Pneumonia shot

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia shot

pneumonia

I'm 63 years old and am a type 2. I had a pneumonia shot 5 years ago when I was 58 but last March I had pneumonia so I'm wondering since it's been 5 years since my last shot if maybe I shouldn't have another one. I have had pneumonia twice in my life, once in 1965 and once in 2007, both times it was the kind that's called walking pneumonia; does the vaccine not work on that kind?
I dont know how old you are but if you are old, or if you have asthma or allergies, you should speak to your doctor about getting a pneumonia shot. I think it lasts for 5 years. It may not prevent the pneumonia completely but it will help prevent your chances of getting the pneumonia. Hope this helps, take care.
I have gotten Pneumonia 3 years in a row. I got the flu and Pneumonia shot this year and still got iPneumonia. What is going on with me. My doctor keeps giving me steroids that are blowing me up and not stopping me from catching this illness. Please help. Thank you.
and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia. I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.
That will be something you need to discuss with your dr. They recommend the shots for people who work in healthcare, young children, the elderly, and people who have immune system problems. I was taking them for a few yrs due to having endo and i got sick easily. But now i am going to have to check with mr dr about if i still need them since i had my hysterectomy.
Hi, I have asthma, have been on systemic corticosteroids for years, and work in the health care field. I am a 39 year old female. I received a pneumonia shot, which I assume is the same as the pneumococcal vaccine, about 8 years ago. However, I am very confused about whether or not I need a booster. Some of the information on the internet says that one shot is enough, at least until age 65.
I got the pneumonia shot two days ago and today woke up to a very very red, hot to the touch and swollen arm from injection spot to elbow--is this normal

My first visit the dr recommended the steroid shot instead of pills, I did not want a shot, so I took the pills. I wish I would have listened and did the shot first. I am a bit jittery and did not sleep as well te day after the steroid shot.
You might also ask him (or her) whether you should get a flu shot and a pneumonia shot. If the pulmonologist can't help you, perhaps you should be evaluated by an immunologist to help determine why you get such frequent bouts of pneumonia. Best of luck--I'm sure the LungLine nurse will have additional insight and suggestions. Please post what you learn.
She had the flu for 5 days and then she developed pneumonia. The doctor prescribed azithromycin. She is feeling much better and is improving with each day. However, everyone that I speak to is encouraging me to have her get the flu shot. Is this necessary after she has already had the flu? And is she more at risk to get a relapse if she resumes normal activity too soon. Thank you.

He also has copd, asthma, diabetis 2, He first was doctoring back about december after he received the pneumonia shot, doctor said it was bronchitis. Got over that then went back to doctor again for another bout of bronchitis, this time chest xray taken, but no followthru, due to change in doctors, I guess. Now he was just there again with diarreha and vomiting for about 5 days, (can't get doctor on weekend). Of course husband had no want to go either.
I'll have to work on that, when I'm more well. I never want to feel like this again!!! Asking Doc for my Pneumonia shot and Flu shot as soon as I can. Don't want it to be one of those years when I spend 3-4 months in bed because Pneumonia over-takes me. Need another shot in my SI socket, cuz the last one's worn off due to my illness.I suck!!! I've been on cortizone after cortizone trying to rid this illness. Could it be- the cortizone actually caused this???

I saw my new internist last Thursday and she gave me a pneumonia shot, my arm at the injection site is red, hot and swollen. I checked on the internet to see if this is normal, it is. But I was upset to read that the pneumonia shot should not be given for two weeks, prior to chemo. I hope I didn't mess up my chemo schedule, I'm due to have a treatment this coming Monday. Has anyone here had that shot while getting chemo, or were you advised not to?

Got my pneumonia shot w/ the seasonal flu vaccine on Monday. My arm is stiiiiiiilllll sore - actually it's maybe still getting worse yet. If they put more mercury in, that might help, plus I'd be better at deciding how warmly to dress in the morning. I'll get the h1n1 whan that's available here in injection. Didn't know there were two pneumonia shots, but I do know they only cover a fraction of the bugs. The deal with h1n1 is it rapidly damages the little hairs (silica?
Took my shot last night woke up during the night with swollen hands and pain in all my joints an muscles. It is really bad when you can't hardly move because of all of the pain an soreness. Has anyone experienced this? I did get kinda over my pneumonia, but still coughing.
Voted early today and ran into an old neighbor who is a retired GI doc. We didn't have a detailed conversation about HCV but he was stunned when I told him my GI doesn't vaccinate HCV patients for pneumonia unless they are cirrhotic. I have only had the Hep A & B vaccinations I never get flu shots and wonder if I should consider this. I am not even sure I would know or feel any different if I did get the flu. Any experience with this?
I have known of so many people that have taken flu shots over the years and end up getting flu like symptoms from the shot. Plus, I have yet to ever take the pneumonia shot. I not one bit afraid to take a shot. Never been scared of needles. But, I am though afraid of taking shots, that are only going to make me sick. When I am trying to prevent things like flu and pneumonia. To prevent becoming ill to begin with. Then, there is this swine flu that is all in the news, etc.
6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with pneumonia through a chest x-ray. I was put on Avelox and an inhaler. Two days later I had to go to the ER b/c the symptoms were worse. Breathing was more difficult. I was then given an antibiotic shot and a Zpac. They did a blood test-WBC was normal. I started to feel better the next week. However, as soon as the antibiotic round was over, my symptoms began to return. I run a low fever on and off all day of 99.
Got mine today + my pneumonia shot.
