Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia lung tissue

pneumonia

Avatar n tn I developed pneumonia over and a half ago. I didn't even know it was pneumonia at first. I went to the doctor because my lung hurt. It hurt so bad to breath. I thought maybe I had pulled something. I hadn't been sick at all, nor showed any other illness. When I went to the doctor, they instructed me to get an x-ray. I did, and they told me from that that I had pneumonia.
Avatar m tn Several courses of antibiotics later and X rays, the pneumonia has gone but left some marks on the lung; scarring according to the doctors. Despite being able to cycle and run ok, I am still not feeling right and still have catargh on my lungs which is fighting to stay put. The worst is just not feeling that my head is connected, almost like I continually have had a glass of wine! Anyone else felt like this after pneumonia? I am an asthmatic although controlled perfectly by ventolin etc.
Avatar f tn A Pulmonologist is a heart and lung specialist who sees people with lung scarring on a daily basis. You need to talk to someone who REALLY knows what they are talking about--good luck!
Avatar n tn If the attacking bacteria or virus is particularly aggressive, or we are run down and immuno-suppressed, the bug may multiply rapidly to invade a whole area of lung tissue. This may occur in an entire lobe of the lung or be scattered throughout both lungs in bronchopneumonia. When the lining (pleura) of the lung becomes affected, the infective process will cause the lung to adhere to the pleura to produce the pain of pleurisy.
Avatar m tn Is it possible that lung scarring can be caused by varicella pneumonia? I have had x rays, CT scan, bronchoscopy and no-one has yet been able to teel me the cause of the scarring. I have had x rays many years apart and the scar tissue still exists. I am not ill, have no symptoms yet radiologists suopect PTB, Tuberculosis or lung adenopathy.
Avatar n tn are all spots on the lungs cancer? can bronchitis leave scar tissue on the lungs?
Avatar n tn I have pain in my right lung which I believe is scar tissue from pneumonia I suffered from last year. In addition to this web-site, there is a web-site called Bronchiectasis R Us and you will learn a LOT about the disease. You should be using a flutter device or an airway clearance vest to keep your lungs clear. Good luck.
Avatar f tn About a month ago I was diagnosed with pneumonia. Never been sick like this ever in my life. At the time I was pregnant and chalked it up to having a compromised immune system. Unfortunately, due to complications, I miscarried. I did begin to get well, but immediately following I experienced pain in my left lung and in the breast tissue. I am afraid as I'm starting think that I came down with the pneumonia the way I did because something else is going on.
Avatar f tn What comes to mind with your son’s history of pneumonia in the same spot is that there may be an abnormality of that specific part of your son’s lung, either congenital or acquired. There are a number each type, not common but also not rare. The congenital are usually the result of some type of anatomical abnormality.
Avatar f tn I had an abdominal CT scan which was fine but the radiologist spotted a small liason(1cm x .8 cm) on my lung. A second scan six weeks later showed no change in the size of the liason but the radiologist could not say for sure that it was scar tissue. Today I saw a specialist who has recommended a PET scan to finally determine whether or not it is cancer. He said that at first glance it doesn't appear to be cancer and that it is too small to get an absolutely clear biopsy.
Avatar n tn My pulmonologist stated that the mass could be scar tissue from pneumonia, some sort of infection that did not show up in blood work or some type of germ cell tumor. My pulmonologist gave me 2 suggestions. I could wait until August and then have more blood work and another CT scan to see if the mass had grown or I could meet with a cardiothoracic surgeon to possibly have a biopsy performed.
Avatar n tn Hi, the opacity as it is in the apical portion of the lung, its likely to be due to tuberculosis, hence the apicolordotic view, means the ordinary X rays cannot visualize this area of the lung, so this is a special view from top. This could also be fibrous tissue from an old lesion. Also, the PPD could be positive due to an old infection.
7900821 tn?1395192104 Lung cancer can predispose one to pneumonia but in that case the pneumonia would recur in the same place in your lung each time. In addition it is quite unlikely that the radiologist would mistake lung cancer for pneumonia. That still leaves the question of why you should have recurrent pneumonia, unanswered and that is a question that will require further investigation.
Avatar f tn t have one and was pleased that she was reassured. However, a CT came back showing a 5 mm nodule in my lung. The ER doctor said it could be an old scar from pneumonia. But, I've never had it. I did quite smoking 15 years ago. I used to smoke a pack a day for about 13 years. I need another CT in 6 months. I feel stupid. When this was all initially mentioned, I blew it off assuming it's just scar tissue from the surgeries. It never registered that this is my lung.
Avatar f tn I later was diagnosed with bronchitis and after a couple of weeks and chest xray was told I had pneumonia. I had a CT Scan last year which showed a lesion. I was told it was scar tissue. During the last several months I have had 4 chest xrays and 2 more CT Scans showing new spots on my right lung. The last CT Scan showed some spots looking better and others looking worse. I still have a cough with no other symptoms except for occasional greenish phlem in small amounts.
Avatar f tn It is an inflammatory disease of the lungs, usually but not always caused by cigarette smoke that can include both emphysema and chronic bronchitis, the emphysema being a cause of destruction of lung tissue.
Avatar n tn Took Buddy to a different vet. Turns out it's not pneumonia. He has lung cancer.

Avatar m tn Aspiration pneumonia is a result of constant acid reflux into the stomach. You've probably haven't developed it yet, and you'll be probably fine, when you control your stomach infection, since this should stop your burping. Aspiration pneumonia can be only prevented, not really treated. Steroids maybe, but I guess, you don't have pneumonia already.
5601163 tn?1370701672 Could be residual changes from the pneumonia -- many times the xray takes longer to completely resolve than the symptoms, even after a course of antibiotics. Sometimes, pneumonia develops in response to mild airway blockage from a mass or tumor, so if they saw something (even small or subtle), they probably just want a CT to make sure it's not something like that.
Avatar m tn Lung nodules or small masses of tissue in the lung may be due to infections, such as histoplasmosis or tuberculosis, hamartoma, lung cysts, and vascular abnormalities as well as possible malignancy. While neoplasm is a possibility, this is not yet confirmed. Other differentials mentioned in the result are scar tissue and possibly caused by inflammation. Additional diagnostic tests may need to be done to rule out malignancy.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.

Avatar f tn s been there because that was my first catscan. I do have scar tissue in the bottom of a lung he said probably from a past pneumonia. My question: Are there other things that this spot could be besides cancer ? Or is cancer the only thing that ever shows up besides scar tissue?
Avatar n tn Pneumonia is a very serious lung infection that is caused by several different types of bacteria or viruses. Since you got well and then got sick again, you may either have a resistant strain, or have picked up a secondary infection. Yellow phlegm with a clear x-ray sounds like bronchitis. Either way, you need to see a pulmonary doctor to prescribe a different antibiotic to treat this new infection. Be sure to get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids.
Avatar n tn I had a chest x-ray in February and was called back into the doctors office for a cat scan of my lungs because the chest x-ray was abnormal due to defects in both lungs, looked like scarring tissue. I had been on antibiotics and cough medicines since Oct. 08 and as soon as I took the first round, and stopped the cough would come back, then I would be put on something else, and this has been going on since then thru March of 2009. My cardiiologists sent me to a lung specialist.
