Pegasys injection

Common Questions and Answers about Pegasys injection

pegasys

The nurse gave me the Pegasys injection intramuscular in my arm instead of subcutaneous? Will that have any effect on the course of treatment? Does it have the same efficacy?will I still benefit from the injection in the same intended way?
I wouldn't use it and would call Roche directly first thing in the morning. When is your next injection? The package insert has the storage and warning instructions - the interferon should be between a certain temperature range, neither too warm or too cold. When my power went out, Roche immediately offered to replace a month's worth of meds, even though the syringe liquids weren't even yellow or cloudy. My nurse agreed and said she would have insisted if Roche had waffled.
Does it matter the amount of your injection dose on how hard you will be hit with sx. Is anyone here taking doses of 180 mcg or more and had no sx or minimum sx. I will start my first tx this coming Sunday. Trying very much to prepare myself nerve wise. I've had the prescription since 7/28 and have decided to start Sunday 8/6.
No restrictions other than what is there for anyone with HepB: no alcohol, avoid oily if it makes you feel bad.
My nurse said, I could take the injection, the day before normal injection time and it would be fine. I think you would be OK.
I went to the RN today and I did my first pegasys injection. I am wondering if I may have hit a vein because it bleed when I pulled the needle out. When I had the needle in me, I did not pull back on the syringe to check for any blood – the nurse agreed that I did not have to, so I don’t know if blood from a vein would have actually shown. Is it a problem if I did hit a vein?? I did the shot about 3 hours ago, and so far no reaction – I hope that does not mean that I did not inject properly.
I received my first supply of medications (Pegasys and Ribavirin Ribasphere) by Fed Express mail. My questions are based on the Pegasys fact sheet which states: 1)"Take Pegasys once a week on the same day each week at approximately the same time". 2) "Pegasys must be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 36 degrees F to 46 degrees F. Keeping Pegasys at temperatures outside the recommended range can destroy the medicine".
Do your best to follow the instructions, and count to 10 slowly after injection. Then pull that sucker out straight. I was always worrying about bad batches and looked at lot #'s too. Someone from the pegasys hotline told me that they follow very strict standards.
Perhaps your doctor was referring to the "flu-like symptoms" side effect from the interferon injection. Typically that is worst with the first couple of shots, and perhaps you will be lucky and avoid that particular side effect. However, the cumulative effects of months of ribavarin can catch up with you, and you may experience hemolytic anemia from the riba.

I am going to Amsterdam and will need to do an injection on the flight over (just happens to fall on my injection day) and I'll need to take another one while I am there.
How about Telaprevir or Boceprevir? Regarding the immediate side effects of the Pegasys injection itself, some people have none, some feel like they've been run over by a truck, and many experience something in between. It's a good idea to take a Tylenol before the injection, and to take the injection just before bed, so you can sleep through some of the effects. The next day you might feel fine, or you might have a headache and body aches like you are coming down with the flu.
In regard to injection, if u pull back and see blood does it mean you hit a.capillary,or vein or what? Last week the nurse who gave me the shot did.not pull back and check for blood. If there is blood can u withdraw needle and inject in different spot in same area?
what should i do if pegasys injection remains outside the fridge for 18 hrs?should i use it or not?
While it is best to avoid missing doses, being 4 days late on one dose of Pegasys hopefully won't alter your treatment outcome. As far as I know there are no studies on being late with Pegasys doses. I have linked you to a couple of sites that, while not giving you any stats on missing doses in relationship to SVR, do give you some information about Pegalated Interferon and also on getting back onto schedule if you have missed a dose.
I've been told that the Peg is meant to be absorbed slower thus, why the subcutaneous injection is recommended...If it's accidentally injected into a blood vessel, no worries...it may irritate the vessel a bit, but other than that you shouldn't have any adverse effects...Hope this helps!
It is by injection. PEGASYS is the first and only pegylated interferon approved by the FDA for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1.25 million people in the United States have chronic hepatitis B. Over time, an untreated hepatitis B infection can lead to liver scarring (cirrhosis), loss of function, liver cancer, or even death. However, these effects take time, and many people are now turning to treatments that can help.
//www.pegasys.com/about-pegasys/treatment-for-hepatitis-b.aspx ..... PEGASYS is a medication that is taken once a week for 48 weeks and then not again. Lamivudine is a medication that is taken long-term .... Is it TRUE? TIA B.R.
Second, the Pegasys is BIG and slowly absorbed from the injection site and carried to the liver where it acts on liver cells. Its level in the blood rises and stays high for 4-7 days. On the other hand, PegIntron is a smaller more fragile molecule and is fairly rapidly metabolized and excreted. Its level in the blood rises during the first 2-3 days after injection and quickly falls so that by day 5 - day 7 you may have NO drug in yr body.
There were a few things that we found to be very helpful, and which reduced the redness at the site post-injection. One, make sure you've warmed up the Pegasys between your hands before, you don't want to inject cold interferon. Also, massaging the area for a few minutes post-injection was very helpful. Once we started doing these two things, the redness went away for the most part. There were times that we could still see some redness, but it was MUCH better. Hope this is helpful.
