Percocet kidney damage

Common Questions and Answers about Percocet kidney damage

percocet

She has a standing script for percocet due to a neck injury. I have recently found out that she is now snorting it. I understand addiction as I come from a very addictive family, and I guess maybe she is not getting the high or "relief" that she once was from taking them orally............... " she says that yes, she has to preserve what she has and snorting them makes them last longer". believe me I am no dummy, been down that road before with people.
Hello, Long story short, I have a uti, kidney stones and kidney infection. I was ddiagnosed with uti first and was prescribed 5/325 vicodin. Went to the emergency room the next day because Pain was worse. I took 2 percocet around 3 this afternoon then about 7 I took 2 vicodin. It's now 2 a.m. and I've had to take one more percocet about a hour ago. Of course I'm really drowsy but I also have the shakes in my arms and hands. I'm scared to fall asleep. Do you think I've taken too much?
Mental fatigue, liver damage from Tylenol, kidney trouble as you mentioned, endorphin production is halted etc.. All of these can happen.
Is it possible that I may have some liver or kidney damage after being on this for 2 years? I started with one 5mg tablet 3 times/day and when my leg was better, then I was increasing and taking once a day, and as I said I am now on 2 10mg pills in the morning. I don't want to increase. I want to stop NOW! But is it possible that I have done some liver / kidney damage?
I'm still feeling pain in my kidney area.... trying hot baths, ice packs, heating pads, nothing is helping. It would be so easy to make this all go away.......... but I won't go there, I won't make that call..... my sanity is my music right now.... amazing how music can get you through any bad situation.... I'm looking forward to tomorrow though, looking forward to being another day clean, happier, healthier!! Thanks to all for all your support... everyone here is awesome!!
I have had 5 surgeries the last two within 6 months. My doctors tell me I have nerve damage from all the surgery. I have constant severe pain in the lower right hand side of . I have been taking 1 percocet pretty much everyday in the afternoon (I can't take it during the day because I work) for almost 3 months. I go to a pain clinc where they put me on Neurontin which makes me too tired to work and tried Bio feedback which didn't work for me.
If a stone is too large to exist naturally it can become stuck in a ureter and block the flow of urine from the kidney. If this should happen for too long it can damage your kidney or cause kidney failure. Not something you want to happen which is why you need to see a Urologist very soon. As the above text states, a change in diet and the amount of water a person drink can lessen the future chances of recurring stones.
is it possible that I have done some damage to my kidney/liver? PLEASE don't scare me! I have only been on this high dose for 30 days. I am so scared. Should I get blood tests done? For some reason, the last few days, I have had lower back pain, both sides. I take tylenol and it stops the pain. Is it possible that my organs are shutting down? PLEASE dont scare me! I am scared to read the answer to this one...
I guess to be honest with you all, I don't really want to quit, I just want to lower the amount that I'm taking. Unless it can cause permanent damage to my body in some way. I love the euphoric feeling that it gives me and I am more social, more energetic and generally just happier with life. I am still able to get this feeling and get buzzed off of about 4-6 pills a day but my will power is pathetic and I have just been taking more pills since I know I can.
I can't understand the poppy seed question as pain didn't seem to be an issue. When I say physical damage, I mean no kidney failure, liver failure, etc. Does the previous poster take testosterone? A few of the symptoms you just mentioned sound directly related to it. Ingrown hairs is another symptom.
Thankfully there isn't tylenol in the oxycontin, but the tylenol with percs is surely compromising these organs' well being. My very good friend, a percocet abuser, just got off a dialysis machine 2 days ago, for failed liver and kidney function. He is an otherwise healthy 32 year old man. Then there are changes that occur to the brain, that in many cases can be permanent. Some addiction specialists draw the analogy of an addicts brain to a person that has had a stroke.
I have a collapsed disc, arthiritis through my spine to where surgery is not an option, and nerve damage (due to a car wreck) One doctor gave me percocet...thats not good for the liver...but percodan is asprin based...what I am wondering ,would that be a better pain reliever? Some days are so long because of the pain,I just want to feel as close to normal as I can. Thanks if anyone can help ..
Percocet has an active ingredient of aspirin in it instead of acetaminophen. BUT, too much aspirin can cause kidney (renal) failure/damage. So, not matter what our 'vice' somewhere, somehow, we are doing damage to something.
Any moms have experience with kidney stones while pregnant. Were you induced early or allowed to go as normal??
Prior to this, I have been taking 80mg of percocet, once a day, for about 3 yrs. I am weening myself off of the oxycontin and going back to percocet, ultimately to get back to 80 mg once a day and then hopefully ween off of it. Here are my questions: Is it possible to completely ween myself off of this?
