Pneumonia lung empyema

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia lung empyema

pneumonia

Avatar n tn Complications of pneumonia include pleural effusion, empyema, abscess, bacteremia, and/or sepsis. Pneumonia may leave residual atelectasis, scarring, pneumatocele, and/or cavity. Pneumonia can exacerbate chronic conditions such as emphysema, asthma, or congestive heart failure.
Avatar f tn Also had temperature of 103. The pneumonia was in left lung and turned to Empyema pus in lung. After thoracotomy I became septic. I was in the hospital for 30 days. Four months later I am experiencing sharp pain in left shoulder blade and above left breast. Also feel like I am wearing a concrete vest on left side. Lung X-ray and CT Scan show no problem. Now taking Oxycodone but it does nothing. Being of positive mind I hope this "healing pain" goes away at some point.
Avatar m tn I also had a thoracotomy/decortication from empyema resulting from pneumonia seven years ago. My lung had collapsed. The pain is in the front of my chest and under my left sternum. I have also been told by doctors that it is scar tissue and dismissed. Most days the pain is manageable with tramadol, but high physically demanding days and driving for long periods in a car can be challenging.
Avatar n tn My Friend has had Pneumonia, Empyema was in the hospital for a week while they weren't sure he'd made it through surgery then recovered, he was home for 6 weeks following the hospital stay and is back at work now. He is still experiencing severe pain during even mild exersise or any even mildly heavy breathing. He is having problems at work due to this and is the only one working in his household due to his wife's medical issues.
Avatar n tn 9 percentile 81% physican comment small anterior pericardial effusion. incidental findings minimal nodular pleural thickening right lung base noncalcified 2mm nodule right middel lobe. can sombody explain what all this means?
Avatar m tn BACKSTORY In 2012 I was working in a bar. Part of that job involved flipping chairs and mopping. during this time I noticed a pain in my chest, (lower left lateral chest) that felt as though I pulled a muscle. This was in March. In November 2012 the pain had still not stopped. Here I should tell you that I am a heavy smoker (pack a day). Anyways towards the end of the month I woke up in the middle of the night thinking I had a heart attack.
Avatar f tn Is it possible to get a lung infection or pneumonia from breathing in cat litter? The night before last I cleaned out the litter and for the next few hours I was having some chest pain and tightness, and my throat was getting sore. I felt better by the time I went to bed and woke up without any chest pain or issues. Then I went to class and after walking around a bit I developed the issues again, which sort of came and went throughout the evening and were much better when I went to bed.
7900821 tn?1395192104 Lung cancer can predispose one to pneumonia but in that case the pneumonia would recur in the same place in your lung each time. In addition it is quite unlikely that the radiologist would mistake lung cancer for pneumonia. That still leaves the question of why you should have recurrent pneumonia, unanswered and that is a question that will require further investigation.
Avatar f tn I was rushed to hospital again and spent six days with chronic chest pain caused by pleural effusion and infection of left lung, in other words pneumonia. I had very heavy night sweats. I had some chest xrays and a CT scan revealing a few litres perhaps of fluid adjcecent to infected lung. I had 500ml drained off for analysis and hopefully the rest is diffusing into the body a now month on.
Avatar n tn Took Buddy to a different vet. Turns out it's not pneumonia. He has lung cancer.
Avatar m tn I was also made aware that I am not in clear just yet but I don’t know what that means, I did a bit of research that said that there is a mortality rate of 20% of patients with other health conditions who have had an empyema and pneumonia. Does anyone else know about this? Thanks you so much for letting me share my story, again I am super sorry if I’m posting things to the wrong place. I’ve only just joined. I look forward to reading your replies.
5601163 tn?1370701672 Could be residual changes from the pneumonia -- many times the xray takes longer to completely resolve than the symptoms, even after a course of antibiotics. Sometimes, pneumonia develops in response to mild airway blockage from a mass or tumor, so if they saw something (even small or subtle), they probably just want a CT to make sure it's not something like that.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I ave just been diagnosed with pneumonia. Will this leave me with permanent lung damage. I feel very short of breath.
