I want to know if the rash will remit on its own, because I've had four short rounds of prednisone already and would prefer to stay away from it if I can. But the itching is fierce! how long does this kind of "rebound" rash usually last? And when can I expect to feel relatively "normal" again after about two months of intermittent prednisone use?
But as soon as I quit taking the prednisone it seemed the rash got twice as bad. Went back to doc and got 10 mgs of prednisone, take 3 for 3 days, then 2 for 3 days, then one. the rash went away a lil more. Now it seems as if the rash may be coming back again. My question is will taking to small of a dose, or not taking the prednisone until the rash clears up. Will that cause the rash to come back?

Wishing everyone the best of Luck!! Take Care.....
Never had an allergy in my life, have not changed any soaps, even washed all my clothes in plain water because I thought it my be the detergent. He gave me a shot of prednisone and it help but made me feel horrible. the only thing I can think of is stress. Any ideas?
I was prescribed prednisone and it helped the itching. Unfortunately, after taking the medication I finally figured out on my own it has been aspartame poisoning. I am itching like crazy. how long does it take to detox from this stuff I am starving myself on an organic diet to get this **** out of my body. I wish I would have listened to my father 10 years ago when he told me diet pop was so bad for you. Anyone who reads this please please please take aspartame and msg out of your diet.
I picked up itching at week 7 and rash at 8; I am in week 9 now and managing; rash is down and still itch. Went to NP today and agree it is incivek rash and won't go away until I stop taking them. So I have to get through 3 more weeks. Atarax works for the itching and is supposed to make you sleepy, but does not for me. Fluocinonide works for the rash. Gold Bond cream worked better than aveno, but still use aveno soap. Keep it cool as you can. Hope it goes away or becomes more manageable.
Ive been itching and scratching for what seems to be a long time. It has tapered off to a point when people see me in public they dont look at me like I have fleas. It was very embarrasing there for a few months. today I was driving and had to scratch the bottom of my foot while driving. Thats was fun! You scratch in the weirdest places, especially the ones you cannot reach. I was prescribed peanut oil for the ears my ears and now they are great .
Yet another thing to live with: the itching is unbearable at times. Does anyone else have a spot that you could cratch until it bleeds? there is not a spot or a rash to explain it. Do not think I will be on the list to try any oral meds. This is a little scary for me. Reminds me of the commercials you see on TV with the list of side effects as long as your arm and the list of benefits that do not outweigh them. I will wait. Ever hear of Amy Clawsen?????
In July 2012, taper completed and she developed rash on legs with blisters and serve itching. We canceled Ileostomy and started 10 mg prednisone, itching continued not as serve. We visited dermatologists, Biopsy and nothing conclusive. Dr. thinks she has some other type of autoimmune disease. Until found they will not do surgery. Recommend seeing Rheumatologist. August 10 mg prednisone started again and she started a Gluten Free Diet. She has been on for 8 weeks, then started a 2.
I know a lady who cleared the virus and also had lupus. Sometime later she took prednisone for the lupus and AND the HEP. C came back. Now she's going through tx again. It's so sad. I would not take it. NO WAY.
these medications have suppressed the itching and i dont break out with bumps at all. the itching is not fully gone but I force my self to itch by working out and once i heat up and start working out vigourously the itching goes away but i feel real hot and i cant sweat nowhere on my body but my face. i have not sweat since the fall of last year because the hives started again and has not stopped until i just started taking these meds.
It is up in my upper thigh and in my pubic area and on my face! I called the obgyn nurse and she prescribed me prednisone and now I don't know if I want to take it! I read that it can cause problems to your unborn child, I already took 12 mg and then decided to stop because I got freaked out! I think I want to try the home remedies or natural! I might get that today at the health food store! What does anyone esle think!
Remember doctors will brush off and deny, but if you keep finding people like me and others who took prednisone and having the same exact symptoms, then it proves they are lying and somethings is very wrong with that drug. All of us are NOT crazy, we dont even have a reason to make it up, go figure!
