically if cost is an issue.
Avatar f tn Can taking the medication zantac on an average of one 150mg tablet per day, and sometimes two in one day, cause an elevated liver enzyme "score?" I can't seem to get a definitive answer on this. In additon I am taking Verapamil, 120 mg. per day and Lisonopril HCTZ, 25 mg. per day, and Citalopram HBR, 20 mg 1 per day. . Can zantac alone, or in combination with any of the prescription drugs cause liver enzymes to increase?
Avatar n tn His doctor feels the rectal bleeding and the liver is all tied in. Can I breath easy that the ultrasound on the liver “looks good”? What is your opinion?
238010 tn?1420406272 First, liver damage is not the same as HepC. You can have HepC without significant liver damage and you can have liver damage without HepC. Fatty Liver Disease can lead to significant liver damage for example. Secondly, it is possible to take necessary medication which can give your liver a work out but not necessarily do it major damage.
Avatar n tn Yes, some medicines are toxic to liver and can cause a raised liver enzyme levels. Also as I said earlier, diabetes (less likely) should also be checked. Let your son take Prilosec for a week and see if it helps him. If not, then further evaluation may be required. Take care!
Avatar f tn t see the correlation between Prilosec and your symptoms. Prilosec is to reduce acid in your stomach from GERD (acid reflux) and the symptoms of GERD are indigestion, burning in the throat and sometimes stomach acid backing up in your throat...you don't mention these symptoms. You really need to see a GI doctor and get your stomach scoped, and don't wait because it takes awhile to get in to see one. Keep us posted!
Avatar m tn Ok well back in July of 08 I had a swollen tonsil, I was put on antibiotics for a month! Then I was told to start taking prilosec otc. While on prilosec i started getting some of the rare side effects such as kidney and testicular pain. So i stopped using prilosec. Then I started noticing I had some abdominal pain I would say my intestine area. A mild burning that would come and go. I also had some burning in my stomach aswell.
Avatar m tn I have had issues with pain in the upper right quadrant under my ribs and radiating to my back for the last two years. It feels like I have a ball there and I have to lean to the side when it's really bothering me to give it 'room'. I had some abnormal liver panel results but they told me not to worry about it. They said I had GERD and gave me Prilosec. I was back in a couple of weeks with another 'attack'. Sometimes it doesn't bother me much and other times it's bad.
Avatar n tn Statins do not seem to have a tolerance issue. Are you having trouble controlling your cholesterol on your 10 mg dose? Atorvastatin is supposed to be one of the two most effective statins in lowing cholesterol so you are on a good one. Bioavailability is how well a med is absorbed and used by the body and bioavailability varies among the statins. It's actually a desired thing.
Avatar m tn Doctor reccomended Prilosec OTC. She was still leaning toward gallbladder. Day after started taking Prilosec, pain was the worst it had been at that point. Note, to mitigate the pain, i was taking Ibruprofen. Realizing that if it was an ulcer, I stopped taking the Ibruprofen. Prilosec seemed to help after that. Felt as if improving. Had HIDA done. Normal results. Day I got the results (before I got them, just to rule out my brain turning against me), started feeling worse.
Avatar f tn I have been taking one form or another of prilosec/protonex, etc, over the past several years. I have what would be considered the typical symtoms of acid reflux. Especially, if I would eat anything spicy a couple of hours or so before bedtime I would supplement my prilosec with a zantac. In any event, the acid reflux has been with me for several years. A couple of months ago, I went in for a routine check up, and had my bloodtest, which showed a slightly elevated ALP of 85.
Avatar m tn white stool usualy have to do with the liver,,,and all the other symptoms sounds like gallbladder,so id have my gullbladder/liver checked asap
Avatar m tn He is on Denamarin ¼ tablet for small to mediun dogs, 1 Prednisone tablet 5mg in the morning, ½ 250mg Metronidazole pill in the morning, and ¼ Prilosec in the morning! At night he only gets ¼ Prilosec! He has been holding his own for about a year now. Yesterday he started the head tilt and really stiff walking. He pants and drinks lots of water. He was diagnosed with high liver enzymes. He does also have some mouth/teeth problems but can’t go under the anesthesia to get a dental!
Avatar f tn I have always taken 20mg of prilosec otc and it was fine... then after chemotherpy for lymphoma I had to have it increased to 40mg. I take that and I still have to take gavescon because I get this warmish feeling in my chest and it is usually 2 hours after I eat something. When I take the Gavescon, it does help with the feeling of warmth but I have a sour taste in the back of my throat after taking it. I drink some water and it usually goes away.

Avatar f tn It does make senses that a liver disease would mess up the digestive tract since the liver makes lots of enzymes and other things involved with digesting food. Prilosec worked really well for me. BTW, now that I'm done with tx, the indigestion rarely comes back.
Avatar f tn Agreeing with Tashka, Nexium and others in the PPI class of drugs are routinely prescribed to HCV patients— Bill
Avatar n tn ve heard of heatburn bounce when it comes back very bad (for a while) then gets better. Prilosec is available by prescription at 10mg which might be enough. As advertised, Prilosec can take 4 days to work because it is very slow acting, therefore, another alternative is to take OTC 20mg every other day. If recommended by a Dr., Prilosec can be safely taken for years.
Avatar f tn Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.
212161 tn?1599427282 hey thank you for your time. i take prilosec everyday cant go with out it i have reflux really bad is the a bad thing for my stomack will it cause problems down the road been on it for at least 2-3 years do come off of it now and than take zanta for a week but it not as good.
Avatar f tn I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.
Avatar m tn Medications can also cause this - cholesterol medicines and even Prilosec. Although this degree of liver enzyme elevation is not critical - if it indicates a chronic problem, it can go on to cause liver failure in the future, so you need to know what is causing it.
Avatar m tn I also went to an internal medicine doctor who recommended Zantac and Prilosec. I took Prilosec for almost one year consistently to control my heartburn with success. Eventually I stopped taking the Prilosec. I don't suffer constantly from heartburn but will get it on occassion if I don't follow a strict eating schedule. From age 32 to currently 35 I have noticed something very odd.
Avatar f tn If so did they see anything else like an ulcer? Are you taking Prilosec for the reflux? That will give you diarrhea, it is a side effect of that drug. The other thing that comes to mind with your symptoms is a bladder problem. Do you have any pain on the upper right side or lower right side. If lower right side you may also have an appendix problem instead. But bile comes from the gallbladder and so that is why it is possiblly that.
Avatar n tn The constipation and soft stools started before the Ulcer diagnoses and Prilosec. I recently had a CT scan and was told I have spots on my liver. I'm wondering if this could be a cause.
