Avatar m tn The Cancer Care Ontario Practice guidelines, which were endorsed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), recommend docetaxel (75 mg/m2) every three weeks plus prednisone (5 mg twice a day) for chemotherapy in men with castrate-resistant prostate cancer [18,19]. The guidelines recommend the continuation of gonadal androgen suppression but not antiandrogens during chemotherapy. Estramustine-based combinations are not recommended because of the higher incidence of complications.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with CIDP, and have gone through the "normal" protocol.. prednisone, IvIG, plasmapheresis, with no real help. My neurologist now suggests therapy with cytoxan or cellcept. He is "saving" the stem cell/bone marrow transplant as a last resort. I have read all of the info on both drugs and the risk/benefit for each.
Avatar f tn First of all, let me say that I'm comfortable with my negative results and I have no further worries. But, I've seen posted on these forums MANY times about fears of medication interacting with HIV seroconversion. Which medications can delay seroconversion, if any? Maybe this will be helpful for people who are constantly worrying about if something as benign as Benadryl can affect them.
992218 tn?1276107009 was caused from the Chemotherapy for the NHL. My questions is....could all this really be due to the chemotherapy I had done over 3 years ago? Is there something else I should be asking my cardiologist? I'm already on a beta blocker and Digoxin for the SVT's.
Avatar m tn I have a 8 year old male (neutered) indoor only cat, diagnosed last month with lymphoma (confirmed through rads and outside lab cytology). He is on 1 ml of prednisone once a day and recieving vincristine injections, once a week, for the last 3 weeks. He has had intermittent vomiting, mainly from the pred, since we switched from liquid pred to pills, the vomiting has decreased. Rads show that the tumor, in the thoraic cavity, has shrunk significantly since beginning the vincristine.
Avatar m tn Unless your dog has a suppressed immune system (autoimmune disorder, on prednisone or chemotherapy etc) then he should be ok. Rest up and drink a lot of fluids.
Avatar f tn Since your thrombocytopenia is likely because of the tumor, the best way to resolve the low platelet count is to treat the tumor itself with chemotherapy. But chemotherapy can only be done safely if your platelet counts are high enough, hence the need for intermittent IVIG treatment. So to answer your question: your weakness and weight gain will begin to resolve once you stop receiving IVIG and steroids. These medications will only stop when you stop having episodes of thrombocytopenia.
Avatar f tn I needed to be pre-medicated with benadryl and prednisone due to a reaction i had shortly after my first taxitier treatment. Does my body reacting adversely to the chemo in the first place cause more severe side effects? I'm curious to know because i have had lumbar pain and knee pain ever since my chemotherapy.
Avatar n tn Took her to the emergency room for x rays, ultrasound and then an endoscopy. The vet thinks she has IBD. Put her on Prednisone one week ago, along with antacids, and other meds to stop the diarrhea. She got very lethargic and lost her appetite. Took her back for one week checkup and vet explained large breed dogs some times react negatively to Prednisone by getting lethargic and haivng muscle atrophy. Cut her Prednisone in half and wanted to start her on Chlorambucil 2mg.
403156 tn?1290150018 I wrote on here over 2 weeks ago regarding my golden retriever possibly having cancer. She was diagnosed with stage III or possibly IV (x-rays showed liver and spleen slightly enlarged) lymphosarcoma. Last Tuesday she began chemotherapy treatments and will be undergoing them every week for several months - CHOP protocol.
Avatar m tn Hello all! After my last post I've made some search here and now I am really scared. I've had a 6 weeks post exposure ab+p24 ag test which came negative and a 12 weeks ab test which also came negative. I was cool until a week ago when the doctor told me I have oral candida. The problem is that it spread to the esofague and I can see it in my throat too and it feels like I have something there and it's really bothering.
Avatar n tn I researched it on WebMD.com and found that even with Chemotherapy, a patient with stage 4 only has a 1yr to 1 1/2yr to live. My father's cancer spread to his liver and stomach, and that was after a year of chemotherapy. It started out in his colon and a little on his liver. I was there the last 3 weeks of his life. He ended up starving to death because the cancer caused a blockage in his intestines and nothing could get through. All we could do was make him comfortable.
