Avatar f tn But there was higher incidence of bleeding tendency and headaches with Aggrenox when compared to Plavix. And cardiologists usually prefer Plavix to prevent coronary artery disease, so taking Plavix will help prevent both strokes and CAD. So, Plavix is a good option to prevent occurrence of strokes. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

482754 tn?1341791494 Has anyone been prescribed the new plavix alternative called Effient? If so can you tell me about any side effects? I had an Everluminous drug eluding stent placed in the right coronary artery in May of this year and was placed on plavix and aspirin therapy. I've had no problems since the placement except for a severe allergic skin reaction which the dermatologist thinks is from the plavix.
Avatar f tn I did some goggling and found this bit in an article. It suggests that Plavix is an alternative. Not sure if that is correct or not. "If you’ve already had a heart attack or stroke or are resistant to the beneficial effects of aspirin, your doctor may suggest supplementary aspirin therapy with another clot-preventing drug, such as clopidogrel (Plavix).
Avatar n tn I am asking for a friend. Is there an alternative drug to cumadin, for example, plavix?

329994 tn?1301663248 You must get a bleeding time, clotting time done and must reduce the dose or go off Plavix and take an alternative, after consulting a cardiologist. If Plavix is not the only cause then bruises could be due to internal bleeding from torn capillaries. The other possible reasons are low platelet count, clotting disorders, fragile spider veins, deep vein thrombus, deficiency of Vitamin B12, folic acid, or Vit K, a liver disease or certain cancers (less likely in your case).
Avatar m tn The best thing you can do is take your aspirin and plavix (or alternative). You should never miss a dose and never stop it unless approved by your cardiologist. To my knowledge, there is no specific diet that aids in this. However, diet, exercise, a positive mindset, keeping your blood pressure/cholesterol under control and getting screened for diabetes can all help in preventing further progression of heart disease. You should also qualify for cardiac rehabilitation.
482517 tn?1208551378 After a DES in my Circumflex, how long is it neccessary to take plavix? Will aspirin do the trick as well? Dr says we can stop it "...if I want to take my chances..." (not a good answer) What's the longest anyone's taken (taking) it w/no probs? Lastly, if I have restenosis, or a throw a clot in my Circumflex, would it be over or is that a "secondary" area?
Avatar m tn fatique after stents by dadsgirl38, 2 minutes ago My dad had 3 stents put in in March of 09', he continues to be extremely tired and weak (flu like symptoms) he is taking plavix. He also states sometimes it feels like there is something crawling under his skin. Also pain or cramping in his legs. Is anyone had any or all of these symptoms? if so, can you tell me what is causing this or how to deal with it. We have talked to the doctor several times and he states that is normal.
Avatar f tn //www.drugs.com/sfx/plavix-side-effects.html Natural alternative: Nattokinase is a potent fibrinolytic (anti-clotting) enzyme extracted and highly purified from a traditional Japanese food called Natto. Nattokinase enhances our body’s natural ability to fight blood clots, and has an advantage over blood thinners because it has a prolonged effect without side effects.
Avatar n tn Severe joint and back pain usually is not a side effect of Plavix. Coumadin is more powerful than Plavix. The Plavix is important to take especially if you have coated stents. You may want to be checked for arthritis that may be flaring up. Coumadin is not to be used in persons with high cholesterol.

6644456 tn?1383330685 In the past number of months I’ve been experiencing occasional bouts of Atrial Fibrillation triggered by belching. Currently I am taking Plavix and Asprin and now my Doctor wants to start me on Warfarin as well. This suggestion makes me very uncomfortable. I feel that a pacemaker would be a healthier alternative.

1210142 tn?1266077031 After my bare metal stents were clogged and I almost got another heart attack, a DES was placed inside those two. Since then I have been having chest pains. I am currently on Plavix, Aspirin, Simvastatin, Lisinopril and Carvedilol/Coreg/. Stopped Lisinopril for a little bit and felt much better- unfortunately my blood pressure went a little up. Then my PCP substitute it for Losartan- have been taking this drug/25 mg/ for a week and feel extremely dizzy and nauseated.
Avatar f tn Taking Plavix indicates you have drug eluding stents. The a drug-eluting stents (DES) basically have a special drug that delivers the agent right at the site of the injury to the artery and prevents much of the scar tissue from recurring. Compared to the alternative bare metal stent and it is known that the likelihood of the arteries re-narrowing after drug-eluting stents are much less than after bare metal stents.
Avatar n tn Thank You so much. I cut the Gabapentin to a lower dose and I think it was from another prescription Plavix and they changed it to Aggrenox I am doing fine now. Age is a bummer. Avatar f tn Is his doctor aware of the history of a bleeding ulcer that your post mentions? Has the ulcer completely healed? I certainly would make sure the doctor is aware of this. I know in my case, when taking the Plavix I couldn't drink. I love to drink wine and while on the Plavix one glass would go straight to my head. I felt drunk. And, yes,the bruising is terrible. I walk around with purple marks on my arms all the time.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Plavix 75 MG daily. A recent plavix test showed it was not helping. Now my PA has me on 150 MG Plavix. I really bleed when scratched now. Should I take the Plavix test again to see if the increased dossage is working? I am also taking 325 mg asprin.
Avatar m tn Did your doctor determine that you risk was so high that he wanted you on Plavix long term, these are the only circumstances that using Plavix long term would be.
Avatar f tn Put on Coreg, Plavix and Lispinopril at discharge. After several days with shortness of breath cardiologist took me off Coreg. I have now been off for 6 days and I still have SOB except when sleeping. What else could be going on?? The office visit when he took me off Coreg also had a clean EKG, good BP all arteries pumping properly, good blood oxygen level. The SOB doesn't increase remarkably during low level exercise. That is all I have done so far. Think I am a little affraid.