and About the brain damage you would have to research that but, any kind of an overdose could def cause brain damage (since opiates affect the respitory system an OD can cut the oxgyen from reaching the brain..). All you can do is encourage him to get treatment and do the same for yourself. How are you doing? I know the mental part of it is soooo hard thats what always gets meee too but the more you realize you "can live without pills" the stronger you will get!!
I have been on Percocet for 4 months for a herniated disk. I was taking half a day, then one a day, then up to 6 a day. Then I started having awful side effects. My back pain got worse, my tongue was swelling some, and had stomach pain too. Then I had my lumbar injection and the pain got worse. I am scared this is an allergic reaction. I had my lumbar steroid injection, and the pain got worse, so my Dr prescribed Tylenol 4.
Proposed Tylenol restrictions worry patients FDA is considering reduced maximum dose, ban on Vicodin and Percocet WASHINGTON - Proposed limits on Tylenol, a painkiller as common as pain itself, have left many consumers fearful, confused and wondering where to turn for relief. The potential government crackdown on acetaminophen, Tylenol's main ingredient, would affect everyone from occasional pill poppers to chronic pain sufferers who rely on daily doses to make their lives more bearable.
I am a 26 year old female and I have been dealing with kidney stones for the past 9 years. I pass atleast 2 stones every month. Recently, I had SEVERE pain in my left flank and went to the ER. Had a CT scan done and it showed I had several stones in both kidneys. I was given morphine at the hospital and vicodin to take home.
It always haunted me, so I eventually quit Percocet and switched to Oxycontin.. I was so clever.. On Oxycontin, I spiraled out of control, which led me to being clean and here.. I am sure someone will tell me I got part of this wrong. I will submit that I am not an expert and invite you to challenge this or speak to a doctor about it. If your abusing Tylenol, I hope you read this ..
yes. Any she could suffer kidney failure as well. Someone I know just had kidney failure due to cocaine abuse. Drugs can make you go skitz. I know many people that I used to do drugs with when i was a teenager all messed up still and skitz because of the drugs. Meth is the worst.
Heart palpatations and irregular heart beats are a serious side effect of the medication. Since your friend has been taking percocet for years, he/she is addicted to the medication. When the medication starts to wear off, he/she is experiencing a withdrawal which can cause heart palpatations and irregular heart beats due to anxiety. Here's a list of side effects and severity: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-7277-Percocet+Oral.aspx?
I just had my bloodwork done and don't know how I am going to live w/o pain killers as I have nerve damage, re Multiple Sclerosis. I take 6 /7 or 8 tabs a day I am very careful What are the markers in a blood test that tell you your liver is hurt? My "BUN" ratio went from 11 ( 10 is the bottom of normal) six months ago to 6..7 this past week > I read that is lever damage.
I'm glad Tuck mentioned that Acetaminophen can damage the Kidneys and I want to add that it can also damage the Liver so be careful...you only have one liver and the body needs it.
For short periods these are great but long term use not only causes liver damage but NSAIDs used long term(over 2 wks) can cause kidney damage. If you have pain and take narcotics as perscribed or less, the likelyhood of becoming dependent are between zero and nothing.A Dr. once told me that we are only trying to lessen my pain not eliminate-make it bearable.Ice & the bathtub are still some of my best friends but when narcotics are needed I take them and I've been doing this for over 2 yrs.
13 years ago i was in the Hospital for 1 month with RH FEVER I was missed Dx by my Dr and ended up with Kidney Failure, Pericarditis, damaged Aorta. Anyhow is was not fun. After that I had to live on Predisone because they could not get me off of them also for 7 years every month I had to have a shot of 24 million units of Pen VK. It was about 2 months after leaving the hospital my pain started and just could not lift a gallon of milk without dropping it.
I recently was able to stop my addiction to painkillers, mostly percocet or vicodin. I am now wondering what kind of damage I've done to my liver, kidneys and stomach. I had my gall bladder removed 4 years ago, and have had many stomach problems since, all the while I was still taking painpills. I also had a kidney infection since then. If anybody could let me know what it takes to cause serious damage to these important organs or what to do to find out, I would greatly appreciate it.
As long as you're not known as a drug seeker, your doc should have no problem changing percocet to oxycontin. Especially since it will reduce any added liver or kidney problems. I wish I had more to contribute but hopefully that will help a tiny bit. Good luck with everything.
I was told there wasn't anything they could do for this kidney until after the baby was delivered and since my left kidney was working properly that's with pain medication we could get to a safe point of delivery. I am not 35 weeks pregnant and have been taking percocet since July when I left the hospital they are 2 every four hours and until about two weeks ago I was lasting 2 every 6-7 a total of 8 pills a day sometimes less depending on the pain.
