i'm allergic to eggs and i broke out in hives after getting the flu shot.. i also develped sinusitus and fluish symptoms.. but i heard this is normal reaction to flu shot, so i'm not sure if it was my allergies or not.
This is my first year with MS and I have never in the past gotten a flu shot. Knock on wood - but haven't had the flu in years. I have read that it is recommended to get the shot and not the mist. My question is how many of you get the flu shot each year?
We were not sure until Tuesday Greg and I saw the doctor that diagnosed the flu and bronchitis. She gave us bactrim and prednisone. I started feeling better a few hours after the first dose and by the next morning, after a full night's sleep I feel like a new person. The kids have the flu too, but they did not end up with bronchitis like us old folks, so they aren't as sick. It's almost over. We have plans to go to Busch Gardens Saturday, so hopefully we will have enough stamina then.
My co-workers and I all had the flu shot given on 10/29/07 and the nurse gave it too high into the shoulder joint. We are now 4 months out with shoulder pain although it's not nearly as bad as it was. In the beginning you could hardly lift your arm, lift weights, or anything. It seems that those that were thinner were the ones affected more by the improper placement. Our MRI's showed bone marrow edema, bursitis and arthritis in one.
By that I mean fever, chills, aches, pains and general flu symptoms? I've never heard of that and don't think it's a good idea. Steroids are meant to reduce inflammation, not to eliminate flu pain. They definitely have their down side, so should be used only when absolutely indicated. If you are having an MS flare, then high-dose IV steroids administered 3 to 5 days often help. Pills are pretty much useless.
However, if you get bad asthma exacerbations from viruses, then I recommend that you get the swine flu shot. I understand that this particular flu tends to go deep into your lungs and having asthma on top of that puts you at high risk of complications. Have a good holiday and relax!
I had asked about getting the flu shot and my doctor said that as long as I am on the amount of prednisone I am taking the flu shot wouldn't even be effective (the rule being over 15 mg per day). I have not heard that one before. So, no shot for me this year.
I had 125 mg of solu-medrol at hospital for adverse reaction to allergy shot and the only 2 days of 40mg prednisone - went back to ER 3 times that week - felt horrible, head heavy, fatigue, I couldn't have felt worse. SED rate high - everything else normal. Then over next 3 weeks got every blood test - normal - MRI - normal! Thank goodness but still felt horrible. Then I had insomnia for 3 weeks. I am out 6 weeks and now have anxiety attacks, but today felt a little more myself at times.
I was sweating, coughing, throat was sore from drainage. He gave me a steroid shot to get me to recovery and some amoxicilin, cough syrup and a new puffer. Today I was a little better and the steroid was working because my face was red as a beat all day. Once today earlier , I got this attack that I could not breath and or cough anything up it is just dry and seems like no way to get a good breath. Then I finally coughed a hard piece of something up and I was ok...
I had a flu shot back in the fall of 2010, and my arm and shoulder has hurt ever since. Haven't been to a doctor. The way my arm gets numb and tingly down to my hands, I thought I had a ruptured disk in my neck. But I have always suspected the flu shot, since it didn't ache before I got it. I'm very discouraged. I hope something can be done. I have autoimmune problems, so I already take steroids all the time, but I still ache really bad. Good to know I'm not alone.
I was searching to see about taking Prednisone with Avonex since I have developed Temporal Arteritis and am taking the Prednisone for that and tonight is shot night. I was wondering about the two together. I think you all have answered my question. I take two 8 hour Tylenol or Ibuprofen before my injection. I go to bed immediately and only occasionally suffer any "flu-like" symptoms. I guess everyone has to just experiment and find what works for them.
). It just starts to wear on you after this long. Also, the prednisone has caused my menstrual cycle to be every 2 1/2 weeks, which in turn makes my disease flare. AAUUGGGHHH! Autoimmune disorders stink! (Can you tell I am having a bad prednisone day?) I am usually in very high spirits, I work with kindergarten children, have 2 girl scout troops and 3 very active kids, so I stay very busy and involved.

I then went back to work. I was cancelling work days left and right as I was getting more and more tired and became sick again. I saw another microbiologist who decided to give me Avelox x 14 days in case there was some remaining mycoplasma. On my first night of avelox, I had the worse night sweats I have ever had. Avelox did not improve my symptoms. I had to stop work as I was too sick. I developed a severe headache and ended up in the emergency room 2 weeks later.