Avatar m tn The doc want to put me on prednisone for two weeks prior to starting treatment, in order to deal with Cryoglobulinemia and associated vasculitis. Does it make sense to take the prednisone? I thought that tx is a way to get rid of the cryoglobulins. I was also under the impression that prednisone may lead to increased viral load, and that is the last thing that I would want before starting tx.
1111202 tn?1262528841 He does not seem interested in treating it except with prednisone for now, probably just to try to get my platelets up as soon as possible. They run between 20,47, and 66. I find out on the 1st where they are again. Blood tests are frequently done. I am feeling stronger, still bruise quite easily, and still very concerned about my blood count and platelets. So far, so good. Just so afraid of falling and hurting myself then bleeding internally. Thank you for your interest and concern.
Avatar m tn (3) the patient is being treated with a doxorubicin-based chemotherapy; and (4) high-dose prednisone is used for a prolonged period of time, typically in combination with other immunosuppression. In my practice, I follow the rule that 20 mg or more of prednisone per day for more than 20 days would place a patient at moderate to high risk of reactivation if the patient is HBsAg-positive.
Avatar f tn As well, medications that may be used to treat some autoimmune disorders can weaken your immune system, making it easier for you to develop an infection. This includes treatments with corticosteroids (like prednisone), chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.
Avatar f tn The argument over use of oral prednisone is long-standing. The answer is yes, use of oral prednisone definitely predisposes a person to new infections, both viral and bacterial. That being said, once a given strain of flu is defeated natural antibodies prevent re-infection with that exact strain. It's like getting a vaccination. With oral prednisone the problem is risk vs. benefit. Prednisone affects different people in different ways.
Avatar n tn One of the twins was diagnosed with crohns when he was a teenager and the other one started with perianal abcesses acouple of years later. The doctors say that crohns is hereditary but there is no connection with the perianal abcesses but I dissagree and he has never been tested for crohns!!!
Avatar n tn Our 12 year old yellow lab mix was diagnosed with lymphoma about 2 months ago. The treatment she has been on is the Wisconsin-Madison 25-week protocol. She went into complete remission 29 days after starting the chemo/prednisone treatments and is currently on week 9 of the schedule. She is doing great except for the first few days after each chemo treatment when she is understandably lethargic before recovering just in time to get chemo again the next week.
Avatar f tn Your present stage (I believe it is stage I) along with the findings of Her2 + and ER -/PR+ may warrant you to receive adjuvant chemotherapy with possible herceptin. Tumors that are larger than 1cm in the National comprehensive cancer network, are considered to benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. You may also need hormonal treatment (like tamoxifen) after you undergo chemotherapy.
Avatar m tn I took Primatene mist for asthma 2 months back but my doctor asked me to stop using it and prescribed PREDNISONE, ALBUTEROL inhaler and BUDESONIDE and I have been taking these for past two months. My tests came negative. My question are 1) Is test conclusive? 2) Does medications mentioned above cause false negative? 3) It was 8 panel test which includes Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HSV 1, HSV 2, HIV and syphilis. All except HSV 1 came negative.
Avatar f tn I just finished my last dose of FEC chemotherapy today. My surgeon wants me to start with tamoxifen tomorrow. Would this not conflict with the FEC chemotherapy? Should I not wait for some time? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I would want the chemo if it were me. I agree with Marty about catching any remaining cells. I also agree with Angie that the cell type of the tumor matters.
Avatar n tn She was given steroid and antibiotic injections. Also given Baytril and Prednisone to take home and give daily. She gets Prednisone 20mg 3 times a day. She began heavy breathing on day 2 of the med and also seems to have belly bloating. Is this normal? I called my Vets office and all they said was to bring her in to get seen. But, we have already spent $1300 in one week alone on vet bills. Help!
Avatar f tn s Oncologist will pre-treat her with medication before each infusion with anything to lessen the chances of being sick from it? If not, ask for Aloxi to be administered first. Aloxi is a great drug to help with the nausea/vomiting. She may still have some sickness, but the Aloxi will help, especially in the first few days post treatment. Many people on this combo also experience some neuropathy in hands and feets.