-) Benadryl does not contain prednisone. And I am willing to be that it was the pred that helped your dog the most: it is known in vet-circles as a 'miracle drug' because it can be used to heal alot of things. I just googled temeril-p and here is what I found: Composition Each tablet contains trimeprazine tartrate (USP) 10-[3-(Dimethylamino)-2-methylpropyl] phenothiazine tartrate (2:1) equivalent to trimeprazine, 5 mg, and prednisolone, 2 mg.
If they itch but you don't mind the way they look, put the cortisone cream stuff. If they itch/hurt and you don't like the way they look, take the prednisone and go see a doctor. I see an allergist that my physician referred me to. the allergist has other patients with chronic hives and even had a break out himself so it works out nicely for me. I hear even a dermetologist can help you as well.
Have you tried having a bath in Aveeno oatmeal bath? Worked for me on #1-I was incredibly itching also. My itching was mostly on my belly, and for that, the thick body butters felt nice and seemed to ease the itch. Wishing you itch-free days!
prednisone will not stop your itching caused by excessive bile salt build up under your skin. prednisone is a corticosteroid hormone. Its main function is to decrease your immune systems response to various deseases to reduce symptoms such as swelling (new liver swells after transplant)and allergic type reactions. I have been on and off prednisone for over the last 3 months to due to sensitivity to dust and mold. I take either Allergra D or Zyrtec D normally, as well as Flonase and Singulair. My skin test were negative, as well as RAST. I have also had blood work and chest x-ray and CT of sinus. Everything normal. Out of concern of the side effects of prednisone, I have weaned off it(under doctor's supervison) and took last dosage 5 days ago.
Years ago we had a dog on prednisone, and weren't told to slowly wean her off. She, too, was shaking uncontrollably, and almost bouncing off the walls. I definately thing its a side effect. Are you very slowly weaning her off? Maybe you could go even slower than the vet suggests.
I was to take 60 mgs for 2 days, 50 mgs for 2 days and so on until I tapered down to 10mgs for 2 days and then none. About a week into taking the prednisone, I developed a very hot and burning face and neck. I have been off the prednisone for 2 days but am still experiencing the symptoms. My face turns a little red-- I look a little flushed. My skin feels hot to the touch on my face and has a burning hot sensation. Is this from the steroids? If so, when will it pass?
Diabetics should monitor their blood sugar closely while taking prednisone. the bone and skin issues and the vast majority of other possible side effects are associated with long term use of prednisone. If you need it for a week or so it isn't that big of a deal. I know that it is not recommended during TX because it does inhibit the immune system significantly - depending on dose.
I had this with the Dachund I had, they gain a lot of weight on prednisone ,and he drank copious amounts of water, I may have been unlucky but he got diabetes and the Vet said the prednisone certainly hadnt helped, have you ever thought of googling in case there is any Natural remedy out there, I will also check around I go to a great Health food store they may have Animal stuff. .
Chlorpheniramine maleate is a safe, mild antihistamine effective to relieve itching and has none of the adverse side effects associated with steroids like prednisone. Other helpful strategies to relieve dog allergies include weekly baths in organic oatmeal shampoo, feeding a hypoallergenic diet, and drinking distilled water. See your vet about his ears as he may have an ear infection called Otitis externa.
She may have juvenile cellulitis, or puppy strangles which requires not only the prednisone but also requires an antibiotic, and safe pain medication. Please contact your vet as soon as you can and go back for a recheck, and the additional medications if it turns out to be juvenile cellulitis.
told her her gallblader is not working, can cause itching. And her liver is sluggish. prednisone is the only thing to stop the itching. She does not want to continue the prednisone as it is so bad for you. Just had loads of blood taken and Dr. says does not know what is wrong. Anybody got any ideas? Please help her.
My 2 year old male (white) doberman has been on antibotics and prednisone for the last year. He is constanting scratching and licking his flanks. He did have thick mucus like goop coming out of his eyes but this has been controlled by eye drops. He has been tested for allergies including food and nothing has shown up. He has had skin scrapes and a thyroid test, still nothing. He will be going in for skin biopsy next week. What do you think is causing this skin irritation?
I've taken 3 doses so far and it seems as if it works for a little bit but last night before bed, my hives were RED again and itching same as this morning they are itching like crazy. Should the prednisone be working by now? Or am I just being inpatient? Thanks all!!!!
