1716896 tn?1308880762 Itching can develop when you start any drug and this is because of allergic or anaphylactic reaction when you start with a drug. There is no known itching as a withdrawal effect of stopping prednisolone. However if you started with steroids for any allergic reaction the stopping the steroids may cause flare up of allergies again. I would recommend a dermatologist’s consultation for this.
Avatar m tn Do you have any other autoimmune conditions? The symptoms you mention are not listed among those for prednisone withdrawal but are concerning. I think you should contact your doctor and discuss this development.
Avatar n tn He mentioned that I could be experiencing a hormone imbalance due to the steroid withdrawal. The burning and itching could be from the irritated nerves under the skin. I was not on the prednisone that long but my doctor said that he has seen a wide range of reactions to steroids. I have also done some research online and found some people who are still reacting from the steroids after a couple of weeks. I do not know if this sounds like me though? Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn This made a huge difference but, once the prednisone wore off the rash back full force. I returned to my doctor and was prescribed Prednisone for longer and a higher yet decreasing dosage over 7 days. Sure enough, the rash dried out and healed, itching subsided until about 2 days after finishing the course of Predisone. Now, im itching again and the rash is returning! it's like if I'm off Prednisone it will come back but, i cant keep taking prednisone over and over. What's going on?
Avatar f tn So they put me on prednisone for the all over itching and say it's a class c during pregnancy. So if I'm 32 weeks is it safe to take it the remainder of my pregnancy.

Avatar f tn A few days after the last dose the itching came back again with a vengeance and additional itching on my legs. The doctor again prescribed prednisone to taper but in smaller doses(day 1=40mg, etc). Again, I had relief while on the medicine. Days after stopping prednisone the itch came back again and was even worse. Since then my entire body is now itching (arms, legs, feet, hands, stomach, neck, back). There are no visible rashes, no blisters, no white lines.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the reply. I would have never thought prednisone withdrawal would be so difficult. I am hangin' in there and staying positive. Thank you very much Foggy2. It seems the fatigue is the hardest to deal with. I have never experienced fatigue in such an extreme fashion. I am concerned with the last month which will be 1mg every other day. So far it seems I am just one of those people that do better dropping .5mg at a time. Now that I think back I should have been dropping.
Avatar m tn My 70 lb 12 year old golden retriever has a skin condition and was on Prednisone last year for about three weeks. She broke out with the same rash a few days ago, and (stupidly) instead of taking her to the vet, I gave her the same dosage of medicine that we had left over from the last time. I gave her 20mg in the morning, 20 in the evening, and then realized that I didn't have enough to complete the course for three weeks.
Avatar f tn I was diognised with auto immune hepatitis 6 months ago. My doctor started treatment with 50mg azathioprine. It didn't work so he added 10mg prednisone. Avatar m tn im suffering from itching in my lower leg almost 5 months and im taking prednisone but its coming back after my medicine finish.its look like a purpura but my igA is normal and some of my laboratory..i need help..
Avatar m tn In July 2012, taper completed and she developed rash on legs with blisters and serve itching. We canceled Ileostomy and started 10 mg Prednisone, itching continued not as serve. We visited dermatologists, Biopsy and nothing conclusive. Dr. thinks she has some other type of autoimmune disease. Until found they will not do surgery. Recommend seeing Rheumatologist. August 10 mg Prednisone started again and she started a Gluten Free Diet. She has been on for 8 weeks, then started a 2.
Avatar m tn How long can it stay this high without permanent damage? He is taking prednisone and something for itching.
4333925 tn?1359102442 t have a rash of any kind. The dr only prescribed 6 days worth of the Prednisone. The itching has gone from 99.9% to about a 10% now but I took a Xanax to clam my nerves and that also seems to be helping. I will be calling my dr Monday morning.
Avatar f tn I was on prednisone for two months this winter and within two days of starting the prednisone, my itching stopped! I tapered off the prednisone three weeks ago and the itching is back full force! I started having trouble with knee pain about two months after I started on Lialda. I thought it was the start of old age setting in (47) so I've been going to the chiropractor to get my knees adjusted. It usually helps for about a month, then the pain sets in again.
Avatar f tn However, the prednisone accelerated the osteoarthritis in my knees and hips, and I am now trying to get off prednisone. And this is the real problem of prednisone. For most people with osteoarthritis in addition to whatever else, prednisone reduces healing in tissues that are inflamed (by reducing inflammation which is part of healing). This is not true for every kind of osteoarthritis..
Avatar m tn Benadryl and prednisone. You can get the benadryl over the counter, but the prednisone is a steroid that mush be prescribed. Have you seen your health care provider for this?
1540112 tn?1293016134 I was given a shot of prednisone. then 5 mg of prednisone. 5 pills the first day, titrate to one in 5 days. Along with 2 benadryls every 6 hours and zyrtec. The rash went down a lil. But as soon as I quit taking the prednisone it seemed the rash got twice as bad. Went back to doc and got 10 mgs of prednisone, take 3 for 3 days, then 2 for 3 days, then one. The rash went away a lil more. Now it seems as if the rash may be coming back again.
Avatar f tn This stopped the itching and the red bumps for a couple days, but now the bumps are coming back (I am still on the prednisone). No itching, but I am worried once I come off the prednisone, my skin will just go back to getting increasingly worse and worse. Someone please help, I just want my skin to be normal for once and to not be afraid to go out in public.
975514 tn?1324997938 I was talking with my husband about prednisone. He has taken it off and on throughout his life for various joint inflammation. He has never had trouble coming off of it whether he was tapered off or not. I have had trouble each and every time I have been on it (for asthma related issues mostly). I always thought I was having "withdrawal" symptoms- horribly aching joints, pain, anxiety, sweats, something that sounds a lot like opiate withdrawal if you ask me.
Avatar f tn I have some prednisone left over from a spider bite last week at the emergency room. I need to know if I can cut them up for 2 of my 9 cats that have visited my home and decided to stay. please do not say go to a vet since I am 69 and on Medicare and Medicaid. this is a town with no low cost clinics.