Avatar n tn Pneumonia is a very serious lung infection that is caused by several different types of bacteria or viruses. Since you got well and then got sick again, you may either have a resistant strain, or have picked up a secondary infection. Yellow phlegm with a clear x-ray sounds like bronchitis. Either way, you need to see a pulmonary doctor to prescribe a different antibiotic to treat this new infection. Be sure to get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids.
Avatar m tn Several courses of antibiotics later and X rays, the pneumonia has gone but left some marks on the lung; scarring according to the doctors. Despite being able to cycle and run ok, I am still not feeling right and still have catargh on my lungs which is fighting to stay put. The worst is just not feeling that my head is connected, almost like I continually have had a glass of wine! Anyone else felt like this after pneumonia? I am an asthmatic although controlled perfectly by ventolin etc.
Avatar m tn I have all the symptoms of pneumonia. The xray came back as either pneumonia or lung cancer. Small mass found on lower left lung. Treating me for pneumonia. I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains.
Avatar f tn Have you ever had a shot to keep you from getting pneumonia? I used to have pneumonia at least once a year, but not anymore. It's been 10 years now. Also COPD can cause pleurisy, among other things. See a doctor who specializes in lung probems!
Avatar n tn Given that it is now nearly 4 months since the bout of pneumonia, you deserve further diagnostic evaluation by a lung specialist. If the signs are truly localized to one lung, the one that had the pneumonia and especially if a current x-ray fails to demonstrate complete resolution, the lung specialist will probably suggest that he/she perform bronchoscopy and/or a CT scan of the lungs to determine the reason for this lingering problem.
Avatar f tn If you still have symptoms of pneumonia, please see a lung specialist - a Pulmonologist. They will order a CT of the lungs to look closer within the soft tissues and ask them to order Lung Function Testing to see if you are breathing adequately and have good lung capacity. Most Drs can also check the amount of oxygen in your blood at any given time with a plastic clip that goes on our finger. You want to see 96% or higher.
Avatar m tn You have good reasons to be concerned about your sister and her multiple health problems. Pain associated with her pneumonia should have eased as her pneumonia resolved. Pain at this time is not normal. The recurrence of cough and pain along with the abnormal X-ray findings of “scarring” and “a hole” in her lung suggest otherwise; that is to say that hers is what we would call complicated pneumonia. You ask, if she needs to be admitted to a hospital.
Avatar f tn I'm hoping someone can help me. I had community acquired pneumonia at Christmas 15 for the first time which required 2 nights hospital stay. Prior to this if not had any real health issues, ex social smoker ie maybe 2/3 cigarettes every couple of weeks for about 8 years until about 13 months ago. 7 months later I got pneumonia again (still recovering now 3 weeks later).
Avatar n tn Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (lung collapse) can occur without known lung disease. The cause is unknown. It happens a lot more in thin males than others. Secondary pneumothorax occurs due to disease. The most common is COPD, but pneumonia can also cause it. So it is possible that the pneumonia led to the lung collapse, but it's not due to negligence unless they refused to treat him for the pneumonia when you brought him in.
Avatar m tn sounds like a bad chest or lung infection.. if you had pneumonia?? you would have high fever also and would be a very sick person.. its very dangerous.. GO to doctors either way for an antibiotic..
Avatar m tn Is it possible that lung scarring can be caused by varicella pneumonia? I have had x rays, CT scan, bronchoscopy and no-one has yet been able to teel me the cause of the scarring. I have had x rays many years apart and the scar tissue still exists. I am not ill, have no symptoms yet radiologists suopect PTB, Tuberculosis or lung adenopathy.
Avatar f tn He immediately started the conversation by saying that I might have lung cancer and we should schedule a lung biopsy right away even though he admitted he had yet to see the Xray (he based his decision on reading my chart). I wasn't even worried about lung cancer after the first doctor told me I had pneumonia! I told this doctor what the first doctor had said about pneumonia and TB and he then scoffed at the idea of having TB as TB is rare in our area.