Some advice please. I am 74 & over past 6 years several diagnosis: MycoPlasmaPneumoniae, horrible with no treatment of asthma symptoms, next treating asthma symptoms, then finally diagnosed with a form of ABPA. Reaction to aspergillus under skin & high IGE 2200 but no evidence of blood antibodies. Treated with 15mgs prednisone every OTHER day for 3 yrs w/exacerbation occasionally. Last Dec "11 was able to get off prednisone & best yr ever until now. Caught flu which became UTI.
I asked if it was ok to take with my HUMIRA and prednisone and was told it was fine. I was injected with the vaccine and became ill within 24 hours and my eyes became seriously inflamed. I sought medical care and saw a Opthamologist who diagnosed Iritis and Uveitis. Six months later my vision has deteriorated and I have considerable floaters. I have been referred to a major medical school, and Eye Institute.
It has been a long time since my mystery illness, and it has never returned. Just in case, I make sure I get a flu shot every year because I'm scared of what might happen if I get the flu again. I don't know whether the origin of your mystery illness is the same as mine, but my immunologist/hematologist theorized (I may not have this technically correct) that my white blood cells had markers that were similar to the flu markers and it confused my immune system.
I am about 8 weeks pregnant and have been feeling tingling in my left arm, hands and feet on and off since receiving my swine flu shot yesterday. I am very worried as well. Can someone urgently answer our question.
every year i add another episode of getting sick whether it be a cold that leads to bronchitis every time, or the flu. everytime i get the flu shot i still get the flu and when i don't, i get the flu. i am damned if i do and damned if i don't. just ranting.
I was just given a steroid shot after I refused. I have upper and lower respiratory infections and antibiotics hadn't cleared it up, I felt worse after a week so I gave in. The Doc said in most likelihood I wouldn't see a flare up of insomnia or anxiety (both I suffer from) and here I am... Up 24 hours now, feeling slightly better but all too jittery to sit still for long long let alone lay, get comfortable etc.
I saw her in the hall at the office as I was paying for my allergy shot the other day. She stopped and talked to me and told me that my name is in her notes from the conference. She marked several things to try with me. Some friends keep asking me if trying another allergist would help. My allergist is a professor at the med school, lectures around the world, and does her own research and development. She is a fellow in both of the US's allergy and asthma boards.

I personally have not. I had a flu shot 20 yrs. ago and actually got the flu or what seemed like it. (not the neurological symptoms) . I got the H1N1 because I was so freaked out about this particular flu and my asthma.
He told me that he highly doubts that my body can tell the difference between 2mg and 1 mg of prednisone. My body definitely can tell the difference and his sarcasm is unwelcome. I need help! What should I do? Where should I go to find a new doctor? How should I manage these symptoms? ADDITIONAL INFO: initially put on prednisone for allergic asthma - swollen neck, restricted airway, eosinophils at 960.
I've been on depo for 6 months and i had my period aug 8th through the 17th or 18th and me and my bf have recently had sex sept 13th and he cummed in me 3 times, no protection.
Plus, I NEED to have a flu shot - which they won't let me get as long as I am sick. If I got a flu shot and did indeed have Valley Fever, is that dangerous? I am leaving again for Tucson the end of October and plan to contact a doctor there for testing. I have been on 3 rounds of antibiotics (Leviquin) which make me a little better - but I get as bad or worse as soon as the antibiotics are done. Am I living dangerously to wait until the beginning of November to see a doctor in Arizona?
Some people think taking things like Prednisone triggers/causes Hashis in the first place. I've also heard that the flu shot can trigger things like Hashis or even possibly getting the flu or maybe a bacterial infection. Who knows. She also has allergies to pollens and dust which the Singulair seems to control. I would like to say that as of this moment my daughter is doing very well-- fairly consistantly. She has been on Levoxyl (37.5 mcg and now 50 mcg) for one year.
Hello, My wife and I have two boxers and we went crazy with their allergies, treating the symptoms from puppy-hood. Our male especially would be sooo itchy, and get hot spots and even his lips and jowls would swell, his ears would get red and itchy.... The poor thing would scratch till he bled. We would load him up on benedryl, we didn't know what to do. Our EX-vet was making a fortune on us until we decided to get a second opinion.
They diagnosed him with the flu and said it simply had to run it's course. If this is the flu with a flu shot, I can't imagine what it would be like without a flu shot!!!
